My 15 yo daughter died her beautiful golden blonde hair black. Its never gone back to its original colour and is now a natural mucky light brown. I was devastated but theres no telling them lol She regrets it now......shes 18 and wishes she never dyed it!0

Thankfully not come up against this yet! My DD is almost 14 and she;s never asked, saying that both my daughters (and myself!) have been blessed with gorgeous thick, hair with natural highlights that it's never been something that's thought about. I've never dyed my hair, and until I go grey won't! It's not that 14 is too young, I'd just be dissapointed if the girls asked, as they'll never get better from a bottle!0

I started to dye my hair at 13- but this was due to grey hair's. I would say no to permanent dye straight away as fair to black is abit extreme. Try him with a semi-permanent dye first, that way if in two weeks he changes his mind (as teenagers sometimes do) its easier to sort. I would also check school rules- I know mine changed theirs after it became cool to copy David Beckham
If he wants it permanently then do his eyebrows too, or he may end up looking like he has none!Saving for the future 1 penny at a time0 -
My daughter has had her hair a variety of colours since she was 13.... To me its just an expression of personality and it can be redyed/grown out. In the bigger scheme of things its a small thing and the photos to look back on are brilliant!!!
I have to say though the turquoise at xmas went horribly wrong so she had green hair!!!!! Paying over a hundred quid to have it corrected didnt impress but thats a one off (and I footed the bill since shes a poor uni student). I much prefer hair dye to say tatoos etc.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -
My son is 12 and has his highlighted. I do it at home with one of those caps, and he has a sort of wide stripe of blonde tips across the top of his head, then it tapers into a point down the back. He spikes the top up with gel.
I think it looks ridiculous but he loves it!Here I go again on my own....0 -
I think it depends on whether the school has a policy against it, but I would let a 14-year-old dye their hair. It's a way that they can express their personality, and maybe even be a bit rebellious in a relatively safe manner.0

I think young kids dyeing hair is ridiculous, My son Now 27 dyed the front of his hair blonde, when about 14, after we had said no, he was grounded for that, and now admits it was stupid and has never dyed his hair since, my Daughter nearly 15 has been wanting to dye her hair for years, but I told her do what you want once you are 18,but not before, My Son when he was younger also wanted a tatoo, we said once you are 18 and pay for it yourself, do what you want, I am glad to say he has never had a tatoo, I have been dyeing my own hair for about 10 years, only to my natural colour, otherwise i would be grey, Some of my daughters friends dye there hair different colours each week, and there hair is so out of condition and looks a sight.0

My 13 year old daughter recently asked to dye her hair, all she's done is put a mahogany shade over her brown hair, I felt a little eek about it but she wanted to be able to do the things other girls at her school did. The colour looks lovely and it's certainly made her more confident.
I have more issues with the horrible fake nails she and her friends insist are the cool thing, she has perfectly nice nails under them.0 -
am now wondering if nearly 40 is too old to go back to pillar box red and get a tattoo!!
I started dying my hair at 13, or rather I was a model for the apprentice hairdresser at the local salon. Both my sister and I had every colour of the rainbow, her form tutor thought it was amusing and pinned a card of colour swatches inside the lid of her desk. The only time I've been grey, and ever will be if I can help it, I was 15, which was almost 50 years ago! These days I range from fair with hilights, to a little warmer light auburn depending on the season
. My daughter and granddaughter dyed their hair at 14, my son was a late starter and went blonde at 16.
Oh, and I got my first, and only ( so far
) tattoo at 60

I wont let her mess with her nails, I was at Uni with a lovely girl who was in the nail salon every week. I saw her once without her 'falsies' and her natural nails underneath were ruined, pitted discoloured flaky beds.
Fortunately DD has lovely nails and pictures on google of the damage fakes can do have put her off
