age to dye hair?

Calm down, it's HAIR! What can happen to them?? :rotfl:0

Now if he asked (just turned 13) I woudln't have a problem - I started henna-ing my hairs at around that age - and am now wondering if nearly 40 is too old to go back to pillar box red and get a tattoo!!
Absolutely not! If anything you're more likely to choose your tattoo wisely. I had my first tattoo done this year and I love it, in fact it's so nice the girl that did it has it up her website which is more than can be said for the 20-year-old's frog tattoo she was doing next
OP, I must be a really bad mum because I let my son dye his hair black when he was 11. As everyone has said, it grows out and I'd far rather he was a goth/a bit alternative than a chav! (Of course, as we fit that slightly goth/alternative mould too he'll probably rebel soon and come home with a short back and sides!)Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
If it doesn't break school rules I don't see any problem with it.
Kids like to dye their hair - it may be that he's in with a goth/emo crowd and wants the black to go with that. Be glad if he is - I've never met a nasty goth, they are the sweetest little teenage sub-group around. (and yes, I also know very grown up goths, some of my friends are, even though I'm not). Better that than a lot of teenage groups.
I always let my son do whatever he wanted with his hair from a young age - it's his, it's part of his personality/identity, and it's temporary and has no permanent effect or damage. It grows back.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
I do agree with others - I'd far rather my DD went goth/emo goth than chav, any day

My daughter (15 last week) has the most gorgeous auburn hair and everywhere we go people always comment on it BUT she wants to dye it brown. She has been asking for months if she can and we've said no. A lot of her friends have been doing it for the past 12 months or so (one of them has gone purple).
After reading this thread it has reminded me that at her age I was using the Shaders and Toners too. Are these wash in wash out ones still available? Apart from these I have never dyed my hair so wouldn't know
.
I think next time she asks I might shock her and actually say yes

yes, you still get Shaders and Toners - I think they are called Wella Viva Shaders & Toners now.0

Isn't that just as bad as the people who are against black hair/goth/emo though?
I bet there are some nice chav teens.
I'd rather mine wasn't chav, from a moneysaving point of view. I can't afford brand named clothes, expensive trainers and frequent haircuts to get those shapes and tram lines or whatever is currently in fashion.
At the moment his black trainers are from Amazon, black jeans from anywhere and a band t-shirt for around £12
He spent a lot of his Dream Theater hoodie though, mostly on postage from the states.
He's quite cheap really. My friend's daughter is emo and spends a lot on make-up and hair dye, she also has a thing for shoes :eek:52% tight0 -
i had mine streaked at 14...0

I've dyed my hair since aged 11, started with Henna and now I'm not sure as to my natural colour. I don't see the problem, its just experimentation with identity ^^Money money money.

tbh I think it's a case of picking your battles
I might prefer that they don't dye their hair, but the sensible part of me realises that it is not the right thing to dig my heels in with and come over all draconian
There are plenty of worse things for a teenager to do!0
