Hi Messies,
Back in sunny, but blustery MK, ideal as have three suitcases full of dirty clothes. Mexico was absolutely fantastic, just wish we could have come back one day later so that I was not surrounded by all the washing on my birthday.
Hope all are well and will catch up with you all soon x0 -
Gilly - Happy Birthday - your holiday sounds lovely
Its showery here today so not taking kids to the park, I'm re-arranging the DR instead, well I was until DD got in there and decided to start gluing bits and pieces!! I'll have to wait now
I've caught up on all the internet reading I wanted to do so thats good. I've also done a couple of washes, one dried and the other had to be rescued off the line before it got wetter than when it went out.
DH has gone to work now
I'm soooo bored
Hope you are all having a good day

Hello messies, happy birthday gilly!
Helen, I did my ironing this morning before breakfast  - only because I knew if I didn't do it then I'd never do it and end up trying to iron things before work and hating it (not to mention doing a rubbish job!) I only iron when absolutely necessary so just a few shirts/blouses really.
Today I've made some breakfast biscotti (adapted a lemon and almond biscotti recipe that was quite low fat, and added oatbran and pumpkin seeds). It's turned out very nice, I'm having it instead of cereal which for some reason I just can't face at the moment.
Enjoying every bit of my Sunday before another hectic week... have a lovely evening all, and a good week.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Still in a mess.
On the huge plus side, thanks to my rather wonderful dad, DD has a stunning oak floor. And skirting boards. And it looks fabulous. Just a bit of filling to do tonight and painting to do tomorrow. Hopefully we should be able to start moving her stuff off my bedroom floor in a couple of days.
And then I'll be tidy (she says in a confused fog of self delusion).import this0 -
We're untidy too
but yesterday we went to the home of a friend of my son and their house was a disaster! lol, when I got home I was really pleased with how "tidy" mine is - and I did a bunch of cleaning to reassure myself that it was ok, but I am in the "Oh dear" club, I'd hate some reality show to pop up at my door and want to film inside, lol

Hi messies! Didn't get the doors done but did some other things I've been putting off far too long (including disassembling our plastic chicken coop, disinfecting, putting back together and putting lovely fresh bedding in for them) - they're much happier now!
Today been out for lunch to celebrate DH's 80 year old uncle's birthday and we were just leaving when said uncle fell so DH just gone to hospital with his meds (SIL is a nurse and she took care of Uncle; but had to hang around ages in hospital before they decided to keep him in). Kids in bed sound asleep and I'm here but I really should be ironing. Hope there's something good on TV!
Hi to newbies by the way  - I've been here less than a week but everyone is so friendly.Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Good Evening
:j Lovely to see so many new people joining us :j
I have had a lovely day. Went conker hunting with my Dad and DD this morning even though it was pouring with rain and the winds were ridiculously strong. Even though we were soaked to the skin we had a lovely time splashing in puddles and kicking through the leaves!
Then I spent most of the afternoon sound asleep which was just what I needed, my DH woke me with the news he had done the dishes, laundry and that dinner was ready when I was.
Now I am just waiting on the tumble dryer to finish so I can get teh last few bits ironed for the week and then I am going to fold the towel in the bathroom :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: and relax with a good book and have an early night.
Bit nervous about tomorrow as the weather has been grim today and there is a lot worse to come, my DD even said today that she was scared to go to school tomorrow due to the stormy weather. My DD loves school and has never ever mentioned not going so fingers crossed she is fine in the morning!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Hi guys
I have another thread here on OS https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3480077 but have been directed over here for a different perspective on the problems with my Dad.
He has hoarder tendencies which have got worse since Mum died 18 months ago, my sister who lives closest says that there is 'stuff' everywhere all worktops, all chairs everywhere. Any help, suggestions would be gratefully received.
Could any other hoarders on here please be kind enough to explain to me why? I am struggling to understand why he would need to keep newspapers from years ago amongst other things - knowledge is king, so any insight would be fab!
Thanks

I think some hoarders need to feel protected by 'stuff'. Some feel exposed if they're getting rid of things.
And some just don't know how to cope with getting rid, can't keep on top of it, are scared of throwing away stuff they need or not getting the place perfect and so decide to do nothing instead.
My mother hoards food, furniture, everything. She had 5 children and had times after she was widowed when she had no money to feed them. She hasn't been in that situation since the early 1970s, but she collects more crap now than she ever did when we might potentially have needed it, as she has added3 refrigerators, 2 freezers, toys that no child gets to play with, videos, DVDs, furniture she has never dusted, furniture on top of furniture, stuff on top of furniture upon furniture, cat bowls upon the sofa, the floor, the table, everywhere.
You can't go there without itching. I can't go full stop, as I had a horrendous asthma attack every time I went - and she threatened to slap my then 13 year old DD for daring to offer to take the vacuum cleaner upstairs and do the landing (you couldn't see the yellow, brown, red and gold pattern on the carpet for car hairs - it was at least 10 years since the stairs had last been vacuumed).
The only way anything will ever be done about it is for her to be admitted into hospital for at least 3 - 4 weeks, and then the place could be gutted, cleaned and then the stuff actually worth keeping (which you can't see under all the crap) could be put back. OK, she would go completely radio rental, not having s*$* to fall over all the time or 40 years' of dustmite poo to breathe in, no nasty skin infections or the like, but it would look OK for a bit. Within a month it would look a dump again, but there wouldn't be the sheer volume of stuff to sccumulate again.
I think that sometimes it has to be like ripping a plaster off or whimpering and whining and begging for liquid paraffin and wailing and pulling one hair at a time, just ruining the whole day. After a while you realise that the easing the plaster off is prolonging the agony for everyone and you whisk it off when the wailer isn't looking. They scream and moan, but at least it's been done.
Get the stuff out and deal with the tantrum later.
But I know a lot of people will disagree with this.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Hello everyone
Well I really should be getting on with stuff. DS is at school for the first time ever but it was really good as there were no tears from him; he sat down, I gave him a kiss and said I'd see him later and he was fine. I didn't cry either on the way home - he's ready for school and will love it.
House is mess city but do you know what, I just can't be bothered. I've made the beds and sorted the washing, done a typing job and been to Mr S and put it all away but apart from that nada. Oh, scoffed a BLT sandwich and a Twirl - very nice it was too. I've just come on, so really want to snuggle up somewhere with a cup of tea and a magazine (did I mention I treated myself to a knitting magazine whilst out shopping) but will try to vacuum round.
Interesting reading about the hoarding, my DH is a prime one for that; I can't believe he hoards all he does but he is just starting to get his head around the idea that he doesn't have to keep everything. Hard work though. With him I can't push it and sling anything myself though I have been known to drop the odd magazine into the recycling box as I go past - anything else and he notices and I lose all the trust I've built up. He panics if I go near his 'stuff'. We may be moving at some point in the next year so that'll be interesting.
Rummer sounds like you had a lovely day with your Dad and DD - can't let the rain stop you can you!
Helen jelly I do the old 'if you don't get rid of stuff Father Christmas won't be able to give you any new things as there's no room' routine and, so far, it works - sort of. DD is 8 and deeply suspicious; she's waaaaay too smart
Right, best get on - maybe a bit of exercise will help my achey backsob sob sob!! Not long til I go and pick up the children from school - feels weird saying that but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
