  • At last I can report that I got motivated today! Didn`t attempt to re-organise kitchen stuff (gave it some thought, but that`s all) but have really blitzed upstairs & downstairs loo`s, and LR floor, & washed all rugs from those 3 areas. Shaking LR rugs before washing is a regular and most-hated chore, as I find the direction of the breeze changes according to where I stand, so I ALWAYS get covered in dog-hair!

    Note to self;

When the fire alarms are going off full steam, the kitchen is full of smoke and the smell in the house is horrendous maybe it would be a good idea next time you clean the oven to remove the wallpaper scrapper from inside the oven and then when you turn it on for half an hour to burn off any chemicals left inside then the scrapper won't melt onto your roasting pan, you won't try to rest your finger on a red hot oven shelf and give yourself a bad burn and you won't have to run round like a headless chicken trying to turn off smoke alarms open doors and windows and run the cold water on your finger to try to stop the burning pain in it

Moral of the story - don't clean your oven - humph!!

Oh Helen, hope your finger gets better soon! If it's quite a big/deep burn you should get it checked out. Housework really is bad for you, after that cautionary tale I think we should all stop doing it :p!! x

Emm well done:T sounds like you've been really really busy! Afraid I've been more like Snookey today (hope you got your boost snookey, if not, there's always tomorrow - or the next day - or next week......:o) Seems that it's as much as I can do to keep up with the dishes and the cooking. Did make a very tentative start on DS's room but it was a VERY poor effort in all honestly!

I can imagine what you mean candygirl, I LOVE trees (I'm a summer tree person, I love them green. Most people I know love them in Autumn) But I also need light, though I'm one of those people who often doesn't open the blinds:o at least you get a good trade off for losing your trees:) I'd love a garden though, that's my dream :)

Emm, I think the thing with losing money is, you're so annoyed with your own carelessness and you only have yourself to blame, that's what makes it worse for me anyway:(

Love to all, see you tomorrow xx
  • I was about to post how envious I am of your clean oven, Helen, but I read on...hope I`m not too late with this but - have you a gel icepack effort around? If your burn still hurts, take a `cold pack` to bed with you. Don`t put it next to your skin, suggest a cotton sock over hand then the icepack & something to hold it in place. It won`t reduce burn damage by now but will reduce pain & let you sleep.

Forced myself to do the dishes then wipe the cupboards, kitchen blinds screamed at me to wash them so did them, washed the floor as it was beyond grubby, wiped the kitchen window while balanced on the worktop and did a few loads of washing. Im now sitting having a coffee before bed. The thought of getting up in the morning to a dirty kitchen spurred me on as did, the thought of the outlaws turning up.
Cat my dd room looks like a a stampede of elephants has been through it. Oh took off a skirting board to fix the pipe and everything else has been pushed into the centre of the room.
  • Cat, you`re right about the Losing money thing. It`s the self-kicking that hurts!
To all who did nothing - well, why shouldn`t you sometimes!
To all who did something - however little, well done - it was something, & the rest will keep!
Poor Helen, I`ve done similar (without the injury) last time I did the hob - left a plastic handled old fishslice I`d used for scraping gunk. The smell of burnt plastic is SO nasty, too. That time I didn`t touch INSIDE the oven, I put some salt there `to absorb` fatty deposits etc (think I read it here somewhere) and it`s still there on oven bottom, a very dark brown mass that I`m still trying to ignore! Might scoop it out if my kitchen blitz mood survives my next 5-day shift pattern.

TREE topic - they are bigger than us, and CAN get out of hand, so I understand how relieved some folks must be having dealt with their tree troubles. I have a feral plum forest in the bottom half of huge garden, also 3 apple trees in nearer half, and some privet that`s more tree than hedge down one side. We still get loads of sunlight at the back, where we spend most time (front always seems shady even without trees etc.) Apple does provide some dappled shade in summer, plus apple & privet are both always very full of birds - we get Sound from the privet & Visual from the apple trees where the birdfeeders are (not very OS moneysaving, costs a bomb but won`t stop as we feel so privileged to watch). We are also very conscious that the further plum trees and some goat willow down there provide a sheltered background stage for birds whether just checking out the feeders or nesting. Also,we`re in a very windy spot, and our tree cover it seems greatly reduces the storm damage we`ve had, compared to what next-door have had - ours is bad enough at times, but their treeless domain is always worse! I may need to take Tree-action sometime, I know I really need my light too. So far...

After my post this afternoon I was SO pleased with myself, and so pleased that we`re back to `normal` again (OH not being on nights, me when I`m days off picking him up from work 8pm rather than dropping him off, and doing supper that we`ll eat together rather than packing his meal in various containers!) I was quite - by my standards - On a Roll!! Supper was same as last night, & no apologies required, it was lovely, just needed heating through and more lamb slicing. So I DID make a start in the kitchen.

Doesn`t sound much, but I totally cleared ONE SHELF. Baby steps? In this small corner of my small kitchen, I achieved more than I thought possible, actually. Shelf(4ftx1ft) Base of shelf is just eye-level, stuff on it was nearly up to ceiling, plus some stuff was hanging over the edge, shouting out for some attention but some Messies like me can procrastinate for YEARS! Then it`s like a cross between a rubbish dump & a treasure trove! I found stashes of unused teatowels/microfibre cloths/roasting bags/ baking soda wipes/sugar soap wipes/3 packs of clothespegs/2 rolls of foil/ 3 multi-packs of poundshop marigolds/ veg Stayfresh bags/binbags/rubblebags/ a confiscated waterpistol/a long-lost & most useful grater and a long-lost pyrex baking tray/2 packs of various cleaning brushes on long handles (remember buying these in Lidl ages ago then couldn`t find them...)
Also removed from SAME shelf some CARP - a dead flan tin/ several plastic lids for containers long mislaid or dumped as the lids were missing/an ancient oval enamel casserole & lid both very chipped/2 lasagne type oven dishes/3 pyrex dish lids and an old brown casserole dish.
I filled the sink with hot water & neat Stardrops, added a good squirt of Liquid Soda crystals and put all the cloths etc in first, then chucked them in the WM. Then soaked the pots I`ll keep, all came up lovely, but now have washerwomans` hands, and a clean patch on the wall behind where all this carp was, 7 shades lighter than rest of kitchen. Oh dear...
NEXT I`ll have to deal with the rail under the shelf, (BAAAD!) and the stuff that`s hanging from that rail. I rarely get these bursts. (thank God!)
