Emm I so understand about the work politics, education isn't much better than health when it comes to colleague stress and infighting.

As you say, a job is a job and I am so grateful to have a job that I enjoy... I have been unemployed, despite being very well qualified (I am not good at selling myself and have never had anything remotely resembling career aspirations) so however bad things get at work, I can put up with it.

Yorkshirelass, I hope whatever you decided on was a great day. I am with you duvet-day guys! I gather up my cheesy dvds, a couple of fleeces, a hot water bottle, lots of unhealthy snacks and curl up with the cat in front of the TV! Now, that sounds like a plan for tonight... :D

Messy status report here: Oh dear. Never mind, it can wait. I'm sure it won't take long when I get round to it

The duvet day was a brilliant idea, however I think we are all going to be cooped up in the house tomorrow looking at the forecast so we decided we should go out.

Got wrapped up and went to the coast. It was absolutely freezing - and strangely very busy. We did have a good day, although we ended up in a cafe for a cup of tea and a bun which wasnt really planned. I also bought DS2 a couple of things he needs for his school trip next week but overall it was a cheap day.

I am really tired now, everyone else is watching telly and I could sneak off to bed. Might just go and get my jim-jams on!

YL, what about a DVD and PJ day?

We do this occasionally, last time was in February, we spent the day camped out in the living room watching Doctor Who, a children's film we all wanted to watch & a Brian Cox program interspersed with playing board games, meals didn't really happen - with exception of breakfast after that we snacked manly on fruit and cheese & crackers and obviously popcorn (home made). A very cheap and enjoyable day as all the food and games already in the house, most of the watching courtesy of iplayer and the film borrowed from the library.

No chance of sleeping now, the birdies are singing their hearts out in the trees outside and I am not the least bit tired. More coffee I think.

Back in my student days, I managed to turn myself totally nocturnal (lectures? what lectures?!) Even to this day, hearing the birds singing is like a lullaby to me - sign that I really should be going to sleep now. Never have understood those folks who say they get up with the birds :rotfl:

Emm - chin up and focus on what you want out of the job. Don't let everyone else's need for you to be the cheerful one put you under pressure to keep their spirits up. If the situation is making you miserable, focus on the patients and their visitors, not cheering up your colleagues. They are grown-ups and need to figure out how to cheer themselves up! I'm sure you're doing that anyway but a 2penneth of egg-sucking lessons doesn't go amiss sometimes!

Had a very pointless day today. An event that we organised was completely scuppered by the weather. I can't blame those folks who didn't show because I wimped out early doors myself. We planned a supper for those folks staying until tomorrow but as the only people staying were friends, I couldn't charge them for the supper so its coming out of my grocery budget. Don't begrudge that because the friends are all so generous and giving but it was a bit of an unplanned spend. Well sort of. There's loads of leftovers which will be of use. So once you take out what I would have spent on our share, and what I save by making leftovers, it probably balances out. But it's disrupted my meal planning for the next week!

On a messy-status front, weekend is completely wasted. I knew nothing house-wise was going to get done because the weekend was dedicated elsewhere but today, it really didn't need to be. Hopefully, if the weather forecast is right, we'll call it a day early and I can get the bathroom cleaned. If the forecast is wrong, the weekend won't be a complete right-off so it won't matter that the bathroom hasn't been cleaned.

OH is falling asleep on my shoulder now so I think I'd best put him to bed.

Night all - even though the birds won't put me to sleep for a good few hours yet;)
  • I haven't posted for a while, mainly because I haven't been de-messying! Hugs to everyone who is worrying over stuff at the moment.

I never have much time for demessying during the week due to work and so usually do most of it at weekends but the last two weekends I've done a car boot sale and a table top sale with my sister. It's been really fun. My Dad recently went into a home and so we've been selling stuff from his house which is now on the market. This weekend I also sold a few bits of my stuff so you could say I've done a bit of de-cluttering. The problem is that my sister took back half of the items that didn't sell to her house and I've got the rest! We will do another car boot in a few weeks' time but in the meantime I've got to find storage space. Currently boxes are in the study and I've asked the OH if he can make some room in the garage for them.

I'm off to an indoor shopping centre today for a couple of hours or so and so no de-messying planned. The weather isn't helping me as the rain demotivates. When the sun shines it charges up my batteries and there's no stopping me!

    Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone, hope I am okay to join you-have been reading this thread with interest and have finally decided enough is enough.
A little bit about me and how my house has become such an effort...................
We bought this house( 4 bed Victorian ) 5 years ago and moved my mum in woth us due to her health probs. I work full time and hubby was house hubby but worked a few shifts around my shifts, and also looked after kids and Mum.

Unfortunately around 4 yrs ago hubby got ill and is now disabled so I had to reduce my hrs so I could be at home more .

Late last year things got bad with my Mum and she has been diagnosed with dementia and ended up in a nursing home ...... so things have been pretty stressful of late.

We are just about managing to stay afloat money wise etc but I am just so stressed out with the amount of housework to do! Its never ending, the kids help when asked, which is a bit hit and miss and hubby does his best..............but its a big old house and we rattle around in it.

So thats about it, so will continue to read this thread and if there is any tips/advice you can give me too that would be great:D

Welcome Limana! I'm afraid I'm a very bad example so I can't offer much in the way of tips and tricks, except to say I'm a lot happier since I accepted that there's only so much I can do, and rather than stress about mess, I make time to relax and do things I enjoy.

Many people swear by "baby steps", "little by little", etc. but I work in education so I tend to let it all go to pot, then blitz it on the holidays. Trouble is, I usually have to spend at least a week recharging my batteries, so if I don't do it in summer, easter or christmas hols, it never gets done - hence my STILL half-painted bedroom

Anyhow, whichever way you find to cope, you'll always be welcome to pull up a dust bunny and have a good natter on this thread!

Limana welcome. Your home sounds like mine. Ours collects dust and all you seem to be doing is cleaning. My OH is also disabled physically but I am mentally so we are a right pair.
I went out yesterday and got another mop the rubber ones with a roller. With all the hairs off the animals its a godsend. I go through thease mops at the rate of knots.
Im not planning on doing a lot today apart from the washing and tea as Im in a lazy mood still.
Cats and dog all deflead and wormed yesterday apart from one cat who run and hid. I was getting bit by the nasty bugs but nobody else was. Cats coats were free of them so must be hitching a lift until they find me,lol.
Its pouring down here and some rain has got in through the top of a window in our room. Stupid double glazing that was done about 14 years ago and was botched.
Look after yourselfs and rest its Sunday.

  • Hi Messies! Thanks for the encouragement & support - it really does help.
Work was quite a bit better last shift - and I was given a poem by an elderly patient yesterday. He had written it for me, it`s quite personal, in the form of a prayer, and it really hit the spot.
HUGS((())) to everyone, especially those demotivated by weather!

Limana WELCOME! I live in a dusty house too - both front & back doors face same way, and dusty gusts blow in whenever there`s a breeze - plus I don`t dust the place that often....
    Footymadgal - welcome back.
Kitty - you must be a lovely cheerful neighbour, I bet your old lady loves having you help her.
Snookey - pain bout the parasites! Once you`ve got the present lot shifted I`d advise keeping on top of things with the `spot under the collar` treatment, those are brilliant!

    Messy status report -
Had a little lie-in, then nipped to farm shop ( a squeaky fresh cauli and some big mushrooms wanted to come home with me today. Have sausage & bacon so will concoct mealplan later...)
Then did a MARATHON in the kitchen (seems there`d been a dirty pots amnesty yesterday while I was out...)
LR looks a bit burgled, but OH is off early so wants to take me to the pub this evening, Bless`im....
PLAN - shower & shampoo (am not presentable even to be seen in Tesco`s like this!!) then a busy flit round LR while hair dries...

    Drags self off to bathroom....
