    Hi all :)

    You've been doing really well.

I...have been useless. Completely useless. There's so much going on at the end of term, AND we've had OFSTED, AND my parents were home briefly between holidays, so that took up yesterday. AND I just don't feel like it. I could sleep for a week, only I don't think it would even take the edge off...Luckily, I had a hospital appointment a couple of weeks ago, which would have picked up any nastiness brewing, so I'm fairly confident it's just end-of-term-itis. But tonight I've managed a couple of hours' gardening-the greenhouse is infested with whitefly :(, so I've been doing what I can. I hate spraying, but there doesn't seem to be much alternative. I've planted a marigold in each pot as well (supposed to repel whitefly), but I suspect that's just wishful thinking. DS and I put up a bracket to drape the thornless blackberry over, we've put in supports around the raspberries and planted the last of the courgettes/squash (the wind and rain have beaten most of the earlier ones to death, and this is our final chance.)

Feeling a bit odd on the messy front. Been to see my sister's extension/new kitchen (again-I think it's her third new kitchen in twelve years _pale_)

It's actually very nice. You can't really go wrong with white doors and granite tops. But her kitchen, never huge, now isn't much bigger than my utility room (she's lost a chunk of kitchen where the new "family room" joins on to the house), and I can't but wonder...where is all her stuff ? She's absolutely ruthless, of course-if it's out of fashion, it's out.

But, you know...I don't think I could live like that (even if I could afford it :rotfl:). I'm now asking myself-which of us is more materialistic? I cling to the belief that I need space for my randomly-acquired eclectic china and accumulated Le Creuset-she won't have anything in the house that's not shiny and new, or doesn't match .

(However, my choice is definitely more OS!! :D)

My SIL is a bit like this. But not only fashion - if its not needed any more, its also out. Even if its something she's borrowed from someone else  Have learnt to keep all loaned possessions in sight at all times in case they end up getting chucked once she's done with them. Of course B & SIL deny that they have been chucked but so many things are *lost* never to be seen again that we've figured its the only answer :rotfl:

Had a nice long walk down the nature trail to the next village this evening. Much better than de-messying :D

Laurel that sounds like my sister, the rest of the family actually take bets on how long it will take her to mention a brand name or the cost of something.

    I hope everyone is well.

1st hour, I have taken cups in to the kitchen and done the recycling.

2nd hour, Put straighteners and hair brush away that kids left out.
Took 1 minute, I'm struggling to get motivated today. I feel really flat for some reason :(

3rd hour, Made the bed, opened the curtains and put washing in to the laundry basket.

4th hour, I have washed the dishes, washed the worktops, and the hob.

5th hour, I have swept the hall and front froom and kitchen floors. I also spot moped the worst bits of the front room, it is over 23ft long and I don't have motivation to do it all at once.

6th hour, I brought the recycling bins in.

7th hour, I have got showered and dressed.

8th hour, I didn't think I'd make it today but I made myself. I have prepared dinner and put the wm on, my husband will get it out for me later.

OH opened the curtains and made our bed this morning :T

Trouble is I was still in it at the time  :rotfl:

For someone who is lacking motivation, you're managing to knock off an awful lot of tasks. You've managed more this morning than I've done all week. But in response to the inspiration, I'm going to make sure I put the recycling out tonight. Takes us months to fill the bin so we don't always put it out but I feel this is the week that it should.

You have just reminded me that mine is still outside after being emptyied this morning, that can be my next task to get it in. :o

I'm really having to force myself today though, I am far from wanting to anything.

I'll look forward to you posting that you have put yours out :T

    Morning messies.

Isis, I hope your journey goes well. I'm not a brave driver, either, so I can sympathise. We've lived here for nearly 7 years, and I'm still very reluctant to drive to town, a journey of around 12 miles and not exactly complex. Given that the IOW is so small, I can't get very lost, cos we're a bit limited as to how far we can go! :rotfl:

Sonastin, I had such hopes that you'd get going yesterday. Wanna push? ;)

Laurel, you, too, have my sympathies. One for working with kids at all, and two, for the OFSTED inspection. End of the school year is always chaotic, no matter what level the school is. I was support staff in a secondary school, and even we were nervous wrecks by the time the OFSTED inspection happened. It really shouldn't be that way. How did you and the school do?

Tbh, I can't be doing with people who constantly change things just for the sake of it. Of course, it's upto each individual as to how they spend their money but, honestly, if you spend on changes like that so often, I can't help but feel they should take a look at others considerably less fortunate than themselves. If I've offended anyone, my profuse apologies.

Soworried, you have depression, so you're going to have low days. You've started on the road to recovery but, being realistic, it's going to have a few bumps. Your progress, though, is generally forward, so you'll be fine because you are still 'doing'. <hugs>

Today, apart from mucking out the stables (OH had a GP's appointment), I've folded and put away the washing that was drying in the conservatory, put a load in the WM, and cleaned the bathroom. I have to pick up Mum from the hairdresser later, but I hope to be able to wash the kitchen and bathroom floors while OH is at the yard. No point in doing it while he's here, because I can guarantee he'll decide he needs a cup of coffee.

Erm...a few years ago, my s-i-l and I might, after an entire evening hearing about the polished limestone floor in my sister's then latest kitchen, have asked whether she had any interests other than what she'd most recently bought.

She has rather pointedly NOT told us the price of anything since.
But we bought our houses the same month, with, weirdly, exactly the same mortgage (very different deposits), save that she works for a bank and her interest rate is tiny. My mortgage was paid off years ago, and hers...well, I actually think it might be bigger than when they started :(. Conspicuous consumerism comes at a price. :/

Interesting isnt it, I used to feel embarrassed about my house because it needs a bit of money spending on it but now it doesnt bother me as much. Maybe thats because I am getting older and wiser or because my priorities have changed. I think we all know someone who has to have the latest thing though!

Keep going SW, you are doing great and we are all allowed off days.

The pie last night was lovely, hubby was late home but it was still edible for him. Well actually I think he was so hungry he would have eaten anything but still!

Been to my sons last every sports day at Primary school today - and it poured down! Nice afternoon though and Mum and Dad came along too so it was nice to catch up with them.

Off to go and get tea on the table now - and lots of wet washing to sort out - great British summer eh?

Iv never been materialistic but have looked at other peoples houses and wished mine was as perfect. Now I look at the amount of debt they are in to acheive this and think Im glad that my home is still evolving.
Yorkshire lass its better to pay as you go and sod anyone who looks down their nose at your home.
I cleaned up the downstairs and stairs and landings yesterday. Iv yet to do anything today.
On the perfect home I was talking with my neighbour who said she was in a debt managment plan and was finding things a struggle. I pointed out ways we save ie , buying second hand where possible, car boot sales, ebay and reduced groceries. It turns out she had not thought about doing this and was really shocked that she hadnt.

Messies, I have a confession to make.

There is so much carp piled on my bed that this morning I woke up with a nail file in my knickers. Yes, the ones I was wearing. No, I'm not quite sure how it happened. I was asleep at the time.

My bedroom has become the house dumping ground again, and I need to do something about it :o
