Morning all, and Happy New Year! Today's project for me is eminently manageable - declutter the spice rack! I know I'm going to be given loads of herbs & spices in the next couple of weeks, by a friend who's upping sticks & moving to Portugal to help her arthritis, and I do use them constantly; in fact whenever I go to Spain, which we do regularly, having family over there, I come back with a suitcase full of cheap juniper berries, cloves and all sorts from the street market. So I'd better clear some space & chuck out anything which has managed to stick around long enough to get seriously out of date. I know there are some, bought cheap when a local shop closed down about 4 years ago, lurking amongst the old lottery tickets etc. etc...Angie - GC Oct 25: £372.89/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

BBTHREE: that modus operandi sounds SO familiar, lol
Well, ladies, today I am on a mission. I'm afraid that yesterday I attacked my dirty living room carpet. I did not go out and hire a cleaner. Very MSE. I brought my own steamer down from the loft-it's a dust-mite killer (which I used to use daily to keep my carpets free of cat fleas  back in the days before the longer-lasting treatments were invented) not a cleaner. But it does loosen the dirt, especially sticky marks. Then I worked a whole packet of Dyson Zorb into the carpet (not THAT MSE then!) to soak up what it would.
And...oh my goodness....the steaming lifted stains deep within the carpet and it looks worse than ever :eek::eek:
So this morning, I got up and immediately started ringing around to hire a Rug Doctor. I had to step over sleeping teenagers to get the phone, and it seems at least one can of Coke has been spilled on the carpet anyway, so it's probably a good job it wasn't sparkly clean yesterday
Anyway, I thought they'd be booked up until February (New Y:jear resolutions and all), but I found a local shop with three machines *and they were all in*.:j
Messies, we are the silent majority. Out and proud in 2012! :rotfl:import this0 -
Oh, and Thriftwizard-I wondered why there were fennel seeds all over the worktop...until I realised the girls had spilled them while getting bicarb for the Coke.
Think my spice cupboard could do with some attention too!
(ETA: to soak up the stain, lol. I don't *think* there's anything weird and druggie you can do with baking powder...and it is on the floor)import this0 -

Tell ya, I'll never look at a tin of Birds the same way again.

Hello & Happy New Year again to all Messies. It`s lovely to have new & returning Messies here as well.
Reading here about carpet stains etc. makes me so appreciate changing to washable rugs in the LR. Now in daylight the clean rugs I put down yesterday look really nice & clean, & the `spare` pair I washed yesterday are nearly dry hanging over doors. I feel almost smug now...
One lot of next-door neighbours are moving in a few weeks - sad news. We all went outside after midnight, & I gave then a piece of coal - they`re going to take it with them for luck! My PC kept shutting itself down last night too, each time I put it on again it said it had overheated. Told DS when he phoned and he`s going to perform major surgery when he gets back. We ended up listening to CD`s on OH`s ancient ghetto-blaster, but it was cosy and fun and my beef curry was yum.
I`ve just re-checked my T*sco vouchers, and none expire till Feb, so no urgency to shop there.
Making a shopping list for M*rrison`s and trying to do a vague-ish meal-plan (to include OH Night shift snappins) but otherwise just having a gentle potter, planning an early night as we`re both up at 6 again tomorrow.0 -
