Tried the decluttering threads and flylady but find them a bit too intense.
I fight a constant battle with the ironing mountain.

The flylady tips do work but on a clutter-free house, if you see what I mean. :)

And the ironing mountain! Harder to climb than Mount Everest :p

I want to get on top of the laundry this week, even if this is all I do. I am fed up of having 4 or 5 black bags full of dirty clothes/sheets/etc
  • Hello all and thanks for your motivation.

I have followed this thread from the beginning and yesterday I sat down and made a list, room by room, of each thing that I needed to do in it. This made it seem a much smaller task. I only completed three things on the list last night, but as I crossed them off I felt such a sense of achievement. Tonight I may only be able to complete one task but at least I will know I am going in the right direction.

    Thanks again
    Me, DH, DS10 and DS6

    .

A little tip re the ironing. The last few years i never iron appart from the real nessessaties, if you wash the clothes and straight away either put the on the washing line or clothes airer, give them a good shake 1st and i find the creases fall out of the majority of things and don't need ironing as long as folded and put away nicely or hung up.

My iron comes out VERY rarley and only for things like blouses, smart trousers. I think i have only ironed items about 6 times in the last few years saving me HOURS in ironing time :D:rotfl:. Try it, it REALLY does work.

So far in between work and during lunchtime I have done the following:
Cleared papers off my desk. Filed away or shredded unwanted items.
Looked through the papers on the table - lots of shredding. Football programmes taken upstairs and sons paperwork taken to his room.
Just need my DH to check his papers now to see whether they can be shredded.
Found 3 handbags in cupboard which needed to go upstairs.
Took shoes from downstairs cupboard to spare room shoe rack.
    Put away yesterdays ironing.
Thanks for the tip about not ironing - rigsby1967. Will tackle what I have and give it a try.
Also chucked lots of old stuff away out of bathroom/basket on dressing table. They were old products which I`ve had for years and needed to go.
    Feeling much more positive.

When I moved here 17 years ago, I swore never to iron again, threw out the (broken) ironing board, kept the iron just in case, to be used on a blanket on the table if necessary. Hm, maybe once every two or three years?

I don't iron the guest linen - the pillows plump out any creases, and the quilt covers have a satin throw over them - so it all looks neat and tidy and rather pretty. When I replace the linen, I'm going to go for M&S no-iron cotton.

Another tip - don't buy ordinary cotton or linen shirts, skirts etc unless you REALLY have to for work. The best thing is knitted material - like t shirts, polo shirts, anything NOT woven. I've even got a linen mix summer dress (M&S) which doesn't need ironing. That surprised me, pleasantly.

I used to have a HUGE pile of ironing, now none. Meanwhile, back to the hoovering - guests due later this afternoon. Now if anyone's got a get rid of hoovering idea .....

I was thinking about noughts and crosses on the tiles as you suggested purpleclutterbuck, but no one else would play.

I have partially decluttered the wardrobe this morning by getting dressed and ironed the grass by lying on it:D...........I'm just clutching at straws now to try and get out of saying that I've really been a lazy g1t.:o

Well done everyone else, I feel positively ashamed.

:o After posting earlier I was inspired to have at some of the clutter on the tabletop and the spuds are now in the kitchen and a few other things which aren't deliberately left out as aide memoires have been put away properly.

Could you use scrap paper and a pen to make a list to check instead of having the actual things? E.g. use potaoes for dinner not pasta?

    or a mini whiteboard?

Re ironing - DON'T DO IT!! I truly cannot remember the last time I ironed anything. In fact, I did actually lose my iron for several months last year, then came acros it in a cupboard where it shouldn't have been................... As said before, give your clothes a good shake before putting on the line/clothes horse and when dry fold very neatly or hang on hangers. The majority of creases will have dropped out/been flattened before you put the clothes on and body heat deals with the rest. When I was working and ironing came up in conversation my colleagues did not believe me when I told them I did not iron anything so that proves it works!

Right, I am going to see BIL in hospital tonight, and am going to start doing stuff at 6pm, which will give me around half an hour to do some work before I go. The lan is to get my kitchen back together as a rather large bomb went off in there last night :o
