I came here looking for inspiration to clean up the midden and instead of actually doing something, have been 'lurking' since Monday and I'm only up to page 49, lol. I have been sidetracked to some of the other forums, too, but this morning the sun shone and I became MOTIVATED.
So far today I have washed the bedroom curtains, OH manky pillow, cut OH hair, put away dried washing and have bedding waiting to go in machine. Just off to do second round of washing up, load washer again, then wash bedroom windows and iron curtains. Woooohooo, I'm on a roll.0 -

Afternoon Messies and a big welcome to Scarlet Raven. Sorry to hear about the rough times you've been through, but try following the baby steps method, and you'll soon feel as if you're achieving something - and that's very important when your self-esteem and/or confidence has taken a battering.Bearcub also sent me some pictures of her mess which helped me see I was not alone, everyone is so kind. You will get better and so will your home x
Actually, Soworried, it was Cat. She's the one who's done wonders in trying to turn her life around.
FA, voluntary work is often so much more rewarding than a paid job, in a different way. I can almost understand why some brave people give up the 'day job' to go and do something else that's considerably lower paid. How wonderful to be getting some greyhounds - they're my DD1's favourite dogs.
Of course, it would be a waste not stopping to watch the birds, Emms! How could anyone believe otherwise?
I just took a break from posting this. OH had put a couple of pairs of jeans in the WM, hoping that they could be hung outside to dry, but it's now pouring. I didn't dare put them in the conservatory, in case the cat woke up. She's totally deaf, but knows when one of us is around - by smell, vibration? I knew, if she woke, with OH not here (he'd gone to get some bedding for the stables), she'd just sit by the front door and yowl. Anyway, she woke up, I went to hang the washing up, and just had to sweep the floor, as it was so messy. So, one unscheduled job done. Not so good, there's our old pine-framed bathroom mirror leaning against my craft cupboard out there. I caught it with the broom and, in an effort to stop it falling (sucessful), I now have a bruise on my shin. So, lesson learned - put things away, bearsome!
PS Welcome, buttercup! We're very into encouragement here - just let us know when you need an extra 'shove'!0 -
Welcome aboard the Good Ship Messy, Buttercup! Wonderful how motivating a bit of sunshine is, well one!
Bearcub - at least you managed not to break the mirror. Not that I`m superstitious, but it`s so nasty having shards of broken glass to clear up, so look at it that way, you saved yourself a nasty job!
I just nipped back to say I`ve used lobbers to cut down a giant Dock plant that is like a small tree, I`ve done the chin-plucking AND Daftie-dogs` toenails, both done in record time. It`s still quite early, I thought I`d have less time to do stuff. Two things have been done that I`ve been procrastinating for a bit now (yesterday`s freezer lid job & today`s dog manicure.) That is a definite `feel-good` booster.
I`ve got a yellow cotton floor rug that needs a bit of repair/darning, getting worse with each wash. That`s another procrastination biggie. I`ve sat and looked at the ball of matching cotton yarn (on LR windowsill) for weeks. I am now going to take the lot outside and make a start!!!
Am I on a roll too, perhaps?0 -
You're right, of course, Emms, about the glass, and it's especially nasty when you have animals about. So it's your turn to have sun today? Enjoy! There were huge black clouds around here yesterday and, apparently, the thunder and lightning over the Solent towards the New Forest was quite a sight, but we never lost the sun here.
I've taken the duster out of its hidey hole and have dusted this room. The LR is next.0 -
Why OH Why do I leave things to the last minute?!
Thank you - I opened the windows and got rid of the rubbish like you said, then clothes mostly sorted or at least shoved in baskets! Lots of stuff in charity bag and bin - glad I will never have to deal with them again - throwing stuff away is rather addictive
Spent a productive hour sorting most of the living room - found the vacuum cleaner and it was so blocked up I had to take the whole thing apart - every detachable bit - to clear it - it took me 40 mins in all but on the upside - it sucks like a dream now lol!
Annoyed I lost 40 mins but have 45 mins before the school run, then got 2 errands to run which will take about an hour - then will have about an hour before visitor arrives!
It's not going to look great but will be a sight better than it was a couple of hours ago!Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

The thing is Frugal, you won't have to get back to the square one of today and the next time you work on your lounge it will be easier - the vac won't have to be declogged, the stuff that's been decluttered will never trouble you again and the other stuff can all be done in bits and bobs. If, when you get 15 minutes, you can remember to go back to the places where you stashed the stuff you put into baskets then that's a great thing!
Also, apologies, I should have said hi before just diving in. I've recently been on the hoarding thread. I'm a recovered hoarder and long time all round messy person. I've been working on it for 8 years and have had a no-more-than-an-hour-away-from-tidy house for the past 6 years. It's tough but possible *yay*. Pleased to meet you all.0 -
I have vacuumed and steam cleaned my living room carpet, and swept the laminate in the rest of downstairs. my excuse is I can't mop as I have ordered the £20 steam mop on the Grabbit board (has excellent reviews). I'm hoping it will make me clean a bit more although thinking about it that's unlikely.....
However on the plus side my house is a LOT less messy than it was 6 months ago.
Still haven't tackled the Wardrobe of Doom though.
The time has to be right for these things and clearing out the garage for my big store cupboard order got in the way.0 -
Emm use bin bags or small boxes, lol.
Iv not done anything yet but will move myself soon. Oh has been unwell so the going out has been cancelled.
The sun is out for a second day. DD will be playing out as soon as she is home from school which is great. Made her tidy her bedroom yesterday although she tried her best to get out of it.
Ill look in later.0 -

Your advice certainly helped and got me started and you are right, the decluttered stuff will never give me trouble again! Thats how I have looked at it when faced with a "shall I keep it or chuck it" dilemma! Just chuck it and be grateful I will never have to worry about it again!
And re the vacuum - you are right - I can now have a quick vacuum every other day (or so!) so it will never get that bad again.
