Evening Messies.
Oo, nasty experience, Snookey, something I've experienced, too.
Sorry you felt poorly earlier, Cat, but it sounds as if you're achieving, little by little.
Our jasmine covered arch was quite pretty, until it got too heavy and nearly came a cropper. It's a beesianum (perfect for Emms!), a pinky red tiny flower, and it shares the arch with a honeysuckle. Unfortunately, since we replaced the arch about 4 years ago, when we cut both plants hard back, the jasmine hasn't been pruned, although the honeysuckle is pruned ever year. The arch cost a fair amount, took ages to find (because it's narrow), and it's concreted in place, so we really don't want it to fall to pieces.
I had a sudden clear-up this afternoon, changed all the towels, sorted, folded and put away washing, and tidied up paperwork. Then I took everything off the computer desk (and there's a lot of 'everything'!), dusted and polished the surface (had to get OH to hold the printer while I cleaned underneath), and put everything back nice and tidily. I got carried away, and took duster and polish onto our bedroom, and di all the surfaces in there, too. I must be careful I don't get these urges too often!0 -
wow bearcub, what a super-productive day!
Oh I LOVE honeysuckle!! Why on earth has that almost made me cry???? I think it reminds me of my two great aunts, or more specifically their garden, which brings back a lot of happy memories of my childhood holidays. Although they have both passed away now, when I go on holiday now and pass their house, I always feel so fed up that I can't knock on their door and ask the current owners "excuse me, would you mind if I came and sat in your garden for ten minutes?":o
Does anyone else feel like that about a house or garden?0 -
No, Cat, simply because my family, on both sides, were Londoners. I was brought up in south Greater London, and the family house ie OH, me and the Ds, was in Surrey. Even if we went to see DD2, we have no reason to go anywhere near either area.
As for the clearing up, I have to be honest and say that our bungalow is tiny, and we're both retired, so we generally don't have a lot of cleaning/tidying to do. My craft materials do tend to accumulate once I get them out, and OH is dreadful at cleaning up after he's cooked. Mind you, I'm so grateful that he cooks our meals, because I find it very boring, that I can't blame him for being a super-messy.0 -
Morning All! Just had a quick read before dashing off to work (last shift then a week off! Yippee!) Just posting quickly to answer Cat - main Outpatients dept, reception, or does your hospital have a `League of Friends`? The last one might be best for distributing the mags around various clinics/waiting rooms.

Hello all - sorry I have been reading and running this week. I'm fair exhausted, and the weather doesn't help - it's gonna be a wet one, folks!
One plant in my garden is loving this cool wet weather, and that's the cardoons - they are doing a passable triffid impression at the moment! Much bigger than last year.
Oh and talking of honeysuckle... hardly a flower at all last year and those that did show shrivelled up fast. This year the honeysuckles are loaded with huge flowers!
Hope everyone is well - wishing you all a lovely weekend whatever you're doing (even if it will be a bit damp).
Oooh a week off Emm! Hope the weather gives us a break next week to help you relax too.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

hey all
Not much to report today, except being angry at getting a letter from the school social worker saying she is going to come out and visit me on Monday about DS's attendance. Now, unless she is some kind of shaman I have no idea what she expects to be able to do about it. Besides, attendance is improving in line with the improvement in his asthma. But the bottom line is, if he is well enough to go to school, he will go, and if he isn't, he won't - same as it's always been.
Anyway she's not coming because I phoned and cancelled but they said she would phone to rearrange. She can try......
Apart from that I've done quite a big shop at Mr A, finally bought some Vit D tablets, had a look in a DIY book about fixing taps (it's a start!!), and washed some dishes after faffing about boiling the kettle a few times. I'll probably go to bed after the football (go Sweden!:p) with the latest issue of Private Eye (I love PE:D)
Miserable weather isn't it jps?I too hope it improves for your week off Emm! xx

Our honeysuckle has more flowers this year, too, Jps, as have the roses. Some plants just seem to like the rain. Those poor people who boguht drought resistant plants!
Seems a waste of time the social worker coming to visit, Cat. If your DS suffers seriously with asthma, there's nothing she can do about it. Try not to get angry, try pitying her instead.Sounds as if you're making progress, just by planning to do stuff.
No de-messying at all today, just a bit of ironing. Too much faffing about with other stuff - I really don't know where the day went! OH had a good go at clearing up/out the garage, though, which had just got worse and worse with dumped junk. I'm out all day tomorrow, so another day without de-messying. Shame.0 -
I feel the need for another moan about OH - apologies if that's all I seem to do! Stuffed full of a cold at the moment. Had to actually stop on the drive home from work yesterday to close my eyes for 10 minutes because I was too tired to keep going. Got home and had to have a lie down before steeling myself to make dinner. Haven't been to work today because I still didn't feel fit enough to drive. Not only has OH done nothing to help - no cooking, no loading or unloading of the dishwasher - a couple of cups of tea during the day while he was making his own but that's about it - not only did he do nothing but I overheard him referring to the kitchen as a "sh!thole" when he went in there this afternoon. And he still didn't feel the need to unload the dishwasher and refill it with the carp that he was referring to. Had to summon the energy to do it myself so that I could make room to make dinner - yes I had to do that too! I was intending to leave it to see how long it would take him to do something about it but I caved when it came time to start cooking. Should've made him go out for a takeaway but I've been doing so well meal planning that I'm blowed if I'm going to let a little cold disrupt that!
Fortunately, dinner on tonights meal plan was HM curry so I added extra chilli powder to try to clear my head a little. Seems to have worked a bit for the time being. I'm supposed to be out with Mum tomorrow night so want to be feeling well enough for that!0 -
I feel that way about my first garden, Cat.
My dad built the house I lived in when I was little, and my garden was an old Belfast sink under an ash tree in the back garden. This was long before using Belfast sinks as planters was fashionable, you understand. I wanted to take it with me when we moved, but I wasn't allowed.
The same family who bought that house (35 years ago) still live there. I live 200 miles away, so I don't pass the house often, but each time I do, I have to fight the urge to knock on the door and ask about my sink....import this0 -
Anyway, much like jps, it seems, I have returned to work no less tired for a week off, and have struggled to do anything else all week.
And now, on Saturday, with a daughter who has sweetly said she'll get the bus to work so I can sleep in, I've been awake for hours.
Go figure.
Anyway, today's job is to paint the old toy room (ceiling and walls), then do the woodwork tomorrow. This is not optional, as the carpet fitter is coming a week on Monday, and apparently skirting should have dried for a week.
Oh, and there's a bed in bits in the living room, an old mattress and a wardrobe in the study, all the spare duvets (which were stored tucked around said mattress on the spare bed) on my bedroom floor, and it doesn't seem to matter how many times I send DD to her "second" room to get it tidy enough to move everything back in, it never seems to be finished.
Good job the garage is too much of a mess for me to move into. The shed was tidy-but I gave that away. Maybe the greenhouse...import this0
