My home is a mess

Afternoon Messies.
Emms, how horrible for you, with all that mess. We had a similar thing happen last year, when our drainage got blocked by a piece of brick. Before we'd realised what had been happening, stuff was coming back into the WM, and some clothes got ruined. Horrible! I hope the sludge gulpers have arrived by now.
FA, that's a very good item. I wouldn't dare push my faith down people's throats, but sometimes (only sometimes, notice!) the thought goes through my head, what does God think of me just sitting doing nothing? Mind you, our church leader pointed out to me last week that not all the time I spend on the computer is wasted time. Maybe he's right.
Still, I find this thread very motivational in itself, as Emms says.
Sonastin, making chocoalte brownies may not be de-messying, but it's possibly quite MSE!
No de-messying yet today, as we went into town shopping. Before that, I had a bit of a 'discussion' with Argos who, for the second time, couldn't deliver the conservatory chair that I'd ordered online for Mum. I ordered it on the 8th May, when they said it was in stock, and would be delivered in three weeks. Still not here, and we've cancelled. This is worth noting, if you order with them, and the site says an item is in stock, it doesn't mean that they have it in their warehouse, but means that their suppliers have it in stock. Be warned!
We've heard thunder, and there are black clouds about, but they seem to be skirting the west of the island atm, so I think I hear the garden calling!

Hello fellow messies.
I have a confession I have moved from a flat into a small 2 bedroom house and I am surrounded by packing cases. My mum is annoyed that I still have boxes to unpack (mum is my landlady:eek:) and those boxes that have been unpacked are hanging around like a bad smell. I have freegled said boxes and I am trying to find a home for things but it is kind of difficult when the kitchen is really small but the pantry is full (if I could get rid of her paintpots I would be able to cram more in:rotfl:).
I have been quite good and do try and unpack a box a day after all I only moved in on 30 June and by the middle of last week I had emptied around 30 odd boxes. I have made several trips to the charity shop so much so they make me a drink every time I turn up and have now started nagging me to volunteer there.
There are things to be done to the house and certainly to the garden which looks like a jungle but there is only me and I have been instructed to finish the unpacking before doing anything with the garden.
I have done two lots of washing today - this is necessary because I didnt have the means to dry anything at the flat so I let my washing pile build up a bit:o0 -
WOW!
Freezer lid closed properly. One bucket of chipped ice outside front door.
Sludge gulper has been, drains cleared in a few minutes. Perhaps they worked quickly because I`d opened the door with an old carving knife in one hand and a large chisel in the other...
Pots soaked & washed/dried/put away in record time.
Nipping out to Mr M`s now before traffic gets worse - my rat-tails just tied up, shower/shampoo later. Leaving farmshop till tomorrow. Buggritt.0 -

:rotfl: Very effective way of making sure people do their job properly, Emms. that, or scare them away never to be seen again!
Welcome, Horace. Shame your 'landlady' won't allow you to do any gardening, as a break from unpacking is probably the refresher you need. Whatever you do, don't let yourself be bowed down by pressure, as the whole thing will have you rebelling!0 -
Another day of not much from me
Put DW on
Cooked OH lunch
Made OH pack up
Squeezed into car to see midwife
Made myself a salad
Tidied kitchen
Put WM on
Done some jigsaw puzzle and now parked on the sofa drinking milkshake0 -
Sounds to me as if you're doing quite enough, gillybean.
What have I done? Hmm, minute amount of gardening - it's been a brilliantly sunny day, but very windy this afternoon. I rinsed out a top of OH's that smelled so stale, and I'd soaked in Biotex. Think that's worked.
I cleaned the hob and the adjacent work surface, cleaned the bathroom, including the shower. I cleaned a window in here, cos the sun was shining through, and it looked awful. And I've polished the dining room table, because that looked awful, too, and was way overdue a clean.

I hope people don't mind me stepping in here - I saw the title of this thread and thought 'That's me!'. Following a miscarriage and loss of job all within the space of 3 months, I developed depression and along with that came severe laziness
This created a vicious circle, as the more messy the house got, the more depressed I got, and the less things got tidied, etc.
Thankfully, despite it being a long road, I am recently having a lot less 'down days' and feel I am beginning to pick up health-wise. I want to make the most of this and hopefully keep the depression at bay by sorting the mess out that has taken over the house. But being home all day alone (while my fiance goes out to work) means I may end up lacking the motivation to keep going. I'd love if I can pop into here just for quick chats and updates with people in a similar situation
I've also taken a look at the Fly Lady thread (which pre-depression I used to follow anyway) and the 1 Bag a Month Challenge which looks like a good way of decluttering without getting too stressed from it.
Any further advice would be greatly appreciated

Welcome ScarletRaven the general advice on here is baby steps. My advice would be do one room at a time dont try and do everything in one go.
The four box methoud is really usefull, 1, to keep,two,donate,3, not sure,4,bin. Also make sure you have all you need to hand ie, binbags, cloths ect.0
