Helen unforunately it looks like it is starting here tonight - passed groups of people and police riot vans on the way home from work

For goodness sake - have these idiots got nothing better to do! Its a very sickening and sorry state that we live in!!

((Hugs)) to people affected by the riots.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • Natlie - congratulations, welcome back, and welcome little Kobe to the world.
Re the `riots`, commiserations to those affected or afeared - but it seems more like a lot of opportunist thieving & looting & vandalism to me. So many youngsters, according to news reports I`ve heard. No doubt egged on by their peers AND a more sinister `organised` element of older troublemakers with an agenda!

    To business, now...
My Home IS a Right MESS! (hence I take comfort reading here especially when CBA or underwhelmed by it, here it is acceptable to confess, commiserate, and find a bit of inspiration from fellow Messies!)
TONIGHT, for the first time in 30 years, I am alone in the house except for my old dog (so not lonely, have a loved one to talk to) and DS`s daft cat. DS is away with his beloved all week, OH taken off at midday by his sis to visit elderly relatives other end of the country, back by weekend. And DGD (12) will be here from tomorrow. So, I`m really making the most of it tonight...
Was up at 6am, work from 7.30am till 9pm, got home knackered 9.15, took off shoes then fussed & fed the animals.
OH phoned 9.25, nice sloppy chat & glass of wine, then fed the washing machine,(uniforms first) sorted next load & put last night`s pots to soak.

Welcome little Kobe, thoughts with those in areas of unrest.
Young lad came around today and worked like a Trojan to de-weed my flower bed and frontage. He's got the gig for the back garden too, he's done a good job. He also decorates, woo-hoo! He's doing joinery at college and is cash-strapped whilst waiting for term to start.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • Back again-
Have done 3 loads of washing & hung it all over people-free house (looks like a Chinese Laundry now!)
Blitzed kitchen surfaces & washed/put away pots. SCRUBBED chopping block, now looks healthy!
Rewarded myself x 2 with glass of wine and Iplayer Archers catch-up( 2 fifteen minute breaks)
Had another phone call -DS - amazed I sounded so cheerful so feels ok about staying away till after the weekend - OH & I will have weekend to ourselves, lovely. In a (temporarily!) tidy-ish house!!!
    THEN
Took old dog a short walk - daft cat followed us! Fed cat -again!
Cleaned hearth & mantelpiece, shook cotton rugs outside & put them in car ready for launderette tomorrow - too heavy for home WM, but dry at home.
Swept a huge pile of dust-buffalos (much bigger than bunnies) Too late to hoover with noisy Henry.

Now waiting for my (frozen) SF Chicken portions to cook (I`m the only one who likes them so bought `em in specially) typing here with another glass of wine, and one of my Gilbert & Sullivan CDs on - rarely play this, my Menfolk hate it and I don`t like earphones. Also am singing along with bits, as I type!

Finally, I shall doss on the settee tonight, with a Poirot on I player to send me off.

Thank you gilly - it's been horrible looking at how others are suffering on TV - how mindless idiots can spread their poison so quickly amazes me. :( On the way home last night I saw a group of about 20 lads hanging about the local parade of shops - so when I got home I rang the new 101 non emergency police number and reported them - can't be too careful! They looked suspicious in that they were all wearing hoodies/baseball caps/woollen hats - in bright warm sunshine!

But then last night after dinner I felt restless so doggy had an extra walk round the village - and we saw another group of similarly dressed lads, saying where they were going and what they would be doing - so another call to 101 - I wasn't taking any chances! On both occasions the police were very grateful, hopefully it prevented any more trouble - I will find out later when I drive to work.

Not looking forward to tonight - doggy has to go to vets, she had half of her upper jaw removed 5 months ago due to a cancerous tumour - at the weekend I found a lump in her neck/chest area - dreading the vets visit, he will doubtless want to remove it, poor thing has had so much pulling about in the last few months, we've only had her a year, she's 6 now (a rescue). I'd be devastated if anything happened to her, but I'm not feeling confident.

Oh well, got a whole day at work first! Hope everyone escaped the aggro last night and has a good day - I will post back later!

  • Morning Everyone - I've been lurking on this thread for a while and finally got the password reminder so that I could post - been a while. I hope that everyone who has been in the troubled spots has been safe overnight and all is well.
I just wanted to say that you have all inspired me - my home was (still is in parts) a complete tip. No excuse of having to battle a condition like some of you (you have made me ashamed of myself) - just put my finger on the CBA button and kept it there!!
Well, I've cleared four rooms (won't say how many bin bag rolls - yes complete rolls) and suddenly life is feeling a great deal better - much more in control.
I'm ebaying anything that is suitable and stands still long enough (dogs are looking a little concerned) and got in someone who 'likes doing car boot sales' from the small ads - I'm sure I was ripped off, but she gave me £40 for loads of stuff that was simply lying around. I'm off the charity shop with car loads of china tea sets today and then we can finally start to decorate. Thanks to the Shabby chic thread my younger daughter is going to get a 'new' bedroom suite that is far better quality than we could afford and almost exactly like the picture she showed me.
So a huge thank you - the house feels brighter and better, cleaning it is not so difficult as much of the clutter is gone and we feel much more in control of ourselves - the changing mind set is probably the most important achievement and you all inspired us to do it.
Thanks to this fantastic site and it's amazing people, we have paid over £63, 000 off - just over half way!!!
    :T THANK YOU:T
  • Good Afternoon fellow messies.

I haven't posted in ages but I've been catching up now and again, congrats to Natalie on baby Kobe.

Its a very wet day here and I'm having a cba day. My friend and her 2 kids were round this morning so I had done a bit of tiding up b4 they came. Although there was toys everywhere when they left. My house is getting a bit better as I've done a few wee bits and bobs when my DD has had days out with her grandparents. DD goes back to nursery next week after 6 weeks off and I'm going to try to get more done during the morning while she is there.
No dinner to make tonight as we go to my mums on a wednesday. Going to take DD to the shops b4 hand, she needs new ballet stuff and one of the dance shops is doing a discount for her dance school. No doubt she will want to show off her new stuff to her grandparents tonight.
I love MSE freebies and comps. Thanks posters

Another CBA day from me. Looks like I'm going to lose dream job- been given time to 'improve' before I'm out. I don't honestly think anything will change, so even though I will try my hardest, I'm applying for other jobs. So, laptop in front of me, dog asleep with head on my leg, job hunting. God I hate this..thought I'd found my forever job. Hey ho.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time

I have spent the day cleaning today. Whole of upstairs has had a major clean, including a deep clean of the new bathroom - scrubbing paint bits off windows
Have done 6 (!!) loads of washing.
Kids have had first bath in their new bathroom and are now off to bed.

Need to do some ironing now, then bath and bed.

Will be tackling downstairs tomorrow, washing DS bedding, would also like to get kids car seat covers washed as they are grubby. Also have a playdate for the kiddies so will be working around that.

I am working through room by room and decluttering into an enormous cardboard box as I clean. I am planning a carboot with my sister on Sunday so hope to get rid of lots then. Will need to spend some time on Friday eve / Sat morning sorting it all out as I have been piling stuff up for a couple of months and I can't even remember what's in it!!

Also need to organise a courier for an ebay sale :j

Think I will find a bottle of wine to declutter whilst the iron warms up ;)
