Anyway, whatever I've been doing, it's taken all day. So it must have needed doing.

Love that - I say that to myself too. And yes maybe you should take a leaf out of your friends book. I remember when my SIL said she sometimes goes for a leisurely soak in the bath in the middle of the day and I just looked at her stunned. I cant imagine ever having the time to do that.

Well the day out with Mum has been cancelled and I am secretly a little relieved because I have so much to do before we go away next week. I must get the bedding planted that my Dad gave me or they will die while we are away. I might just make the garden a priority for today.

And yes Sonastin I admire you. Our half decorated landing and stairs is bad enough and I really dont think I could cope with living in a renovation project!

Right need to get a move on its half nine and I am not even dressed yet!

Morning messies, bedroom still nice and clean and tidy but rest of house =

Family duties have been postponed till tomorrow I think, so as I'm ready to go out of the house anyway, I'm going to replenish my cat litter stocks and go round the Charity Shops.

See you all later, have a great day whatever you're doing!

It is a massive renovation project but fortunately the layout of the house means that we're not living in the building site. We've basically got a "flat" in one corner which is shut off from all the construction mess and dirt. First job last year was to build a garage/workshop for OH. This year is downstairs - the flat was extended just before easter when OH got the new kitchen finished and hopefully come the end of this year, we'll have the whole downstairs complete apart from the main bathroom (aka store room!). Next year will be upstairs - its a bungalow with a bodged loft conversion so OH will be converting it properly - at the moment its a loft accessed by a proper staircase!

Biggest problem is that we've got about 3 houses' worth of possessions (mine, his, inherited) squished into a tiny space to leave the work areas free for work to happen. We're planning to get married when the house is done and we've been joking about having a "reverse wedding list" - here's a list of the carp we've got too much of... each guest needs to pick something off the list to take away :rotfl:

The only way its possible is because OH works full time on the house. And I've become addicted to MSE while trying to work out how we survive on my wage alone. If he had to do paid work while trying to do the renovation it would be a definite No Go. I have NO idea how anyone does any DIY around full time work (and I count caring and raising children as full time work in that statement ;))

Sonastin - a friend I knew at college many years ago lived in a converted saw-mill. Her earliest memories were of moving out of one habitable corner of the building to another, her mum `living on her nerves`, hardly ever seeing her dad (though she could hear building noises that proved he was there somewhere)...AND having 2 baby brothers while the work was in progress. It was lovely when it was all eventually finished, but just how her mum survived it beggars belief!

    Messy status?
Today I have poo-picked. (there was a lot)
    Been shopping & put away.
Very basic kitchen tidy/wipe. Not looking at the floor. It`s raining, so no point considering washing it, nor doing garden stuff.
Am now cooking a YS duck that I thawed yesterday for some freezer space, will do a green pepper/noodles/black bean sauce effort with it later.
OH has suggested another outing (pub again!! Early evening slot. YES!)
Now off to shower/wash hair while duck in oven.
Might chuck some uniforms in WM later - not much other washing needful as we`ve lived in them and `old baggies` lately, and DGD is at other Grandparents this week.

I`m always admiring (and a bit envious) of Messies who have managed to get something done, and look forward to being able to announce I`ve done more than `basic tick-over` stuff...I`ve got a week off coming up soon, just have to get through this week and next. I`ll have a list of jobs by then, and maybe get through half of them!
    Have a good day Messiesxxx
    Drags self off to shower...

    Hello Messies _wave_

I am back! I have been MIA in the chaos in my house - finally dug my way out and thought I'd best get back on here!

I seem to have woken up properly from my winter SAD and PING.... I can 'see' the mess that I didn't seem able to see before! So, I have been able to tackle it bit by bit... Long way to go but am looking forward to reclaiming my house!

Those hoarder programs have helped a lot too - Stelios has a good approach which is helping.

It is my intention to have the house finished/respectable by the beginning of the schoool summer hols so we can enjoy a social life properly again!

Looking forward to catching up with you all again xx

    Hi Frugal!!! :j

Well, it's getting on for six and I have done nothing.

Nothing that is, besides tutoring, choosing and ordering a carpet, then going back to the shop to order a replacement inset doormat (ours is worn almost to the hessian in places), joining a long queue at the bank to pay in cheques, a supermarket shop, a trip to the builders' merchant to bring home the bricks I need (hopefully the last), writing up some holiday work I now have to drop off at a client's house, and, oh, I forgot to get the weed control fabric and bark chippings.

And the plasterer is here tomorrow, the carpet-fitting schedule needs me to decorate this weekend and I haven't had a break this holiday yet. I'm such an idiot sometimes.

I think I need to draw up a timetable. And it will have REST marked in.

But now I'm out to drop off the holiday work and visit the DIY store. I know how to live! Is it the summer holidays yet?

    Evening Messies.

Good to see you, Frugal, and very good to hear that you've risen above things, even if you've not quite risen above the mess - but that probably goes for most of us on here.

Lauel, I just love your comment on what you have/haven't done today. :rotfl: We have a small garden, too, but it's lot more time-consuming than the large one we had at our previous house, because it has a lot more borders - front and back. We're going for the cottage garden/wildlife touch. That way, we feel we can get away with almost anything and, because we have guinea pigs that really need to graze, the grass doesn't get cut too often. :) Yes, 'rest' definitely needs pencilling in somewhere.

Sonastin, it must be nightmarish at times in your house, especially with all that 'stuff'. We have a tiny 2-bed bungalow, and I have to work really hard at not keeping stuff we don't need, or even want. That even applies to my craft supplies, so I have an annual clear out, and that's tough. :(

Your duck dish sounds very tasty, Emms. I'm very fond of duck, and our local just happens to do a wonderful crispy duck salad. Never thoguht of doing a duck stir-fry, but why not? Must keep that in mind! Some of us have a lot more spare time than you do, in which to get jobs done. That doesn't necessarily mean that we actually get anything done, though! ;)

Blimey Laurel, I felt tired just reading that never mind doing it! A successful day for me - all the bedding is in, the rain is doing a nice job of watering it and so long as I can keep the slugs at bay its going to look lovely.

Lots of weeding done too so it should be good until we get back off our hols. Hubby has promised to mow the lawn for me before we go with his big petrol mower so I dont even need to worry about that.

Tomorrow I need to start getting the house in order but the kids were getting a bit bored this aft so I may also have to think of something cheap and cheerful to do with them. Oh and its supposed to be raining tomorrow too. Going to put the ironing away now and drag DS2 away from his book and into the bath!

Good to see you again Frugal! :j

Just about washed the dishes (but made more getting tea!)

Had a wander in the garden during a sunny spell and... the foxgloves are coming out! :T

Saw a really good greetings card earlier today... it said "It's no fun having nothing to do... the fun is having lots to do and not doing it!" Ahhh so true :D

I'm off for another stare at the foxgloves now
