Just to delurk for a few minutes, when expecting our plumber a couple of months ago, I bagged/boxed my stuff up and put it out in the greenhouse :D DH had said he may want to go in every room
As it happened, he only went through the hall/lounge/kitchen but it was a nightmare scenario.

Listening to your stories about hiding clutter (I am the master of this) reminds me of the conversation I had with MIL over Christmas. Talking about ovens, she was in ecstasy with mine as it is eye level. Apparently this is ideal for her as she doesn't have to bend down to clean it. Clean it? I did remark that I never clean my oven, isn't it self cleaning or something?:D

Good job she knows I'm a messie :rotfl:

Love it that you shoved it all in the greenhouse! Hope the neighbours don't have a good view of all your carp in there! That would make a really good modern art installation at The Tate! :rotfl:

Agree with you re ovens - self cleaning, surely? Except for the glass - I clean that and occasionally change the tray that I leave at the bottom of the oven to catch any spills :D

I've been a lurker far too long. I'm up so late tonight, as we invited friends(earlier this evening) for dinner on new years eve, so I've got a massive clear-up to do! I've spent the last few hours tidying the dining room, last used on boxing day, but still seems to have misc wrapping paper, & bits of cracker lurking. Just did a "walk of shame" from the bathroom back down to the dining room & noticed sooo much dust, I'll be all morning clearing that. Our bedroom (which they won't see) is so full of boxes that we cannot reach the curtains to pull them without stretching over! Don't even want to mention other rooms of the house as I can match anything else posted on here! I'll post again once I'm over tomorrow night! Luckily the freezer is full of yellow stickered goodies I can use. Just need to wash the dishes & make sure the oven is not full of baking pans (where do you hide them, if the oven needs to be used?) - I think I'll put them in the garage - with the other stuff I dumped before Christmas:rotfl:
Will report back in 2012 - my new years resolution is to dig my way out of this mess:) DD.

    Welcome
Confessions - I really, really need to do some washing - DD has run out of knickers lol

    Helen x

Surely the shops are still open? I found 2 new packs of knickers for DDs that I had forgotten about. I bought them when they were running low and I cba to put a wash on :o

I am just catching up on this mornings posts, then I will be back to tell you what happened with the plumber :o:o:o

  • Oh there I was giggling at all the frivolity and saw your post MM. Sending you hugs. Have they dismissed you or made you redundant? If you have been employed for more than a year they need to have followed proper procedures and if they are dismissing you because of your health they need to have given you warnings first. Its such an awful thing to happen, hope you are OK.

I cant believe how much decluttering and tidying is going on. I cant be bothered to do anything and just feel like curling up in a corner and going to sleep. I am actually getting to the point when I will be glad when we get back into some sort of normal routine. I have managed to do some food shopping today and that was difficult enough.

Helen your post about your bedroom struck home with me. I hate our bedroom. We have a useless fitted wardrobe that isnt big enough so I can never get our clothes put away tidily. The carpet is hideous - think blue with pink swirls and pink flowers - and we have so much stuff under the bed its a wonder the floor doesnt give way.

I have actually been quite glad of the christmas presents piled up in our bedroom because it gave me an excuse for it being a mess! I also need a trip to the dump.

I really need to shift myself and take the washing out of the machine and put it over the airer. Sighs.

:) Afternoon messies, I'm a bit late out of the starting gate today due to being right poorly with a cold (the T Pratchett novel I was reading in my dressing-gown was purely medicinal, as was the chocolate, naturellment).

I've just had a quick snout at the Imperfect blog link and decided I like the idea of stashing the baubles in eggboxes and this will be stolen henceforth and deployed inside the ratty cardboard box labelled Xmas Decs. Amazing how many decades you can keep a lightly-used cardboard box in the loft.

I grinned a little at the news of the burglar (not in a malicious way) and of making excuses for the state of the place to tradesman. I once spent 18 months as a lodger to a busy Mum of 3 small children. Because I worked split-shifts, I was usually the one home when the meter-reading man came. Her meter was in the Cupboard of Doom under the very steep stairs, sort of in the acute angle behind the lowest steps, with the door at the tall angle and 3 cubic meters of tightly-packed carp between the door and the meter.

:o:p Naturally, being the lodger, I couldn't go pawing thru her things so it had to stay unread. Poor bloke got a bit exasperated by the 5th time he saw me but I could only shrug and say; "Sorry, mate, I'm just the lodger."

:DHey, evil thought, perhaps anyone could pretend to be the lodger in their own home and thus abdicate responsibilty?!

Laters, my lovelies, the butler is summoning me in for lunch.

As soon as I read the word "lodger" I had a lightbulb moment!!! I am soooooooooo the lodger, or a friend waiting in for a delivery or something! I am sooooooooooo not the owner for those circumstances anymore :T Thanks GQ!!!

:T Well done you! I might consider posting some pics soon, if only to give you all a good chuckle!

Anyone else dare to share with a photo?

Oh MM I am so sorry. They have done this because of your health? How dreadful for you... and what absolutely disgusting timing. Get straight onto the benefits board and make sure you apply for everything you are entitled to. As post before said, have you been there more than a year? If so you have loads more rights. Pls try not to feel too down (easier said than done I know)... Whenever friends/family have been made redundant/lost jobs (myself included!) we have found even better/more convenient/better paid/nicer people jobs so try to think "Every cloud has a silver lining" and all that stuff. It really can be a blessing in disguise, altho of course, you won't be able to see that just now. (((((hugs)))))

  • MessyMare -Big ((HUGS)) for the job loss, but don`t despair hun. Susan gave you best advice, get on to the Benefits and get help to sort them out. I wouldn`t know where to start but there are experts here who can help. And meanwhile start plotting all the positive things about not having to go back to your job. All the times you`ve thought `if I wasn`t working tomorrow I would...` My best friend has FM, she copes by making the most of the good days, and resting when she has to - whatever else is going on, it`ll keep!

Laurel - just to have ONE clear room...that must be so wonderful! Well done you!

Confessions - some more wonderful posts, thanks folks. I`ve just thought of one to share, though I`m now so used to it I`d not have thought of it but for the need to confess : I have refused a regular window-cleaner for YEARS now. I know I could close the curtains, but I`d have to spend the previous day clearing carp from 2 upstairs rooms just to get to the windows to do it!

Rummer - I always attempt to get tidy for new year too. (With varying degrees of success!)

Moneymaker - I couldn`t put stuff in the greenhouse, it`s full of vegetation that`s not supposed to be there (mostly thistles, brambles & plum saplings that keep sprouting back despite being hacked down when I get a garden-tidying fit.)

Today I`ve put away all the washing I did yesterday, been shopping & put shopping away, and done the local skip run. Poo-picked (Again!), brought some logs in, shaken woolly rugs outside & stashed in caravan to wash in a few days, (naughty, I know).
I`m now going to hoover & wash LR floor before putting the clean rugs down, make us a curry for tonight, and make a fire before I pick OH up from work at 8.
dragging self away from computer now...

MM - huge, soft, squishy hugs hun, sit down, have a cry, then a cuppa and then take a deep breath and get on the benefits board as others have alerady wisely suggested, it isn't the end of the world love although it does make you feel like crap but once you have a plan of action you'll feel loads better and we're all here for you x x

Done nothing and doing nothing - DH is doing my head in this afternoon!!!

There aren't many of us who don't have that threat hanging over us to some degree at the moment. Can't add any advice, but thinking of you xxx

My window cleaner deals with the carp issue by sympathising with me about how hard life must be as a single mum. Frankly, I'd rather he went for tactfully not mentioning it at all, which is why I send a child to the door with the money when upstairs has been particularly embarrassing...:o

  • Well, we've talked, and there isn't a pressing need for me to rush straight into a job. We'll have to cut back on the luxuries for a while, but while I'm not working, I can make the most of meal planning etc to get the cost of groceries down. Hopefully the house will be a bit tidier. Don't want to say too much about it as the walls have ears etc, but..well. It was unexpected, to say the least.

We've also decided...and it seems counter intuitive...that now is the time to start trying for a family. I'm looking to start my own business which market research suggests could be hugely successful (and it's all home working), and the main thing that's held me back from trying for kids is that I've always felt that I would feel awful taking maternity leave, and really wasn't comfortable with it. But...no need to worry. Apparently he has more spare each month than I know about! OH can manage the mortgage on his own, and the bills. He really wants me to go for it, he's been so amazing today. I am blessed to have him.

I'm mostly ok now. Still having zoning-out shock moments and little bursts of tears. But just got to keep busy. Never fear, not so busy that I join the flyladies :) Thank you so much lovelies, it means a lot xx
