My home is a mess

I love it, Sonastin and Fruball, and to prove it, DD1, OH and I have just played a number of games of Frustration, bought for us by DD2, accompanied by mulled wine. Excellent stuff! :rotfl: The kitchen work surfaces never got cleaned, although it was obvious that OH had cleaned the bits off them (where's a fainting smilie when you need it?). The floor did get swept, though. DD1 goes home tomorrow, so a bit of normality will return, in that there can ever be normality in our family!0

Hi Messies!
Bearcub, I know what you mean about missing folks but having to share their time with others. DGD was here from end of term till Christmas morning, but now it`s her mum`s turn and I do miss her! Our cat is only playful with DGD so she isn`t bothering the tinsel now...
YL, your Christmas gathering sounds quite demanding, no wonder you`re glad it`s over!
Snookey, I was really so tempted by the buffet stuff in Iceland, but I had no freezer space. I`ve had to do a lot of freezer tetris as it is, it took a lot of effort just to make room for the huge half-price leg of lamb before it`s use-by date but I did it!
Sonastin & JPS - I`m so glad your pickled eggs were a success. The bought ones are so dear for what you get, and never as nice as HM. I like the sound of the pink peppercorns too, might try that next time.
FA, "squalor" is a bit strong! Well done you on staying calm and letting HWTHMBO & the kids to clean up!
What`s "FB-ing???"
Buffy ((HUGS)). I dumped lots of stuff upstairs too. It`ll keep. Re the budgeting....I had to buy another sack of Daftie-dog food today, and another sack of black sunflower seeds. It`s cheaper in the long run buying big sacks rather than little bags, but that was fifty quid today! So much for my `no-spend` plans for the rest of the year. No point in getting anxious though. I am DETERMINED to `shop` from my freezers whenever possible for a while now though.
Fruball, good luck with your cleaning plans while your DDs are away.
And why SHOULD you (or Buffy) get dressed??? I don`t do pj`s, but I have the equivalent `comfy house-scruffs` - baggy-kneed trousers & bobbly long jumpers, wearing stuff you don`t go out in helps you not to bother going out!!
Messy Status Report:
Upstairs I am not going to talk about - or think about, for the rest of this year. I`m back at work tomorrow, and although I have Jan !st off am working again on 2nd, so I don`t intend doing much then either! From the 3rd I`ve got a few days off, so that`s when I`ll think about upstairs...so there!
Amazingly, my LR has stayed really nice. Except Daftie-dog did a little widdle on one of the clean woolly rugs yesterday, but that got washed and is upstairs nearly dry, and I got another clean one out of the caravan of Doom, so you`d never know.
The sofa & flat surfaces have stayed clear. (Dunno how, it`s a new record!)
Kitchen not bad at all, I have been fierce about keeping on top of that (with myself as well as OH & DS.)
WM - 2 loads today, DS`s stuff mostly as he`s Going Away (Yay!!) to GF`s tomorrow. That`ll help keep the place tidy too....
I`ve been to farm shop, (inc dogfood & sunflower seeds) and Mr. M.s on the way back just for a few bits, so no shopping hopefully till next year.
I`ve sorted fridge, conformed with use-by dates except the cheese, which is silly anyway, squoze leg of lamb into freezer, got a ham simmering in apple juice on the hob and a big lump of beef in oblong pseudo le creusot pot in the oven.
I won`t be home to cook stuff slowly in the next few days, so doing it now. Haven`t so much actually "Meal-Planned" but have a nice list of quick options up my sleeve to use with the beef & ham. I`ll let OH choose, spoil him a bit.
Going to make a fire now, get the rest of DS`s stuff dry, and check things in the kitchen, early supper with telly on, will use frozen yorkies tonight as no freezer space.
Enjoy your weekend all.x0 -

It sounds a lot worse than it is - I've been with HWTHMBO for 15 years and every now and then (about 3-4 moths) he gets a bee in his bonnet about 'the state of the house' but considering I don't clean hardly at all )about once every 6 weeks or so) I think it's pretty good. He knew what he was getting from the off, as I told him I don't cook or clean shortly before I moved in.
FB-ing is FaceBook-ing, I joined FB on Xmyth Day after being nagged incessantly everyone in my circle(s) of friends. now i'm there, I'm discovering SO many things!
Off to the outlaws (HWTHMBO's parents) house today for a day of xmyth - :j

Evening Messies.
It sounds as if your home's stayed pretty tidy, Emms, which, given that you've not a lot of time off, has got to be good.
Ah, all is clearer now, FA, about the cleaning/clearing up. So, it's mainly your OH that does the cooking and celaning, or is it just as you say, that cleaning gets done occasionally? Sorry, am I being nosy?
I joined FB because someone persuaded me to. Sadly, after a couple of weeks, she decided that she didn't want to talk to me after all, and cut me off from her list. I do still post occasionally, but have a very limited list of 'friends' on there. Tbh, I find it very boring and a very poorly put together site.
Our house continues to be a mess, and really needs attending to, but I just enjoyed lazing today. Cleaning will start on Monday.0 -
My home is a mess why can't I just throw everything out, I feel so down about it. I just think how mch we paid for the stuff and I keep saying I'll ebay or car boot it but this never happensStarting to save £2 coins again, but it is a struggle:rotfl:Not doing very well keep spending them

This is the point I hit a few weeks ago.
I cannot bear it any more and the feeling of despair has taken over the feelings of keeping stuff to sell.
I cleared the whole living/dining room before xmas and threw out stuff and made up a charity bag!
It wasn't as difficult as I thought and I am so much happier now that there is less stuff in the house.
I think you have to think of things in terms of whether they are useful, make you happy and whatever else it was I read somewhere :rotfl: Now I look at things and think "you do not make me happy so you are going in the bin, never to be seen again" and I do it
But believe me, I had to hit rock bottom where my house was concerned, and I have only done one room so far...
Good luck x0 -
Hi Messies
MILLYMOLLY - I can sympathise with you, i often feel this way about things at our house, i've found that sometimes a good chuck out is what you need to do to get started! I always say i'm gonna ebay things and then they get left lying, so now i bag up old clothes and take them to the clothes recycling bank as i can park the car next to them and unload quite easily! As for other things i pick a few of the best bits to go on ebay/preloved and the rest gets chucked! I've also trained myself not to buy bits of 'tat' anymore when i'm out shopping, no matter how much of a bargain it may seem!! I'm a long way from getting things totally how i want them but i'm making progress!!
No de-messying done since christmas day, i've worked two afternoons at the vets and today i've been running the girls round to tennis all day. Tomorrow is a day at home so i'll get a few jobs done i hope!
Take care!!
JxxIt's a farmers life for me......:j0 -
Well done Fruball - so far in two years I've done the kitchen (still needs the odd bit of tarting up, but acceptable and nice to be in now), the boxroom of doom (cleared out, painted and now very tidy, stayed that way since summer and now being used as a walk in wardrobe/bedding/soft furnishings storeroom) and painted the main bedroom (again still needs a bit of tarting up bit)
Main bedroom stays mainly tidy but gets very dusty as I am a housework refuser in term time
The dining room (my den) where I spend pretty much all my time is tidy ish, but needs a good sort out of shelves etc. The lounge really needs a bit of attention now, I've got too much fabric/crafting stuff piled up and it needs painting and shelves going up.
And finally.... the spare room of doom - that happy hunting ground of all things tatty, unwanted or forgotten. It looks a bit like the room of requirement in Harry Potter. Not much worth selling, though, I'm afraid, but it's the one room I cannot get myself to start on.
Yikes, the power has just gone off again for the second time. Just a couple of seconds, but a bit scary. Hope this post isn't going to disappear!
So anyhoo, my new years resolutions - continue with housework improvement, lose weight (sigh), get fitter (big sigh), eat healthier (roll eyes). I'm a bit incorrigible when it comes to my weight and general fitness. Being a lazy blob by default doesn't help really, I feel deprived if I don't get lazy time. And my lazy time includes very indulgent eating habits too.
And so to my diet... well I have introduced healthier choices over the years and mostly stick to them, but including oat bran in my HM bread and muesli doesn't really help a lot when I can put away an entire box of matchmakers in half an hour (and that's not the worst of it, I'm going easy so I don't frighten the faint hearted)
Well, we're nearly in 2013 messies. We've survived extreme weather conditions and the end of the world (I think I was asleep at the time and missed it). What will 2013 bring us, I wonder. Hope it's not more rain... I'm annoyed at my quagmire of a garden, but at least the house is dry - I feel so sorry for all those displaced by the floods. What a rotton thing to happen.
I seem to be rambling a bit, so I'll sign off now... love to all and hope everyone is well and happy.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
