I used this calculator and it said I would be entitled to CTB & HB. I applied and was awarded both and am now receiving £212 per month which I hadn't realised I was entitled to before using this site!! Thank you MSE!!0
-
Having used your five minute benefits check it showed that I would be titled to £23.58pw. Working 22hr £675 gross per month plus state pension £113.68pw, this is my only income. Living in my own home paying Council tax £1081.32 year.
Having then phoned for tax credit form TC600 as suggested, when giving them the same information I was told I was NOT entitled to any benefit as income had to be under £12971.00 pa gross.
If this is correct please amend your site.

This calculator stated that we were eligible for £20-something CTB and 115 housing benefit a week which I was rather surprised about. Did the calculation again through the Turn2Us website and it came out that we weren't entitled to anything. Rather confused and think this needs looking at!0

This has really confused me.
I'm currently unemployed and in no receipt of benefits.
I am thinking of moving into my partners council house, she is on income support, child tax credits and full housing/council tax benefit.
On the calculator, if I put down the truth (ie I have zero income) then our joint income is almost £200 a week (not counting rent and council tax) but if I start claiming JSA then our income goes down to just above £130 a week (not including rent and council tax). It says whatever our choice that we would be entitled to council tax and full rent.
So how does it work? Would we both be on income support if I moved into her house? Or would we both be on JSA despite the baby being under 7? If so, would this then reduce our entitlement by £70?
I am looking for work, but even with a degree noone is even looking at me at the moment. That extra £70 a week would make a huge difference to the household.
I suppose the real question is would they allow us to make a joint Income Support claim making us £70 a week better off, or would they force one of us (ie me) onto JSA reducing our potential income by £70 per week?
Thank you for your help and I am sorry for all these questions.
Stopped doing it for a while, need to get back into this!

I've just used the calculator as my circumstances are changing due to inheritance but despite all the remarks from 2 years ago, it hasn't been updated, and the income forecast from savings is totally stupid.
Basically it's not fit for purpose and shouldn't still be being recommended in the newsletters!0 -
i'm actually quite please. I put my details in and i'm not due anything
weird that i'm happy about this but I feel people in my situation shouldn't be due anything so i'm glad that we're not

I am 63 and my wife is 68 but she has been informed that she will not be entited to a state pension until I reach the state pension age of 65 yet the calculator says she became eligible for the state pension in 2005 so now I do not know what to believe.0
