Nice to see you back, Messy Mare.:j

And glad you had a good time, Kitty.:)

I lost the morning to a first-lesson-free client, then (again) to my regular mess-me-about tutoring client (who finally decided she really wanted to cancel...saves me having to do it), then felt the desperate urge to shop for a pond net and patio brush. (sign me up for the distraction outings club :p). So it was 2pm before I started. But more gardening today...more soil shifted...all my trees are FINALLY in (whew)...need to finish digging and levelling the circle tomorrow, but there's very little to that. The washing line poles, which have been sitting in the garage since Christmas, are in the back garden and unwrapped. They seem very tall-I thought they were seven feet but I think they're pushing eight(!) but after that I'm done with holes...hopefully for a long time.:T

Shirts...still on ironing board . Me....cream crackered. But sort of in a good way.:)

    Go for it, Teebird :)

I'm one of those people who like to approach scary projects obliquely...do a bit and scuttle off...sneak up on the mess when it isn't looking...that sort of thing. And coffee breaks are a must. :D

(But never underestimate the magical power of the Black Bag :p)

Ahhhhhhhhh time for a fresh rant.

I can't live like this anymore. I even have silly thoughts of leaving OH to get away from all his clutter.

What's the point in me cleaning etc. when there's so much clutter in the house there's nowhere to put anything away?

Any storage we have is taken up by OH storing utter crap. Wires/cables/plugs/dead batteries/out of date leaflets/magazines,old doorknobs, rusty screwdrivers, 10 year old CDs, a 5ft fishtank on my kitchen table (yes, really it's been there for 2months. Now my 16month old is used to eating in front of the TV and the last time we sat down at the table as a family is a distant memory), 2 broken hoovers (and I still don't have one that works), old pictures/decorations, pieces of wood?, old coats, stuff for the car etc. Our hallway hasn't been decorated since we moved in over a year ago and the carpet is horrendously old and ripped.

I don't know where to start! I've been so frustrated with it the past week that I've lost motivation to do ANYTHING and the house is an absolute tip. Add pregnancy, a grumpy toddler, working, no money and it's just awful :-(

What the point in tidying my living room when it still looks a mess cos I have no hoover, the display unit is cluttered with rubbish and CDs.

    I give up!

Had OH grumping about all day on Saturday because the stuff he had in "storage" in one of the unused rooms in the building-site part of the house has started to go mouldy. Cue severe lack of sympathy on my part because
    a) I've already resigned myself to a load of my stuff being ruined in the damp loft,
    b) I wasn't the one who decided we could live without proper heating through the winter,
    c) I'm pretty sure I suggested putting his stuff in the "old bathroom" (with tiled floor and walls) but he decided it was easier to put it in the front room (with the leaky chimney and wallpaper that had been there when other rooms were mouldy so probably full of spores) and
    d) I'm pretty sure I suggested he did something about the leaky chimney when it was easier to access before the garage was built but he wanted to just get on and get the garage finished so its now twice as hard to fix the leaks and dry the room out!

Mouldy room is now empty and wallpaper stripping has begun. Tip visit completed Sunday morning with OH saying goodbye to a load of his junk so mood has improved somewhat. Sunday was spent digging the garden pretty much along the lines of Laurel7172's efforts - circle is now level, edge being concreted tomorrow and *fingers crossed* rotary washing line will be planted by the end of the week. Muscles far too stiff to do anything productive today though!

    Afternoon messies.

Big hugs to all, those who are feeling depressed, whether it be something you've a tendency to, or because of your surroundings.

Well done, laurel! :T Will you need a stepladder to hang the washing? ;) I imagine you're feeling a lot more positive now so much of the garden's done.

mm21, I feel for you, I really do. Although I'm not in the same situation as you, I've known a couple of people who've had to put up with hoarders. I wish I could give you some advice, but all I have is <hugs>. One thing has occured to me, though. With such a young child about, and another on the way, a health visitor would have a fit, because it sounds as the situation is potentially dangerous. Is your OH aware of this?

Sonastin, at least work has started, which is something to be thankful for. Did I know that you were doing a major gardening project, too? Hmm, can't remember a lot of the time who said what <rolls eyes>, but well done anyway.

It's just impossible to stay indoors when the weather is so good. I've spent an hour in the back garden. pruning dead branches out of our very large jasmine beesianum. Think I've probably got loads of bits in my hair - I certainly got some in my eyes.

Indoors, I've done one WM load, which has nearly dried outside, washed the kitchen and bathroom floor, cleaned bathroom and started to clean the kitchen worktops. The last will be finished when I've been over to Mum's to give her some news.

:D I'm thinking I need a DEEP hole for the poles...

I've finished digging out the circle, pollinated the apricot and peach, dried last night's load, washed another...oh yes, and detoured on the way home to buy some polish for the brass on the front door. This would be...umm...the first time ever I'd polished it, if I actually had yet ;).

mmummy21...it's time for drastic measures. Couldn't you carry a box of tat past that dratted fish tank and accidentally drop something heavy? Or, less likely to cause a row, do you have a garden you could dump it in, or a friend with a garage who would take pity on you?

Sorry, it sounds like it must be so hard :(. But if you've got to the point of desperation where you're considering a "Me or the junk" ultimatum, have you thought about Relate? Sometimes it takes a neutral zone to remind him a skip is cheaper than a divorce...

Don't think I've mentioned the gardening project because it was a bit of a surprise to me too! We are about 10 months into a 3 year renovation project which involves remodelling the entire property - house, garden, drive, everything. OH has given up work to do it and we've got a "flat" in one corner of the house so its not quite as daunting as it sounds but I thought this month was largely focussed on the kitchen. I suppose it makes sense that we start on the garden so that he can get some plants into it this spring rather than wait till next year but I wasn't expecting it!

I know exactly how you feel - I get OH moaning at me for the "flat" being untidy but then I get told off if I move any of his stuff. Even straightening the piles of carp so they look nicer has resulted in a rant because he can't find anything! I went to tidy the living room on Sunday because we had some guests round but I realised that none of it was my rubbish so I just abandoned it where it lay. Lucky for me I'm way more tolerant of mess than he is but I just wish that he'd do something about it for himself rather than moan at me about it

On the plus side, I have to admit that a lot of that "might come in handy one day" rubbish that he hoards does actually have a useful function and he has saved a fair bit on this renovation project by keeping so much "tat". Admittedly he had to start the project by building a double garage to put it all in and even that isn't big enough to hold everything though :rotfl:Anytime I complain about his rubbish, I get reminded of all the useful bits-and-bobs he's managed to pull out of the pile.

But this weekend I discovered a secret weapon... next time he accuses me of holding onto rubbish while claiming that his is nothing but useful stuff, I'm going to pull out the sony walkman I found in his "electrical bits and bobs" drawer. Before I embarras myself competely - can anyone give me a useful reason to keep a walkman in this day and age? Particularly as one of the things he made me throw out was the box that all my cassette tapes were festering in?! :D

Er, no. A walkman is only any good for tapes. No tapes, no need for a walkman, I'd say.

A renovation project, and how! I greatly admire you. Are you or your OH in one of the trades eg building? My dd2 and her OH are looking for property to renovate, as he's a plasterer/builder, and his dad's a builder.

Kitchen worktops cleaned, washing up and recycling put away. The kitchen looks so much better. It's minimal compared to what some of you have to put up with, but I do wish OH wouldn't leave coins on the worktops. I'm not a Food Hygiene fanatic by any means, but money, for goodness sake!
