I was 21 & fiance was 22 when we reserved our plot (new small 3 bed semi yet to be built)
Our wedding was arranged for 12 months later.
House wasn't finished in time (small building company) and we had to live with my new husband's parents for about a month.
We finally moved in a week before Christmas. It was snowing heavily, but there was no-way I wasn't going to be in our home for Christmas.
It was a long time ago.
Still got the photos of the house at varying stages of build.
I've often thought of sending them to whoever is in that house now.this thread would make more sense if the contributors said at what point they are now and what year they started their path !--my grandad paid 5 quid for a small farm-long long ago---he left about 200k in 1976 which was a lot then!--a bungalow cost 20k then-here
OK....
First house bought in 1966 for £3120.00 putting down a 10% deposit as you had to back then.
Now live in a detached house 4 bedrooms -2 full size bathrooms - lounge - dining room - large breakfast kitchen - utility room - cloakroom.
Oh, and an 18ft circular/ 4ft 6inch deep - part in ground/part above ground pool in the garden, with a Fabrico Sun Dome cover.
Pool mainly bought for the grandchildren to swim in.
Value around £450K, I think - house that is - not the pool. Mortgage paid off long ago.
Never looked on houses as an investment - it's just my home.0 -
I was 25. 2 bed terrace in 2006 in a horrid area with a 115% mortgage-would never ever have got rid of it if it weren't for parents giving us oney to pay off a prage part of the mortgage so we could sell to investors0

In 1998, me and OH were both 26 and we paid £49,500 for a 3 bed semi. We had a £47k mortgage and I can still remember bricking it about how much the mortgage and bills cost each month!
Fast forward 13 years through 5 house moves, 3 kids and now mortgage free. I honestly wouldn't even want to try and buy a house these days."Put the kettle on Turkish, lets have a nice cup of tea.....no sugars for me.....I'm sweet enough"0 -
Bought just over a year ago, on my own, at the age of 26. Very proud of my little two bed flat & the fact I did it myself (BOMAD not an option for me) though it took me 4 years to save the 10% deposit!Emergency savings: 4600
0% Credit card: 1965.000 -

ok well it was 2005 I bought sold 2010 and when i say modernised i mean central heating, rewire, windows, full replaster etc etc. We traded up to a 3 bed semi as I don't want a mortgage of any more than 2x joint wage while kids are young. Realistically we probably have 1 more house move i us for space reasons as the kids growMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000
