My home is a mess

Well done Fruball - so far in two years I've done the kitchen (still needs the odd bit of tarting up, but acceptable and nice to be in now), the boxroom of doom (cleared out, painted and now very tidy, stayed that way since summer and now being used as a walk in wardrobe/bedding/soft furnishings storeroom) and painted the main bedroom (again still needs a bit of tarting up bit)
Main bedroom stays mainly tidy but gets very dusty as I am a housework refuser in term time
The dining room (my den) where I spend pretty much all my time is tidy ish, but needs a good sort out of shelves etc. The lounge really needs a bit of attention now, I've got too much fabric/crafting stuff piled up and it needs painting and shelves going up.
And finally.... the spare room of doom - that happy hunting ground of all things tatty, unwanted or forgotten. It looks a bit like the room of requirement in Harry Potter. Not much worth selling, though, I'm afraid, but it's the one room I cannot get myself to start on.
Yikes, the power has just gone off again for the second time. Just a couple of seconds, but a bit scary. Hope this post isn't going to disappear!
So anyhoo, my new years resolutions - continue with housework improvement, lose weight (sigh), get fitter (big sigh), eat healthier (roll eyes). I'm a bit incorrigible when it comes to my weight and general fitness. Being a lazy blob by default doesn't help really, I feel deprived if I don't get lazy time. And my lazy time includes very indulgent eating habits too.
And so to my diet... well I have introduced healthier choices over the years and mostly stick to them, but including oat bran in my HM bread and muesli doesn't really help a lot when I can put away an entire box of matchmakers in half an hour (and that's not the worst of it, I'm going easy so I don't frighten the faint hearted)
Well, we're nearly in 2013 messies. We've survived extreme weather conditions and the end of the world (I think I was asleep at the time and missed it). What will 2013 bring us, I wonder. Hope it's not more rain... I'm annoyed at my quagmire of a garden, but at least the house is dry - I feel so sorry for all those displaced by the floods. What a rotton thing to happen.
I seem to be rambling a bit, so I'll sign off now... love to all and hope everyone is well and happy.
You are too funny :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Loved that post0 -
I found this poem on FB and thought i'd share it here:

:rotfl:FA! Not that I ever had that problem with OH, despite the fact that he was an only child, and his grandparents lived in the family house, too.
The house is still a muddle, and every room needs a clean and tidy up, apart from the bathroom, which was cleaned this morning. Both laundry baskets (one in the bathroom for clothes, the other for towels and bedding in the conservatory temporarily) are full to almost overflowing. Still, the WM is loaded with towels for washing tomorrow morning and, while OH is off to the far side of town to get bedding for the equines, I shall start on the de-messying. It's not so much the cleaning, but I MUST start tidying stuff away, because I'm getting fed-up with falling over stuff.0 -
Evening Messies.
Ah, all is clearer now, FA, about the cleaning/clearing up. So, it's mainly your OH that does the cooking and cleaning, or is it just as you say, that cleaning gets done occasionally? Sorry, am I being nosy?.
HWTHMBO gets up at very dark o'clock on a work day (5am, always has done) and walks dogs (about an hour), empties DW, empties WM (into basket), makes his pack up, does some kind of fitness thing (jumping around to music, weight training, wii fit, wii superfit), does internets thing (he's a freelance web designer/developer), then comes upstairs with a cup of tea for me and gets children up at 6:45, eats breakfast with children, feeds dogs, comes upstairs with children to get ready for the day, chivvies eldest to get dressed for school, chivvies youngest to get dressed for school, HWTHMBO has a shave, a hairwash, and gets dressed to ride motorcycle, chivvie eldest to put on m/c kit for ride to school, <by which time I am usually up and nearly dressed ready to do school run>, DS#1 and HWTHMBO leave for their school run by m/c at 07:50, DS#2 and I take dogs out for another walk (about 15-30 mins depends on homework/guitar practise/something else), do homework, do guitar practise, hang out washing (indoors or outside), make dinner if working and not Monday, check kit for today, sort out dogs (chews/bed/water/food/kitchen), do school run in car, drink coffee @ another SRM's house, drive back or drive to work/supermarket/somewhere, depends on my day but I either work at home/work out of home/sign on/do computery stuff/food shop/cleaning (sometimes)/eBay/Music Magpie/Internets/garden/dogs.
You might have guessed I'm not a morning person.
I only proper clean every 6 weeks, the rest gets a lick and a promise if I notice (except bathroom and kitchen they get cleaned every day).
If I am working DS#1 gets buses (x2 or x3 - joy of living in the sticks!) home, DS#2 goes to after school club and I collect him after work and meet DS#1 on way home.
If it's Wednesday I volunteer but finish early enough to collect children from their respective schools at kicking out time. DS#2 is at lots of after school clubs too so usually collect him last. Maybe go home via shopping if I'm feeling brave. Come home, walk dogs (1 hour), make snack for children, eat snack, do homework, do guitar practise, watch a little TV, check emithers, prep dinner, HWTHMBO comes home around 6, eat dinner or go swimming then eat, feed dogs, load DW, children to bed, load WM, clean kitchen, <I usually go to bed at 9pm or earlier>. So there's my 'normal' weekday... well, you asked!
Of course on the weekend it's different.
I usually get up and deal with the dogs whilst HWTHMBO is asleep and sort out the kids and  make my own cup of tea...just in case you need to know:

Afternoon Messies. from a very wet and windy island - again.
FA, I'm sorry I asked now, but I wasn't after detail. :rotfl: It all sounds very complicated, but it obviously works for your family. with you bopth working mostly from home, I suppose tasks are for the taking.
DD1 said to me a couple of days that she doesn't like the way DD2's bf 'expects' her to cook for him. Actually, since they moved in together, DD2 has always wanted to cook for him (partly because he makes such a mess when he cooks for himself) which is why, I guess, he sort of expects her to do it. When I think back, I always cooked for us, except at weekends once we had kids, so I suppose I could say that OH expected me to cook. Now, he does all the cooking of meals, which he enjoys, and I definitely don't!
Relatively early start for us today, as OH took one of the cats to the vet (the other had battered him big time, and he'd made it a lot worse by continually scratching), then went to feed the horses. I switched on the WM and the BM. I've now hung the washing to dry, and have just heard the BM beep to tell me it's finished. I'm just about to sort out another WM load. Have to take Mum to the hairdresser in 20 mins time then, when I've collected her again, I'm going to give her a quick (hopefully) lesson on how to use the new phone we gave her for Christmas.0 -

that is AMAZING!
Wow. my life is completely chaotic in comparsion.
That would explain a great deal about the state of my house! We have no such delegation or organisation................hmmmm.
I am clearing out the loft this afternoon. So I shall wish you all a happy new year now just in case
xxxxNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Oh, Buffy, do be careful you don't disappear, won't you! A rope around your middle and through the door, just in case, maybe?0

Hello messies, Happy New Year to you all!
My house is a horrible mess but I'm still in denial so it's staying that way for now. I'm enjoying a lovely peaceful New Year's eve at home on my own, family do tomorrow - it will be lovely to see everyone but I'm not much of a party animal so am making the most of tonight!
Buffy hope the loft has released you!
Thanks for sharing with me over the past year messies, I couldn't have done it without you :TI believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

A Very Happy New year to you, too, Jps, and all messies. May your 2013 be free of mess and clutter, be that physically or in your mind, or both. Here's to a smiley new year! :beer:0

Hi Messies!
Happy New Year everyone.
JPS, if you`re there & reading this tonight - Extra ((Hugs)), hope you enjoy the peace & quietand denied mess...(mess? what mess? I`m someone who calls the LR `tidy` if there`s room for 2 bums on the sofa. Room for 3 bums is absolutely Pristine!!)
I`m sort of on my own at the mo,for a bit, so taking this opportunity to post.
Because you Messies are a real life-line when I feel submerged. The mess doesn`t go away, the everyday hassles don`t let up, but you folks posting on here help SO much to make it all cope-able, reading your posts and posting my bits really IS therapeutic, and I want to say thanks & wish you all a good new year.
DS has gone to his GF`s for a few days, they`ll phone in a bit.
My Godson phoned just before I started this post - that was lovely too.
DGD has been here briefly with her mum, had a lovely natter with the latter too.
OH has nipped off for a `disco-nap` as he started celebrating earlier...I have to call him at 11.40 to do the First-Footing (household ritual,as my mum always insisted on it - go out the back door with coal & piece of bread, lurk till the 12th chime then come in the front door. That`s OH`s job)
Then we`ll have supper - HM ham done in apple-juice, chips & fried egg - I`ve made a sweet potato curry sauce to put on the chips.
Enjoy the last of the old year, & God Bless all in the new one. xx0
