:(
You'e entilted to ignore it - the original creditor has told you that nothing is owing.
But frankly you'd be doing us all a favour if you put this to MKDP in writing, requiring their final response within 8 weeks as you intend to refer the matter to Trading Standards, OFT and FOS.
This bunch ought to be fined at the least, and preferably have their licence revoked.0 -
My elderly father, who has never shopped in his life, let alone had a catalogue account, has just received an identically worded letter. I intend to send the prove it letter to MKRR soonest on his behalf
Has anyone had a positive result after sending the prove it letter?0 -
I've now got a letter from MKRR saying I still owe the outstanding balance and i have been ignoring it. They are prepared to allow me to make small monthly payments. As this is £556.10 and I have no idea what the debt is? Whats my course of action please? They are obviously continuing to hassle me and I've no idea where it comes from? I'm off on hol Sun and i dont want this over my head when i come back.0

MummyCat....send them a proveit letter from this thread. Fermi has already outlined the course of action. Do not take their calls, do not respond to them verbally, send the letter. You dont owe the money and chances are, it's statute barred even if you did. Ignore them and send the letter.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

The kay's debt was sold to debt collection agency in 1997 and statue barred in 2003 so i told Capqest i won't be paying a statue barred debt.
They said we will get in touch with shop direct and let you know but i told them i already phoned them so i know its statue barred

It's annoying, but you must realise that there's nothing this bunch of sharks can actually do to you apart from churning out their standard letters.
At least you are being informed of the law, your rights and the correct procedures (that they should be following). It must be much worse for those who have not discovered sites like this, or who just have no access to proper support.
For everyone's sake, I would encourage you to pursue this though to a formal complaint.
You should write again along the lines of 'I have stated that I have no knowledge of the alleged debt, you have failed to prove your position. I now require, in writing, your final response within 8 weeks, which I may refer to the Financial Ombudsman Service, Trading Standards and the OFT.'
Magpiecottage has a nicely worded letter here:

GREAT NEWS!!!
I have today received a letter from MKDP accepting that the debt I've discussed on here does not exist and that they apologise for all inconvenience they have caused with their communications AND they've confirmed no entry has been made to my credit file,
Thank you again for all your wonderful advice about this matter. I shall keep this letter forever!
Its a great weight off my mind!0 -

Hello everyone
Just wondering if anyone can offer some advice. I received a letter today from Very.co.uk care of Shop Direct Finance. The letter is asking me to telephone an investigations manager. I am so worried as I do not have a clue what it is about. I bought one item from the Very website about three years ago and paid for it with my debit card. I will be ringing them first thing on Monday but just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience?0
