Oh, what a start to the week.

My daughter lost her smartphone yesterday. Police, shopping centre, bus company...nobody has handed it in. And the contract still has six months to run.

But today I bagged a bargain on Ebay...just enough brand new, still-boxed oak flooring to do my daughter's bedroom. This was prompted by Plumber No 4 (who turned up to do a quote last Friday) telling me we'd have to rip up her floor to lay the cables to bring the airing cupboard electrics up to spec. Or have a cable along the wall...not happening. Since her carpet is (a) older than she is and (b) covered in eyeliner it seemed like the perfect excuse for an upgrade.

So I set off to get the flooring, and managed to get half a mile before I smelled burning. I stopped the car, popped the bonnet and had an inelegant sniff of the engine, got back into the car and realised the smell was stronger inside than out. So I drove straight to my mechanic, who, after a distinctly weird scene in which we were both sniffing the engine, diagnosed a dodgy alternator. He can't get the part for a couple of days, and we're going on holiday on Wednesday, so he sent me somewhere else, who, after more engine-sniffing couldn't promise anything but will do his best. And hasn't called yet.

So, we need a smartphone, a new alternator and if the car isn't ready, taxis to and from the airport. Financially, we've had better days :o On the plus side, the lovely man selling me the flooring is quite happy to hold it for a fortnight. But...that's my three...right??????

DD is in London - trying to get home from work but struggling to get to Euston so have google maps online and left her a message to call in case she has to walk to station from Bond Street - these rioters are such ****** - insert whatever word you feel is appropriate - the forum police won't let me put mine :mad::mad:

I've spent the morning ironing - soooo boring but needs must!!

Does it really need doing? Are you sure:rotfl:

Any how two more shelves and one kitchen cabinet sorted out. And brought more supplies in. Oops.

If you have home and bargains close by and you use the blue and white cloths they have approx 50 for 99p. I counted the packets I bought (two :o)one had 44 and the 47. But they are huge and can be cut down. Will keep quiet about how much I spent:o

    Yours

Sigh...I had a moan to a friend and she said "Oak flooring? I've got some of that in the garage you could have had!"

So even my good luck today turns out bad!!! Is it too early to go to bed yet? :o

    Hiya thanks everyone

His name is Kobe - we are working on middle name, he weighed 7lb 8 oz which is small for our family he looks tiny!

I am fine, I feel much better than after I had Laila I don't feel tired really and not as sore and am walking about fine too. I had a bit of a stay in hospital after the birth this time, with Laila I was home 8 hours after the birth which was too soon I think.

Its nice to be home now eating food - that doesn't smell, look or taste funny lol and it was nice to sleep in my own bed last night.

I will sort out a photo now!
    thanks

Kobe - lovely name and a good weight too, good to here you are doing ok

Today I have stripped the wallpaper in DD's room so next job is to sand the walls, gloss, paint 2 walls and paper 2 walls, luckily she has had a good declutter in there so it has been fairly easy to move stuff around - so far so good.

The rest of the house is a bloomin tip though!!

    Have a good day everyone

    Congratulations Natlie - lovely name!

Hope everyone is bearing up during these 'disturbances' - the local chavvery decided it was our turn last nught and broke a few windows in the shops, wrecked the kiddy layground nearby, turfed up some drain covers, usual sort of thing - and decided to key our new car (well it's new to us!)

Will cost £250 to have both panels resprayed, it's not the first time this has happened - I am now really determined to move out of London and further into Essex next year. It was on the radar anyway, but this has just strengthened my resolve! Weekends will now be spent decorating and renovating to make sure it sells quickly. I have other stuff going on too, I am not a happy bunny at the moment - but hopefully things should be resolved soon.

Not got much housework done other than the essentials, hope everyone stays safe!

    Stay safe everyone!
