Hot pot, or is that too close to shepherds pie?

Mix them up with some cooked chopped veggies, season, and shape into grillsteaks (I think someone has already mentioned rissoles) I would definitely second that idea. DH loves Kofte and there's always the thought of doing some keema-style curry kebabs by making a sausage of the meat and sticking a skewer into it. Failing that, homemade lamb and mint burgers always go down well.

I have made these a few times now, once for the bbq and a couple of times on pitta bread with salad.

    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/gyros-burgers/Detail.aspx

The ones for the barbie were shaped like normal burgers and we had them on rolls with garlic mayo.

The ones in pitta were shaped like sheik kebabs (sausage shapes) like you get in a takeaway with salad and garlic mayo etc.

    Yum.

    Very tasty.

I vote for Kofta (Greek kebabs) here is a recipe from the BBC (http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2187/lamb-koftas)- serve it with couscous and salad or garlic bread and salad. My OH is very much the same - he will pick over any meal given to him until he finds the meat and won't eat it until he does! However anything with a skewer or that can be cooked on a barbie seems to break the rules. I think it is a caveman thing. Combine this with an autistic son who will only eat about three or four foods due to sensory issues (no meat except sausages) and mealtimes around here are fun. Ug!

    Hi puddy,

As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to the main thread on lamb mince to keep the ideas together.

    Hi all,

You can only buy 500g packs of minced lamb in the supermarkets near me, & that's too much to use in one go.

I'd like to use half a pack one day & the other half another day, so my question is: what's the best way of storing the other half? Should I leave it in its original packing & then wrap it in a food bag & put it in the fridge? How long will it last? I don't have a freezer, unfortunately.

    Thank you :)

I unwrap mine straight away and normally put it in a bag and freeze it but, if its going in the fridge then I use old chinese takeaway cartons to store it in. I wouldnt open it though until you need it. You can smell when it is starting to go off.

How about making the doner kebab from the Takeaway secret and then take that to work with you cold? It's like spicy meatloaf

I'd put it in a bowl & cover it with tin foil.

    Hi,

Thanks. It's funny you should mention the Takeaway Secret as I'm sat here reading it :D

The lamb doner was delicious the last time I made it with the red sauce, but I fancy having lamb burgers one night & lamb kofta kebabs in pitta bread another night. Mmmm
