My home is a mess

Hi again everyone, thanks for the kind words. A journal is a good idea, I do have one but dont write in it very often.
I need to be kinder to myself and stop over-analysing everything. Its easy to forget that sometimes.
Oh and that cake sounds lovely! Hubby would love it, might have to give it a try.
Met up with sis. Her kids spent the whole time squabbling and she was really fed up with them. It made me feel better, see I am not the only one with a less than perfect life. Does that make me sound mean? I did enjoy having a good natter with her and we have made plans for a night out once the kids are back at school.
Kitchen floor hoovered and mopped (water very disgusting). Chicken defrosting for tea. Its going to be chicken in a jar of cook in sauce with rice and salad. DS1 out with a friend, DS2 on XBox so I am going to do nothing for an hour! Even the dog is asleep so nobody wants me - yippee!0 -
Oh Cat how can you say you're not wise!! You're so right, sitting in the garden is not wasted time and I'm a lucky girl that a) I have a garden and b) I have the luxury of time. Never mind if it's a bit of a mess! As I've said before, all gardens are a work in progress, and there little gems shining out that you have to stop and appreciate, or all the work is for nothing anyway!
Yes, clothes are styled for sticks or pears, never for apples. Apple shapes are never in fashion either. That's another good thing about being a mad old bat, I don't really give a hoot about fashion - I choose fairly loose-fitting, conservative clothes so I don't look scary and cool I am not.
Bearcub that recipe looks amazing, I am going to have to try it when Mum brings apples from her tree.
Kraftykat well done with your top MoneySaving! :money:
Bread is in the machine, washing on the line, another load in, and I'm loving my lazy day!
Lol - I'm not wise, just say what I think. But the bit about stopping to appreciate things, now THAT is wisdom! How lovely that you can enjoy your garden AND enjoy watching the fruits of your labour (washing on the line) at the same time - result!!:p
I wear loose things too, but if it's loose enough to hide the stomach it's falling off at the top:mad: Trying to persuade DD2 to chip in with me for a decent exercise bike (I like to do my exercise sitting down). I'm not allowed to cycle for another week or so though
Just remembered that an old school friend on FB always advertises when the apples from the apple trees in his garden are falling and tells people to come and get some, so this year I will
I always get Branston beans too, usually when Mr A have the four tins for a pound offer on.
I'm going to finish off the dishes, I've also cleared some rubbish from the living room (what happened to my tidy living room?Oh that's right - DD1 happened!) After that I'm not going to do any more because I feel a bit drained and sick again. It seems crazy having to rest up for a week just for a nose op but that's what they tell you and I guess they have good reason!

YL - no, it doesn't make you sound mean, it makes you sound human!! Glad you had a nice time

Sometimes, jps, I believe we should just sit and watch the flowers grow, or the butterflies go by. Before we know it, the opportunity's gone, so let's make the most of it!
YL, I think most women over-analyse - my OH sometimes gently reprimands me for doing it. It's almost as if I'm a couple of steps ahead, in my head, of what's actually happened or happening. You have worries about your DS, as I've had (and still have to an extent) worries about my DD2. My head goes onto think what might happen. As OH says, "You don't know that!" He's right, of course. I find my journal is great for getting my thoughts down in black and white, and often helps put things into perspective.
You're all very welcome to the recipe. I think I originally got it from Family Circle mag - anyone remember that? - and it's been in written in my recipe book for years.
I've cleaned the hob and kitchen work surfaces, and am now going to do a bit of gardening. See you later.0 -
Sonastin, I can understand your need for time on your own. Because OH and I are both retired, and our house is small, we do spend a lot of time togethe. Most of the time, that's great, but I do love the couple of hours every day that OH goes out to see to the horses, then goes for a beer. I actually enjoy my own company. How infuriating about the WM.
Completely forgot about that! Instead of sitting here at work surfing the net, I should get off my backside, get home, get the washing out and then log back on & surf the net :rotfl:
I'll be back to catch up with the rest of the thread in a wee while...0 -
Hey Messers! All caught up now!
Bearcub, yep, I'm a scientist in Ireland who can't get a job, LOL! :rotfl:
So my house is more messier now than to begin with! Going to do a blitz when OH goes out with mates later, I like doing it when he's not about, its easier!
If I get the sitting room dusted and the dining room done I would be delighed.. Sitting room badly needs dusting..
It's a wonder how anyone kept older houses going. I feel like the place is going to fall down on me! In particular, my bedroom is a little bit damp. Anyone any thoughts on how to improve this?094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

Hi everyone.
My tidying/cleaning/de cluttering continues.
9 binbags and haf a wheelie bin filled . other stuff given away/sent to a shop to sell/given to charity. Its very liberating.0 -
wow oldtractor, that's a LOT of stuff! :T I won't ask what you got rid of because I'm a firm believer in "out of house, out of mind"
tata I much prefer doing stuff when nobody is in too. I think it's because I don't feel any niggling resentment that there are 3 people in the house doing nothing while I'm workingDS goes back to school tomorrow and DDs will be back at college in less than two weeks so I'm hoping to get things back on track a bit then!

Tata, science is so difficult to get into now, isn't it? And the government keep telling us we need more scientists. <rolls eyes> How old is your house? DD1 lives in a rented flat, part of a Victorian house, and I think the landlord hadn't realised just how expensive maintenance could get.0

Got home and got washing out to dry. Did another load and hung that out. Made dinner. Cleared kitchen. Went to a$sda for petrol and a couple of other bits. Put bin out when I got home. Washing isn't quite dry so I've left it on the line. Weather forecast better be right about the rain not coming in till mid-morning!! The bits I need for tomorrow are airing in the kitchen just in case. Feel a bit better for being productive tonight althoguh the bathroom is still disgustingly manky. But still, think I deserve that glass of wine after all!0
