33 for me, which was best imo as i got most of my reckless spending on cards and loans done when i was younger so no need now to splash the cash on stuff i dont really need (well i still do but not on credit cards as much lol)
  • I was 35 (think that might be the oldest person on this thread, other than one poster's OH!) Mix of thinking prices would come down if I waited long enough (wrong) and wanting to be flexible in location/not knowing what I wanted to do with my life (which actually did work well for me a couple of years ago when my company got bought and the office moved).

So all in all no regrets, and enjoying being an elderly FTB now :D
  • 23, 5 paper rounds, washing up job, bar job, retail work, it all went into my 'house' fund! I decided at 13-14 that I wanted a house as soon as possible and I saved from then on! At 16 I was earning well over £1,000 a month and at that age what on earth do you spend it on? I was saving almost all of it every month and between the period between my 16th & 17th birthday I saved up around £16,000 That has paid dividends now when I have I only needed a 60% mortgage on my first house.

I was 40, single income, I always seemed to be £5k off the cheapest place... when £5k was a lot of money and lender multiples were tight. Had one stroke of luck when I was earning some big bucks in a job, so bought while I still could. Job ended as company was taken over and department closed, so after 2 years I couldn't afford to run it ... so I sat in it almost with the lights off for 5 years until I decided it needed selling or I'd be stuck sitting there for another 8 years when prices went down. Back then though (4 years ago) there wasn't all the 'help' available now, it was sink or swim for mortgage owners.

Oh, I should say, mine was £90k, I put £25k down then spent another £15k over the next 2 years getting the basics done (it had no heating and most of the windows were falling out and a lot of wall plaster was coming off in chunks.... didn't look that bad when I'd viewed it)
