Eek, this thread is brilliant, and heartening to see I am not the only one with a messy house!
I am starting working again next week, and I'd love to get the house sorted before then but it just seems like such an overwhelming task.
I've found the flylady (google it!) website to be really helpful - it has lots of techniques for implementing a daily routine, and also has details of something called a 'crisis clean' which basically involved putting on some music, getting fully dressed and made up (yeah, not sure about that one either!) and then getting out a timer and setting it for 15 mins. when 15 mins is up, go to another area of the house. After every 3 15 mins sessions, have a break and a cup of tea. I've found that one useful!
I also have got an A4 file and keep a diary (or I used to until I let things slip again....) - I printed out page for every day with a list of tasks and a space to tick when each one is done, and a space to add any tasks 'carried over' from the previous day. It gave me a bit of structure and I felt a huge sense of achievement on seeing how much I had done.
Good luck!0 -
ahh, i really need to stop just reading the first post then replying! Blame my poor attention span...maybe why my house is such a mess?! I see you're all familiar with the fabulous flylady already. Well, better stop procrastinating and get busy shining my sink!
Oh, and good work Candygirl!0 -

Hi all. Finally got around to putting away the holiday clothing. Have done three loads of washing and they too have been put away. Oh has cleaned the kitchen whilst I cooked the tea. Going to try and clean more of the house on Saturday. Say try because I take each day as it comes.
Rummer welcome back to the messy world a bit of mess is good, lol. Helen If I give you a kick up the bum you may end up flying over to the fly lady thread so Ill just give you a little shove.0 -
Morning Messies
A positive start for me this weekend, I have got straight up and put a laundry on. My theory is that I will not have to run about doing it on Sunday trying frantically to get ready for work.
Just about to order my shopping online to take that chore away tooTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Up and dressed; DH doing us a nice fry up (rare treat!), kids arguing and I'm trying to get them to get dressed - never easy! Doing odds and ends this morning (including DH putting up some new doors in here
) and we're going to the zoo this afternoon.
Am determined to take photos of stuff to go on ebay - am sick and tired of tripping over stuff I keep meaning to sell!
Have a good day everyone.Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Morning all
Kicks up the bum greatly appreciated and there'll be no talk of me moving to Flylady, in order to follow their lists I'd have to demolish the house and start again!!!
I got the hoovering done yesterday and cut the grass, poo picked and then did nowt again so today I'm going to sort out the stairs cupboard and this may take most of the day as its the pits in there - a dumping hole for EVERYTHING
Have a nice day everyone and for those in Scotland I hope you manage to hammer everything down in readiness for Mondays storm coming your way
