My home is a mess

Yeah but it's all contained up there isn't it, it's not falling down into your food or being a health hazard. It's all stuck up there safe on top of the cupboard!
When I first did mine I used a paint scraper to get the gunk off then scraped the residue up with newspaper then used a normal washing up scrubby sponge thing and a bowl of warm soapy water. It worked really well. After that I put some newspaper on the top of the cupboards so I could just throw that away and replace it with less cleaning required.0 -
Or if you have sugar soap that would be good. We used it for the first time recently and it's brilliant!0

Sugar soap is excellent, make it up with powder rather than buying it ready made, and you can make a very strong solution for that kind of job. Wear gloves!
Shop just rang to say the new fridge freezer should be here within the hour :jI believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Morning All!
FW, I`m glad you`re enjoying the vet surgery job.
Bearcub - thanks for the cat pictures. As JPS said, cats ARE messy (so are dogs) so they have every right to be on here!
JPS - glad you`ve got the new fridge freezer sorted so quickly. When I got the larder fridge it stood out like a big shiny sore thumb in the kitchen, but it`s looking `normal` there now....
Re cupboard tops....I`m afraid they are in the same category as ironing for me. There is `greaseproof` paper on there, from when they were first put up (I vaguely recall) but as for climbing up the walls and changing it...not on my agenda, sorry.
I`m going to nip into town with DGD as there`s a shop-closing sale and she fancies some ug-boots...there may be other stuff there for her, but pointless shopping without having her along too. I`m determined not to spend much time wandering around town on a Saturday though, want to potter in the garden a bit too.

Emm, you notice I said "I could" change the newspaper, it doesn't mean I do!0

GR, I feel your pain. Spending a whole day of my weekend clearing, cleaning etc is not my idea of fun. But I guess if I want next weekend to be better then it has to be done.
Unfortunately, in my place - every weekend is exactly the same, it never is better. Dog and cats take care of it....0 -
DC and GR... I think you've just put it all in a nutshell for us messies. Our homes are messier than we would have them if circumstances were perfect for maintaining a clean and tidy home (i.e. no one living in it and no pets either!!), but circumstances are not like that, we have jobs and families and pets... and things get away from us easily.
If you can bear to, just do the absolute minimum and allocate yourself lazy time, when you can read, surf, sleep, whatever floats your boat and to hell with the mess for a bit.
If you're anything like me you must have that time or your head will fall off.
Fridge freezer update... it's here, shiny, sparkly and I can turn it on in four hours!! Oooh I never thought I'd be this enraptured by a kitchen appliance.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

YUp - exactly. Living alone I would not need to clean up more than once per week. With the pets - I SHOULD clean up every single day (hovering/mopping) but working/commuting to work.. simply have no time or energy to do that.
So end up with the same mess every single weekend....
Sigh....
Cats kicked out to the garden, better start on something now.... sigh....
One of the bedrooms is permanently locked so nice and clean (daughter moved out, not creating "spare room for junk, just locked and that is it) so really have a 1 bedroom flat only tyo clean BUT - what a mess...
Zara (the dog) was nicking cat food yesterday from high up so on top of all got cat food all over the place... She dinks - she slobbers so that on top... sigh......
OK< getting started... sighhh0 -
Ops... haven't got a single black bag at home... oh dear.. only small carrier bags. And I need a black bag. For the rubbish..... nothing to improvise with.. sigh.....
Still, second load of wash in the w/m (bedding, got to wash/change every week), blankets. At least it is not raining so will hopefully dry outside.....0 -
Afternoon Messies.
OK, my cats are officially messies! :rotfl: (although OH seems to be doing a lot of the cleaning up after them!)
Don't think I've seen the tops of our kitchen cupboards since we moved in 7 years ago, dogstar. OH did when he painted the walls, but apart from that .....jps, I'm glad you're happy with your fridge/freezer. It'll make things so much easier for you. And very kind of your mum.
Hope your shooping trip with DGD was successful, Emms, and that you get some useful time in the garden.
I know that, unlike most others on this thread, I don't go to work, so I have plenty of time. Well, no I don't, most of the time. So many people say the same thing when they retire, "How on earth did I fit everything in when I was working?" It's like a gas - everything spreads out to fill all available space - and that includes using the pooter!
Today, I've hung out some of yesterday's washing that hadn't quite dried, put away washed and, in the case of 3 pairs of jeans, ironed, clothes. Have dead-headed a few plants, and have taken loads of pics of Star, because I need a decent one to send to the rescue centre. Now Photobucket won't work! :mad:0
