How much money do you have left in your bank account, at the end of the month?

  • About £10 left, as on payday, my microsoft money predicts my leftover salary from all direct debits and bills, I then take out my usual savings and whatever is left I divide into how many Fridays there are until next pay day - this is my weekly allowance and I can carry forward any monies week on week. I am £77 'in credit' from this weeks fund and won't be shopping for a few days, so that will get carried forward, anything left at the end goes into my decorating fund for the house. If I scrimp I can have the outside electric sockets fitted just in time for the summer!!
Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw - managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 2016

Thanks to all who replied to this thread, i'm amazed anyone did, lol. If you think about it, ask anyone in real life, how much they have in their bank account, and they'd say, go and take a running jump, as its one of the things people are most secretive, about.

One thing seems prevalent to me, and thats most people who replied, are probably in a similar situation to me?

Some posts are really useful, as i try and move forward, and try to formulate some plan of how to 'save money ', or organise my frugal account. Because, as someone said in a post, is this current accounts? The sad fact is, i only have a basic current account, so when the money runs out, the money has run out. Thats unless you go to the pawn shop, or like.

I've just opened another basic account, because i'm not allowed a savings account, which currently has zero balance, but the plan is to try and ' save ' any future surplus cash there, for emergencies, having the cash flow problems, of any self employed, person. I've still got to get out of debt first, which is why i now class myself as a dfw. I ' got rid ' of all my debts, but i've had to go ino debt again, after a fashion, to arrive at the place i am, now, after which, i vow, i will never use these forms of borrowing money again.

So i currently have £300 in my bank account, halfway through the month, which travels too fast, as ever, and the dd's approach, and it will all be wiped out, again. Never mind, i'm just about on target to be truly debt free, by mid june. Thats only two months away, but 16 months after br. Its been a long time coming.

At the moment? Not a lot. But thats after some very hefty renovation costs which we paid for in cash. Next month i should have around 750 left after everything. Which I plan to save for an emergency fund over the next year.

Well this month has been about getting our finances in order so any savings will be a bonus. Im pretty confident that we will clear our debts and be in a much better position by March next year. In saying that it depends on our income staying the same as this goverment are hell bent on changes regarding incapacity and dla.

I always end up with £1-£2 left because all my available reserves are in my ISA where they are picking up some interest. Only have three DDs which leave my account a few days after pay day and am more than a little anal about checking my account daily so I am totally confident of never going into my overdraft (which is good because I don't have one). My pay day this month is the 21st and have £51 there which conforms to my budget, £40 at the weekend and a tenner to see me through next week (I've tapped this week's tenner).

I think if you're talking just about your current account - the idea should be to have as close to zero as your budgeting can safely allow.

Mine typically has between £50-£100 in though, just in case I ever make a mistake with something.

Current accounts aren't for keeping money in really.

I'm a second class citizen, as i only have a current account, and a basic one, at that, ( well two now, as i've just received my pin for my new account, yesterday ), also basic, with zero balance. :rotfl:

I'm sure i've heard someone talk about an internet savings account, is it with the yorks bs? for second class citizens. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction? thanks :)

I was skint when I was a student.

Back then skint meant only being able to choose either beer or food, not both.

    Fun times.

Hmmm, i'm more skint now, then i was when i was a student. Its a shocking thought to have gone full circle. This is'nt the way its supposed to happen.

This is a thought provoking post. Fortitude. Me? It was me who got myself in this position, in the first place. Stupid, more like. Sorry, i'm on more of a downer today, due to the fact the expected? pay today or yesterday, is nowhere to be seen. Nor have i spent any money since the ' big ' spend on saturday, because i knew this would happen. Expecting another payment, tomorrow or friday, but thats not real until it hits my account, either. If neither of these materialise, i'm in schtum, again.

But you are right, as i realise they maybe split into different sections of a whole journey. I wonder, where is the destination?

I'm Actually probably the worst person in the world at saving even though i should!, I Would say roughly i pay out 1400 a month on bills, rent and council tax ( live in central london) and have around 1200 left over...Yet i see...Nothing!..I guess i should try the spending diary?!...But then i don't see what i could spend it on...Don't drink, smoke..

Sorry i've made it sound like i'm loaded when im clearly not!
