Happy boxing day messies one and all! Emm well done on your Christmas shift, and how lovely that your little old lady had such a nice visit and enjoyed her new nighties and whisky! I love your Christmas night too - Dr Who was ace wasn't it? :D

Sonastin I did some pickled eggs too, and put some pink peppercorns that I found in tesco in with them (I'm not fond of "normal" pickling spices or anything clovey) and tried one today... they are lovely so I'm going to do them as pressies next year.

Bearcub, I'm still a mess here, I decided to just enjoy the time I have at home instead of stressing over it. I might have a go at some tidying and sorting out next week. The kitchen still looks great and is really nice to work in now so that's something!

Yorkshirelass I bet that sums up a lot of family Christmasses! Well done on getting through it and enjoy a nice relax now if you can.

I spent Christmas day with my elderly parents who were in really good spirits this year - I gave dad a hamper with lots of little things that I know he loves, and he was really pleased with it - it was so nice to see that, as he's been to hell and back over the past two years. I know he was really pleased because he's a grumpy old man, and doesn't pretend, ever ;)

Mum is really easy to please and always delighted with what I get her - we drank some sherry and had a lot of laughs. It was great to be lighthearted after some incredibly stressful times for them.

Came home to my cat and a lovely relaxing evening with lots of cheesy Christmas telly... haven't stopped picking at snacks since, I'm going to have to really get to dieting after New Year!

Snookey those Iceland buffet snacks look lovely on the adverts, I meant to try some. Are they as good as they look on the telly?

Another nice lazy night here, just watching Alice in Wonderland. I think I might bother the cooking sherry in a bit too! :p

Hi, Jps. I'm very pleased to hear that you and your parents had a good time, after all the hard times. How lovely that your dad enjoyed his presents - so nice to see a usually 'grumpy' person obviously pleased by something. My mum, sadly, always makes it very obvious when she's not interested in something, particularly tv programmes, and talks loudly through it. Drives me nuts, particularly as I know she does it deliberately. Still, she seems to have enjoyed the last couple of days.

I have two especially close female friends, of completely different character. The one I've known longer decided this year that there were to be no present giving, only to under 21s in her family. Fair enough, except that it was her birthday on Christmas Day, which was a bit sad, so I made her a very special card. To the other close friend, I made up a small felt stocking of small gifts. I'd told her that her present would appeal to the child in her, and it did. She was really chuffed and, since she makes me laugh a lot even when I'm a bit down, I was pleased, too.

Sounds lovely! That's the sort of thing I want to do more of for Christmas 2013.

:rotfl: @ HWTHMBO he's just had a rant at how filthy the house is he used the word squalor... I just calmly carried on FB-ing whilst he rallied Thing A (DS#1) and Thing B (DS#2) to clean, tidy and vacuum the front room and dining room.
it's funny how after 3 days of being home and me not doing my usual routine of picking up after everyone and cleaning, that all-of-a-sudden the house is intolerably messy (to him).

    Afternoon Messies.

I admire your control, FA. I'm not sure I'd have been so restrained, but well done. We can only hope that something will sink into your OH's brain. ;)

Our lounge is still messy, but it's kitchen that needs attention. The floor badly needs sweeping, and the work saurfaces could do with a good wipe-down. OH and DD1 will go for a pre-dinner drnk later, so that'll be my chance. I've done a WM load and hung it on the drier, though: the laundry basket was getting a tad full. :o
  • Oh Messies!

it is 2pm I am NOT dressed yet.

My room is a mess and I am sitting in the living room which is tidy only cos we dumped everything upstairs!

Oh dear < my favourite phrase at the moment.

been trying to figure out cash and can't

I am utterly rubbbish with money.

    makes me anxious.

    xx
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • and FA I would have hit someone! :) very restrained.

Oh Buffy (((hugs))) I suffer with anxiety too and it's horrid - things will work out.

I didn't get dressed on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and neither did my DDs :D We did change into fresh Christmas PJs though but it was lovely to be snug and comfy :D

DDs are away for a couple of days now so I am hoping to do with the rest of the house, what I did with the living room (altho the living room is untidy again, but not squalid ((love that word)) like it was before!

They are taking most of their good clothes with them so it will (again, hopefully) give me the chance to get rid of old things knowing that they will still have enough clothes to wear!

Kitchen is dire  so I will attack that later.

Hugs to all those that need them x

FA - well done on getting them to clear up after themselves for once! OH henry'd the house on xmas eve while I was out and now thinks he's done the cleaning. He was upset when I said I was going to spend today & tomorrow cleaning... until I reminded him that we also have a bathroom and surfaces that need cleaning as well as a carpet! Still, it is one less job for me to do.

Buffy - I am very jealous. Used to spend the holidays not getting dressed until such time as I needed to leave the house (which could be not at all if I wasn't going anywhere). Now I'm not living on my own, I feel like I have to make the effort & only get to lounge around for a couple of hours. OH has never said anything but I just feel like I ought to. There are some days when I really miss that freedom of being single! (I know you are on the look out for that special someone but make sure you make the most of what you've got at the moment while you've got it - there are advantages to having a partner but they also bring downsides ;))

Bearcub - I know what you mean about laundry. Managed to wash more pairs of OH's pants today than I thought he owned. He must be wearing his last clean pair at the moment :rotfl: Kitchen floor here needs sweeping too but as I have 2 maidens full of clothes drying in there at the moment, it'll have to wait till morning. I've gotten into a really bad habit of sweeping crumbs and stuff off the worktop onto the floor. We have an undermounted sink so the crumbs off the adjacent worktop get swept into the sink... and I use the same action on the rest of the tops but there's only the floor below to catch it. I suppose it wouldn't matter if I was more disciplined at sweeping up :D

I'm feeling really "motivated" to get the house sorted at the moment. As in I'm really wanting to get up and get on with it. But OH has got E.T. on the TV and I somehow seem rooted to the sofa. I can't even get my backside moving during the ad breaks - probably because I'm posting on MSE as well. The film is nearly finished so I. Will. Get. Going. Then. No really.... wish me luck ;)
