Bless me Messies for I have fell off the wagon and managed to make my house a bit more presentable than it was....;)
It all started about 2 weeks ago when I finished work for Xmas :j and decided that I could park the kidz with a DVD (or 2 - :embarasse ) and use the time to clean the kitchen... which i'll admit was honking. :o
then it sort of snowballed and HWTHMBO did the bathroom whilst I pottered around downstairs in the front room...:D
Then we put the tree up which invovled a lot of moving of furniture and the revealing of dust hares (like dust bunnies but way bigger!)...
We took the tree down yesterday and took full advantage of DS#1 being out at his mates house overnight (NYE party) and DS#2 playing out at his mates (due back after 2 hours) to clean the whole house.:j Beds were changed and laundry washed and dried. all vacuuming done.
Well, OK I still have to do the office (the small bit of the dining room that has the 'puter) and we won't mention the conservatory :embarasse which is the dumping ground for everything right now.
But as my new year's resolution I am going to try to list the eBay stuff one thing at a time (was going to say one thing a day but I think that's a bit too far) until it's all gone and I have enough money to buy some nice garden furiture with the proceeds.:T
AND whilst tidying my desk...I've just found the letter from schol that thanks me for agreeing to host a French exchange student! they're coming over the first week of February - don't think I'll EVER be ready for that.
I hope I don't get chucked out the Messies for my actions and I promise that by tomorrow you'll never even know the difference.
Still, it was nice while it lasted, eh?

    Take care everyone.
  • Greetings and a Happy New Year to all the messies.....:T Have been very busy over the past few months (no NOT house cleaning) so have not had a lot of time online.

House is, as always just this side of disaster, and I'm not making any resolutions for 2012 about sorting, tidying etc...

Since I joined this little group (now grown much bigger) I have continued in my small ways to improve my living area. There is less mess than there was, we now have a better organised kitchen, bathroom and living room (not perfect but then neither am I).

We are getting better at not hoarding as a family (apart from books which neither DD nor I can bear to part with). Our visits to the local tip with cr*p are getting fewer, at present we have a car load and only waiting for the rain to stop to get rid of this. :j

None of this would have started I'm sure had it not been for this thread. It came at the right time, with the support from people like me who lack the housework gene and domesticated one to boot.

Onward and upward ladies and gents - hopefully will be around a bit more again now...:)
  • Welcome back Soupdragon, and well said!
Welcome all new messies and returning messies - and if any messies are still lurking DO come on in but don`t look at the mess...
GreyQueen - I have been known to use custard powder to make gravy, but that`s not substance abuse!
FannyAdams - we have dust buffalos here - the bunnies mutated after we had laminate floors, thought they were on the open prairies and got bigger & faster!

Spice rack done & kitchen side sorted! I even had enough space to chop the vegetables on the worktop instead of having to put the chopping board on unused bits of the hob.

Oh dear, that's not really saying much, in a kitchen that's 12' x 15', is it... but I'm pleased with myself, anyway!

Hello everyone, and a Happy New Year :hello:

Oh dear, I haven't been here since page 186! :o Can I join you again?

I'm not entirely sure what I've been up to - the time has gone so fast. I'm trying to declutter first, so that I can actually clean more stuff.

I have decided that tomorrow I am going to tackle my back room! I've done some tidying away in there today, so that I can actually get stuck in.

I've got those french doors in there that have a million small panes of glass - seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm starting there. It will be nice to see the garden again! :o:)

Oh, Sceptre-I had sliding twelve pane glass doors between the kitchen and the hall, and the hall and the utility...I'm afraid in the end I decided it was less bother to rip them out and refit the units at that end of the kitchen than clean them (!) I might put a door back on the kitchen one day, but hey, open plan is in...

Welcome to all the new messies :) I am expecting a Chinese exchange student in one week, and panic began to set in some days ago....

I'm afraid my daughter has done something *dreadful* with that baking powder . Having thrown it down over spilled Coke, let it dry and hoovered it off, I'm afraid something went terribly, terribly wrong. Messies of a nervous disposition look away now....it left...a clean patch :rotfl: Good job I got my messy mitts on that carpet cleaner this morning. The house now smells (not unpleasantly) of wet wool, and though I can see every bit that pretreating and soaking and shampooing and scrubbing and pretreating and shampooing again hasn't shifted, I doubt anybody else can. Whew.

DD has finished the spare room-it looks great, and after I spent a couple of hours last night *and* this morning cleaning the concrete-like gunk off the bathroom wall with a wallpaper scraper, DS washed the rest of the bathroom walls for me. And we're now all sitting down watching Wall-E. ;)

It's a temporary respite, because I have visitors tomorrow-a friend I've known for years, but who hasn't been here before, and his new girlfriend, who I haven't met. God, I hope she's a Messie, because I still don't have those ceilings painted :D
