Someone i know has let their 14 year old son dye their hair black from his natural colour of fair?

My first thought was i thought 14 was a bit young he is just 14?

maybe it isnt too young what do people think?

Would you let your 14 year old dye their hair?

No I wouldn't but a lady at school dyed her 4 year olds blond hair to black because she was doing hers and he asked her to!!!! That is a bit

thankfully the high schools mine are at do not allow dyed hair even to natural colours so I just go with that .. though none of mine have ever wanted to which I am quite pleased about.. though I can see DD2 with bright pink or purple hair in a few years!

I dyed my hait 13-14, well my mum did anyway. This was only because I'd had nits for years and nothing worked so mum had a spare bottle of blonde (my natural colour) so we tried it. I never got nits again ;)

I do wish now though that i'd never done it as I wish i knew what my real colour was at this age :)

I would say it depends on the dye. When I was 14 I was allowed to use a mousse that intensified the natural red highlights in my hair. My mum also let me use a few semi permanents, again red in colour, but as my hair is naturally darkest brown she must have known full well it wasn't going to make a jot of difference to my hair, maybe a tint if I was lucky!

I think on my 14th or 15th birthday I was allowed to go to the hairdresser to get my hair dyed, but again I only wanted it red which is still a natural colour. My hair went a delightful shade of orangey-brown and I had to grow it out.

I would say this is acceptable because the only time permanent dye was used was at the hairdressers, and it was a natural colour that wasn't going to make much difference. Dying blonde hair black is pretty extreme- I wasn't allowed to do that until I was in college! Black hair dye is the most severe and the only colour that made my head itch after applying. It's also unlikely to come out as even a semi permanent is going to stain blonde hair.

My ds first asked me about 9 if he coudl have highlights - I found this hilarious but rather than cause it to become a big deal I said yeah, of course. Once we got to the hairdressers he changed his mind and hasn't asked since ;-)

Now if he asked (just turned 13) I woudln't have a problem - I started henna-ing my hairs at around that age - and am now wondering if nearly 40 is too old to go back to pillar box red and get a tattoo!!

I started dying my hair at that age, I always went for purple - only used those ones that last 6 weeks though. I don't really see a problem with it, who really cares what colour a few dead cells are, it's not like he's getting a tattoo or piercing that will be there forever. Hair grows, even permanent dies are gone eventually.

at 14, yes I would (I don't think I was that much older when I first started dying my hair - remember Shaders and Toners???). Semi permanent only though, because it really doesn't look good when the re-growth starts showing ;).

    im with them!

I was about 14, but only used the mouse and semi perm colours, as we were not allowed ot die our hair at school, so school holidays only for me.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.
