I'm changing to Android after my contract runs out in December.
I've had an iPhone since release (iPhone 2g, 3g, 3gs), and I'm fed up of my shiny new iPhone being out of date after a year. Seems to me Apple hold back on various features so they can release a new iPhone every year, so people spend money with them.
They could probably make the perfect phone and have done with it, but that wouldn't make them much money.0 -

Android phones have an even shorter shelf life, HTC average new phone releases every 3 months...
Just a fact of life these days0 -

Android phones go out of date a lot quicker and there's always a fear of the phone manufacturer not updating their handsets any more, meaning no more OFFICIAL updates. Unless you are clued up with the whole custom rom stuff... your phone can become very obsolete!
Example is Sony Ericsson delaying their updates for the X10 range, then suddenly saying they are not updating their handsets any more. Few weeks later they agreed to update it to 2.3 in the summer!
Or get an HTC who will continuously update their phones and prob stop up to a point. Like the Wildfire is stopping at 2.2, understandably because the new wildfire S is being released.0 -
But Android phones cost less than the iPhone.
The missus just got a HTC Wildfire...nice little phone. Most of my mates have the HTC Desire HD after owning an iPhone and would never go back.0 -

But does it really matter? As long as the one you have does what you need it to, who cares about the allegedly "better" new models out there. My HD2 is 18 months old, and I plan on keeping it for at least that long again (plus it's running a lovely custom ROM from XDA so it does things it didn't know it could... like dual-boot WinMo/ Android)... granted, it does have a 1ghz processor so despite being an "old" phone it's still pretty much on par with the rest of new ones on the hardware
As for the question from the OP: I'd wait until the iPhone 5 is announced and then pick up one of the 4s that people will be desperate to get rid of... (well actually, I wouldn't buy Apple, but that's a different story...)Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -

Yeah i own a htc wildfire, looking to upgrade it to something a bit faster. I am fed up with the constant lag and delays. Thats my fault for buying a phone with so little processing power!
I updated to the latest 2.2 and didnt know it blocked the access of using a custom rom.
Going to looking for a 1ghz+ processor or dual core android next :cool:0 -

Have you looked on the XDA-devs forum? I'd be very surprised if they haven't found a way...
Edit: and if they haven't yet I'm sure they're working on it!Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -

I'll be the one to say it... what about switching to Android Phone? You'll get a bfaster phone than an Iphone 4 and possibly a better camera too, for a lower price.
.
And you'll be charging it every day and also finding out that some apps aren't available as they've not released a version for your manufacturers customised version of Android.0 -
I've just received my new phone today, a Samsung Galaxy S. On first look (and play!), speed wise, it walks all over my iPhone 3G. Pages are loaded in an instance. Even this forum which was very slow on the iPhone loads up alot quicker.
The similarities between the two are non existent.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0
