which is used for some on line functions but not as I understand for logging in.

I have used the business one and it is very quick and easy to use. Cannot really understand why some on here are getting all worked up.

It is going to be used EVERY TIME you log in and for any payments.

I've got a letter last week saying there'll be a month grace period from when its received and then either use the secure key or you wont get in the account.

I'd have been happier if it was a keyring type that like the old business ones instead of some random bit of technology junk to carry around.

lol, i already have to cart two of these damn things around for company accounts access, and now one for myself! (Not to mention my world of warcraft authenticator).

My laptop bag is getting full :(
Debt free, moved, got new stuff for the new flat - got everything I wanted and need - now just saving.

I'd rather have a small device on my keyring that means it takes a few more seconds to log on than run a higher risk of having my account emptied by criminals tbh.

I'll definitely be standing up against this. Like a previous poster said, how often do you just access your online banking from home? I think 90% of my access is when I am abroad/at work/someone else's house. No chance I'm going to be carrying a little calculator around with me.

They'll give me a month's grace? Well that should just be enough time for me to find a new bank.....

Something I also forgot to mention... I use Yodlee which is a service that connects to my banks and pulls in all the transactions into one place so I can have an overview of all my different bank accounts in one place. This is something that is sooo lacking in the industry, the facility to allow 3rd parties to access your information like Finance Software. Well Yodlee does it, but HSBC have sent a reply to a query I had stating this will stop because they wont have the key.

So HSBC are definitely moving backwards. I've actually been waiting for technology to advance so I CAN use 3rd party software but looks that wont happen with HSBC.

I've stopped using HSBC. I'll keep the account open just in case of payments that go in without me knowing, but have had to order paper billing as I wont be able to access it via online.

Shouldn't we be encouraging banks to increase the security to our money?

Yes, but using a more convenient approach. Convenience does not have to mean lack of security if they can be bothered to research a more secure way, perhaps adding another password like Lloyds.

Another idea is why have this device as a physical device? Have it online somewhere else, password protected. Have it as a smartphone App for gods sake! HSBC are taking a step backward in having a physical device.

Uhh, if it's online, it's going to be as easy to crack as the bank's site itself... a physical device at least means that someone has to kidnap you or steal your device as well as get into your computer. A smartphone app means that everyone needs to use the same phone and if you lose your phone you lose your banking too.

Don't like it either, but gonna have to stick with them as I bank with HSBC in other countries. If you don't like it then leave.

It eradicates the problem of having your account emptied especially after being infected with a keylogger, a perfectly sensible step forward for any bank to do (and they probably all will soon).Hardly a big burden to carry one around if you can't plan to do your banking at home.

A second password adds nothing to security if you have a keylogger
