  • Hi. I just used the benefits calculator to see what i am entitled to ( i have just become unemployed and an awaiting news on my recent claim for housing benefit and jobseekers) . the calculator says that i shall receive an amount of housing benefit that i think seems too high. I did enter that i share my flat with one other (not partner - non dependant) so am only claiming for half the rent and it says my rental status is shared but the amount of local housing authority allowance is entered as the whole amount. it is greyed out and i cannot halve it. Has the calculator taken this into consideration and is it basing the amount i get on my half of the rent only? I'm very confused.

Thanks for any help - David
  • In the how often are you paid section, there is no option for every two weeks.
Also I am not sure if I have put the correct information in about my disabled daughter who lives at home with us. I assume she is a non dependant relative - and the reason I cannot look for work nor claim the benefit for doing so, as the checker assume I am.

I discovered two credit cards subjected to theft over a three year period.
Up to discovery just paid demanded auto minimum amount. Card company
investigated over four months - decided my case is proven. Cancelled
all the oustanding debts plus repaid interest & charges.+ £5 award.
So card No 1 down to zero balance. Card No 2 debt cleared And repaid
money results in a credit. This money left alone since warned - Should
new information be uncovered the compensation or part ,could be clawed
    back by the bank.
Obviously then well pleased, the sizeable debt, has been turned into
a credit balance - Which is large enough to , along with our other
savings - To .exceed the Total Benefits ceiling of £16,000 we are allowed.

Reasoning this money i.e. the fund the bank deposited for me, without
my agreement! Represents 3 years installments>
Its like being awarding a £10 weekly pay rise, but only being paid after
    six weeks . Then £60!
Case law then declared it was the £10 only to be used to calculate the
    benefits amount, not the £60.
Similar reasoning brings the amount to be considered a DIVISION of
the Deposit by 36. This monthly amount reduces to passable total
cash levels of the household funds. As with the ten ound wage case.
Your thoughts would be appreciated. It does seem unfair I any
compensated for thefts , then end up being penalised by a £700 claw back.
Irronically had the credit card company NOT repaid/cleared the accounts
I'd be not in this crazy expensive situation. Already council tax & rent
aggro, plus clawbacks No excuse being over 80 years of age -But not fair!

i suggest you look at the descriptors and what they actually mean.
scoring 54 points would be totally irrelevant asd
s you need 12 for the drag or 1 support group descriptor to get into the support group.

most people that are self scoring would think they score well, but against a HCP would find out that their opinion means NOTHING at all

out of interest could you tell us where you scored those points.
because many of us would be able to tell you where you are wrongly gaining those points

Don't know how you managed to score so high when I done the test I managed 6 points but then I was truthful :rotfl:
  • How can it calculate help with Council Tax when every Local Authority runs its own scheme with its own separate rules?
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

Universal credit has not been rolled out in all parts of my area yet, but apparently we would be better off on that but I don't understand it prefer the old ways at least I understand them even if we would be entitled to claim more
