Thanks, Buffy and Cat, and well done to those who have got stuff done today...

Frugal-he WILL have seen worse. Honestly. As it's confession week, I could admit that I was burgled five years back and the police might, possibly, have sympathised about the mess he'd left behind :o:o:o

    Allegedly :o

And, oh dear, the confessions keep coming. The bathroom that was really stressing me out was the family bathroom...there were streaks down the wall where the PVA had run while it was being skimmed.

It was only when I got up there that I realised they were (relatively speaking) CLEAN streaks.:eek::eek: And since they were thoroughly dried-on PVA, plus plaster splashes, its taken me all afternoon and five Brillo pads to bring the walls into a civilised state. There are two plastic crates of bottles sitting on the landing-much due to DD's bad habit of not using the last couple of inches in the bottle, but also due to my bad habit of not using the lovely bath oils and things I get given (only a shower in my bathroom). I think I'm going to have to throw the really ancient ones out...such a waste :(

Anyway...I do feel better, because I'm down to one major dumping room, mostly laundry (DON'T MENTION THE GARAGE :rotfl:) and though I do still need to paint the bathroom ceiling and fix a couple of tiles at the end of the bath, I know that that room is going to be cleaner than it has been...for years, probably :o

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:oh dear- I AM sorry you were burgled but that's hilarious!

When I HAVE to have workmen, meter readers etc in, I say "sorry about the mess, I'm just back from a few days holiday, this is what happens when you leave teenagers for a few days, isn't it dreadful, haha". I'm sure they never buy it....:o

Fellow Messies, I'm almost having to admit defeat tonight :( I KNOW I'm going to go to bed and be unable to sleep but I just can't seem to move to do anything....feel stupidly tearful about it, and all I need to do to cure that is GET OFF MY BUTT and get going but I just can't.....:( Tomorrow is going to be manic!

Ummm....I really, really don't want to sound b*tchy (i.e. I'm about to), but our imperfect homekeeper is a very poor photographer, and IMHO a happily creative house with children in it would probably have things they'd made on the tree...the best stuff is pictures of what other people have made.

Weren't you saying something, Frugal, about ideas/creativity and mess going together??? ;)

  • I`ve just come back to read again, and choking with giggles yet again!! Now Stoppit Emm (speaks sternly to self) Be Serious. Dragoncry, that woman can`t be Real - having so much space & time & funds for pretty storage carp - betcha she`s really an Alien! And Tylers` Mummy IS real, and did great...and squashing folks to get to the bargains is naughty but understandable...and feeling shifty at the skips when the attendants follow you round is Uncomfortable (ours is like that too, that`s why my triple-bagged stuff in boot is going in the `general litter` bin tomorrow at the un-attended supermarket skips! OK, it COULD go in my bin, but with a week or more till bins day it might attract too much wildlife...) And HOW can folks put books in a skip??
Next step is burning them, & you know where that leads...
    Anyway..
I`ve now got load 4 of washing hanging around, and WM loaded ready for morning. House smells lovely.
(by the way, I DO NOT DO IRONING. I DON`T BELIEVE IN IT! Need to iron is a MYTH!!)
I cooked a `need to use` small leg of lamb, and potatoes in with it under foil on low since late afternoon(with rosemary from garden that I cut after poo-picking earlier) with microwaved tired parsnips I found in fridge earlier, and remains of savoy cabbage steamed at last minute. It was all very nice, and adds to the nice smell. Had supper early as OH is up at 6 for work & now well asleep - I couldn`t turn in early as still shuffling damp washing around and the dratted cat was still unaccounted for. (She does this when DS goes away). Last seen on landing at 2pm-ish, with all inside doors wide open, everywhere warm and mostly dark, WAY too much carp she could roost on/in/under. Search would be pointless. Forgot all about her for a bit but thinking about locking up and all, went upstairs after OH went to bed, with a piece of warm lamb & whispering `psss` on the landing... I thought of my favourite `Just So` story by Rudyard Kipling - the Cat that Walks by Itself - when 2 yellow lamps approached, she ate the lamb out of my hand (never eats from hand unless DS is away) then followed me downstairs, ate 2 pouches of catfood, miawled at the backdoor, went out for about 20 mins then scratched door to be let in again and is now purring in front of the fire. I`ll let her stay in tonight, or i8f she wants food again I`ll give her another pouch then chuck her out. either way, the little furry things in the gardens will be safe tonight.

Still Messy here.(eg, still haven`t properly de-greased kitchen affected by deep-fat-fryer bubbling over lat night. Dealt with worst of it, but not happy till it`s thoroughly sorted)
    Nowhere NEAR tidy.
I accept that it probably never will be.
NO New Year Resolutions about it either. Been there, done that, etc. After what OH (yes, he IS an angel!) said today after reading some of your posts here, I realise that it`s not expected of me, that I do my best and prioritise so some stuff gets left - but the stuff that I DO do is appreciated. I can live with that. I shall have my little squawks when I get overwhelmed, I shall have my little bursts of carp- clearing and cleaning. But I`ll always be a Messy.
I found 2 packs of Brillo pads in my pre-Christmas caravan tetris. I remember buying them about 7 years ago before I was due a week off, and thought I`d have all my pans shiny like new. I`d still quite like to do that, but it`d be an all or nothing thing. Might do it early next year when OH is on nights...but I might not.
I`m just glad to be happy being myself, and that means keeping my folks clean-clothed & well-fed, shopping & cooking with love, doing a job I love and juggling other stuff and ok I sometimes drop an item or 2 as I`m trying to juggle but !!!!!!!
OK, I COULD do better. Sometimes I do. And sometimes I don`t.
OH said today I would have a lovely tidy house if it weren`t for the people in it, but that I`d only be miserable in a really tidy house because it isn`t Me. And I know he`s so right! Reading the posts here by other Messies brings that home to me as nothing else could.
OH didn`t mention the animals, but that`s the same idea. Think how much cleaner (AND sadder!) the place could be without the dogs/cats over the years, and think how badly all our dear departed household pets have been missed. Having them, loving them - well worth putting up with a bit more mess, wasn`t it?
We Messies should REBEL, ask ourselves what our true aims are. Minimalism & show-house blogs are NOT within the grasp of us folks whose confessions are posted here, though we can certainly get a bit more organised and prod each other into action. Beware of going TOO far, stressing about it and getting OCD.
Be who you are, and be happy.
Thankyou & Goodnight. That was my New Year Rant, a day early!

omg - I never thought of the garage - that makes 3 dump rooms I've got - oh dear!!!!!
Came on here and haven't stopped grinning to myself at all the hilarious posts - I know exactly how you all feel.
Frugal - don't worry about the plumber - my son is a plumber and he's never worried about people's houses - but then I'm thinking that might be cos he's got me for his mother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the midst of chaos to-day I've just finished re-upholstering the dining room chairs :p

I had to call the fire brigade a few years ago - long story and will post if anyone wants to hear it... anyway... they had to go in, rescue the dog and put the fire out.... needless to say I was on the doorstep apologising and saying "omg please be careful, don't fall over the mess! :o" Mortified doesn't even cover it but I did have twins of under a year at the time!"

I did that with the plumber last time he came... I said "I do apologise about the mess... I have split with my partner and come to a very small house from a very big one... I don't usually live like this" :o:o:o

Which, to be fair, is sort of true! The ex was very good at tidying after I went to bed with the little ones... I always said he would make a fantastic housewife :rotfl: Shame he was a rubbish BF!!!

    Well.... update....

I have tracked where he will go and the hall and stairs are now passable without being a mountain goat.... living room needs work, as does kitchen if (and he will) need to turn power off... I could offer to do that myself but he is a sweetie and will say not to worry, he will do it :o

So..... i've a bottle of wine... a little bit of enthusiasm and a lot to do! Have done a fair bit already but all that has done is made me realise how bloody bad it was before, as it looks little better despite my best efforts!

Thank goodness I got a MrT delivery today and had the sense to order black sacks!!! What I can't get done tonight, will get thrown in sacks into my bedroom (Richard Wallace I feel your pain) and even tho I will have to climb to get to the bed, at least I can shut the door when plumber arrives!

Oh sweet Geeeezuz this year my carp has GOT to be sorted!!

    :rotfl::rotfl:
Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

Curtain pole installed in the living room
    Paint curtain pole
Window quilts for landing window & french door
Add shrink film to the kitchen door & insulate
    Insulate front door
Bubble wrap windows & french door
    Wash front door curtain
    Blind for the bathroom
Find wrist warmers & the wool socks!

Just to delurk for a few minutes, when expecting our plumber a couple of months ago, I bagged/boxed my stuff up and put it out in the greenhouse :D DH had said he may want to go in every room
As it happened, he only went through the hall/lounge/kitchen but it was a nightmare scenario.

Listening to your stories about hiding clutter (I am the master of this) reminds me of the conversation I had with MIL over Christmas. Talking about ovens, she was in ecstasy with mine as it is eye level. Apparently this is ideal for her as she doesn't have to bend down to clean it. Clean it? I did remark that I never clean my oven, isn't it self cleaning or something?:D

Good job she knows I'm a messie :rotfl:

  • I've been a lurker far too long. I'm up so late tonight, as we invited friends(earlier this evening) for dinner on new years eve, so I've got a massive clear-up to do! I've spent the last few hours tidying the dining room, last used on boxing day, but still seems to have misc wrapping paper, & bits of cracker lurking. Just did a "walk of shame" from the bathroom back down to the dining room & noticed sooo much dust, I'll be all morning clearing that. Our bedroom (which they won't see) is so full of boxes that we cannot reach the curtains to pull them without stretching over! Don't even want to mention other rooms of the house as I can match anything else posted on here! I'll post again once I'm over tomorrow night! Luckily the freezer is full of yellow stickered goodies I can use. Just need to wash the dishes & make sure the oven is not full of baking pans (where do you hide them, if the oven needs to be used?) - I think I'll put them in the garage - with the other stuff I dumped before Christmas:rotfl:
Will report back in 2012 - my new years resolution is to dig my way out of this mess:) DD.

I know exactly what you mean.

We emptied the loft last May into our bedroom to sort all the boxes and most of the ones containing my childminding paperwork was still there two days before Christmas.I finished work and it was all moved into the playroom to be sorted and put back into the loft before I return to work.

It is all still there as I have been ill over Christmas but I now have three days to sort it all as IT WILL be sorted and put into the LOFT and not go back into the bedroom. As for the other two bedrooms laughingly called the study and craft room the least said about those the better
