    Good Morning All - I am a `domestic goddess`. That sounds good. :)

Made an attempt at removing the dust from our bedroom yesterday. Can`t believe I had to vacuum the dressing table  There was so much dust. Also so much clutter on there too.
Does anyone else have a bedroom like this?
Must wash the vases, ornaments and pitcher and bowl that are on there they are disgusting. Dressing table consists of two chest of drawers a corner unit an table top. That`s why I can fit so much on there.
The shelf behind the bed was also thick with dust and the lampshades too.
Living room is clean and tidy. It`s been so long since it`s looked like that I thought I was in someone elses home last night.
Also rediscovered a crystal bowl on the kitchen display unit. Was looking very greasy and dusty. Now clean, shiny and filled with pot pourri in the living room.
Baby steps are the way to go.

I have gotten rid of most of the ornamental things into cupboards or to car boot sales, as I was kidding myself on that they were ever going to stay clean. Now I just need to reclaim my surfaces from the general clutter that life throws at them.

I heard a story once about a lot of crabs washed up on shore and a young boy throwing them one by one back into the sea. A man came by and asked why he was bothering as he couldn't make a difference, there were so many. The boy carried on throwing them back and said "it made a difference to that one...and that one...and that one".

I must remember this little story when i do what seems like a miserly 15 minutes per day of decluttering as it really does add up to a less cluttered place over a period of time :A.

Re the spiders some of you are talking about (i said that quietly as i am PETRIFIED of them)

It reminds me that when I was a little girl, I thought that saying the word spider (or "araignee in my case!) would attract them en masse :rotfl:

    Not just the bedroom :o

I always vacuum dust, using the little brush. I found out that the dust actually disappear instead of landing somewhere else :) Yes, my house is sometimes so dusty that a simple duster can't do the job :o

Same here, although I actually keep things that have "a life": present, homemade things, second-hand items... I got rid of all my ikea-bought ornaments that I bought ages ago and do not really like!

I only work p/t Ellie, but I have a family and a dog as my other full time job and work as a voluntary counsellor for a women's health organisation. Lord only knows where I plan on fitting it in, which is why I need to get the house sorted! Its a second degree for me, I was at University when I was young, and so I need to make every minute of it count as I will be paying for it this time around :rotfl:

As I said earlier, I really admire mums! I have even trouble taking care of myself :o

OMG i can't believe it, one of my jobs today was to clean the bathroom, and because i had decluttered (thoroughly) and cleaned (thoroughly) last Wednesday it took all of about 5 minutes to do today, ok so i haven't cleaned the floor just yet but i cleaned the toilet, sink, bath, tiles, mirror ect.

Well i think there's only 1 thing i can say and that's thank heavens for this thread :A:D, it has actually encouraged me to pull my finger out and get some things done instead of just thinking about getting them done:rotfl::rotfl:, well it may take me months and months to finish all the decluttering but the baby steps are really working for me :T.

    Well done everyone :A:T

Most of the ornamental things I have in the house are special things. We have lots of crystal too but haven`t got room to display it all - lots of it are prizes that my DH and DS have won playing golf.
It`s a shame but some of it is hidden away in cupboards - perhaps I will start rotating it.

Will definately be vacuum dusting the bedroom weekly in future. The clutter will be removed and given a new home or given/thrown away.
There is an old TV on the corner unit. Haven`t watched it for years and don`t even know whether it is still working. That must go soon.

Why not make "soon", "today". Hark at me, giving advice :rotfl: I should listen to myself! :o

Well I managed to make more progress yesterday. I almost filled a bin bag with old tupperware/ice cream boxes and plastic sports bottles! How embarrassing is that. I didnt know we had so many sports bottles and half of them didnt seem to have a lid that fitted. Had to grit my teeth a bit when hubby saw the bag and started picking stuff up saying "whats wrong with this?". Have decided its best to get rid of it while he is out. In fact I am going to the recycling centre this afternoon.

On the subject of spiders I really want to move my fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer and give the utility room floor a good scrub. We get loads of spiders in there though so I am a bit nervous. I will be really honest and say I cant remember the last time it was all moved. I remember when I was little my Mum was always pulling out the furniture and cleaning behind it.

I have this idea of keeping a diary of when big jobs like that get done - then I can make a note of when to do it again. Might help me be a bit more organised.

Right, off to do the ironing first because I cant move anything in the utility room until thats sorted.
