It may have some bad comments on here but I fed my dog on bakers the last 9 years because we could always get it when we are away from home but have also fed her on cooked ox liver, ox heart (both really cheap) and tinned fish from nettos. She has alway been fit and healthy with a lovely coat. She is only now not eating it as we are feeding her (as advised by the vet) anything she will eat as she is in the latter stages of renal failure.
The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T

What do people think of Chappie complete dried food? I've read through this whole thread and not seen it mentioned. My 4/5 year old rescue lurcher has been on in for a month an a half now (on a recommendation from another sighthound owner) and is doing really well on it-poos are firmer, gaining some much needed weight, more energetic etc.
Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!

We use Chappie sometimes if the CSJ doesn't agree with a dog, seems to be very good for dogs with picky tummies.

  • Oh dear.

So I take my dogs' diets wouldn't be approved of nowdays?

    Cat food.

    Dog biscuits.

    Toast crusts.

Ice cream cones (just no chocolate sauce or 99)

    Digestive biscuits dunked in tea.

    Tea.

    Water.

    Leftover meat and veggies.

Leftover battered fish skin and some cold chips on a Saturday.

Chicken giblets (had to fight it out with the 5 cats - who usually won as they could climb with their prizes)

Full Sunday dinner with meat (usually chicken), veg and gravy.

The Beagle lived until he was about 16 on this.

[sits back to await RSPCA visit]
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Actually that's all good stuff - as long as you don't give them the bones from your cooked meat in leftovers!

Commercial dog food has only been produced for the last 50 odd years - we've had dometic dogs as pets for hundred of years! What do you think they were fed on before if not table scraps and cooking leftovers?
