My home is a mess

Usually I am a list person but I can't face making lists as that would be too overwhelming in this case.
Same as meNow that my kitchen is really tidy, making a "cleaning list", doesn't put me off at all
But if I had to make a list of everything that's left to do (in the messy lounge for example)........:eek::eek:

My home has been a mess for over forty years. I don't suppose it will ever change now, but these days I find I worry about it less!If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?0

Could you use scrap paper and a pen to make a list to check instead of having the actual things? E.g. use potaoes for dinner not pasta?
or a mini whiteboard? That would be far the more sensible option, I agree, but I have a major problem with lists and notes; my home is drowning under them! They are in layers several deep on most surfaces and I have no room for a whiteboard or a blackboard.
I'm an Olympic-standard Procrastinator and although I'm trying to improve, it sometimes takes the visual irritation of having something right under my nose to force me to get around to it.
The spuds are a bit of a special case in that they are the last of my home grown lottie ones from last year and need to be eaten up before they sprout, hence keeping them under my nose so I use them and not the rice or pasta. However, I have now decanted them into a bowl on the kitchen counter which looks slightly less irrational should a visitor who isn't already a friend drop around.
One of my best mates, a lovely lady, is always apologising for her untidy home. It doesn't bother me at all; I come to see her not her housework. I always remind her that I'm not her mother.....:rotfl:
I shall be away from home for the Easter weekend so no work will be done at all but after that, some stuff which is bagged and en route to someone else should leave me......hurrah!

Thank god I am not the only bird! Got up at 5.30 for work and have already straightened the living room!
Off to get dressed and ready for work.
Enjoy your weekend Grey.0 -
Hello all
Tried the tip regarding the ironing yesterday and everything that I washed except 1 pair of trousers is now hung up or folded without being ironed. The trousers need the hem sewing back up and a quick iron should sort them out. Thanks for that.
Everything else in the pile and basket (out of sight in the spare room) will get a quick iron.
Didn`t manage the hall, stairs and landing yesterday but hopefully today. There`s lots of dust and cat hair around.
Bathroom partially cleaned. Need to wipe unit, windowsill, clean windows and the floor today. Will leave the dreaded tiles and grouting to DH.
Also shower curtain looks a bit manky. Have a new on in the airing cupboard will change that.
Will have another round up of the shoes lying around and put them away.
Have a great day everyone am already looking forward to the 4 day break off work.0 -
I am at home today, I had planned on spending the day with my sister while her husband has his op, but it has been postponed, so instead of chillaxing, I am going to get the upstairs sorted out. I am a bit terrified, TBH, but it needs doing, so I need to just get my head down and get on with it. DS1 needs his own room, and I promised him it would be done for Easter. That should be enough incentive, shouldn't it? I will be back and forward to the charity shop and dump hopefully, and will be car booting this weekend with the rest of it. I may do Ebay too if I can get around to it. Hello Plymouth57. thanks for asking for the link. Thought I would post it here as several peeps have asked for it.
http://www.messies.com/get_started/
have a read, and if you want to, sign up for the emails..... I love the emails especially the bits where people tell you how they have put the ideas into action. Unlike other web sites you do not get showered with emails at most you get two a day. The other thing I like is you do not have to buy anything. I have been a member for ages and as yet have not bought a single book or paid any money, .....very moneysaving :rotfl:
Anyway hope some of you find something that works for you as the ideas are really working for me. BTW really love this thread !0 -
Woke up having a 'well day' so thought I'd make the most of it. Cleaned the kitchen and washed up the big pans that have sat accusingly on the draining board since yesterday. Cleared out the fridge and threw away a few bits (getting less each week).
Put up a washing line and now have some laundry hanging out and am looking for places to put further lines so that I can get everything out to dry at once.
Put bread dough on (I make the dough in my breadmaker and then bake in my silicone bread tin when I do dinner). Have decided to make cupcakes having bought the baking magazine with the free silicone cupcake cases (only 99p so I bought 2 and have 12 cases). Planning to do crustless quiche for dinner to use up mushrooms.
Will let you know how the cupcakes go as I'm far better at savoury dishes than baking cakes.0 -
Well I am off for 11 days so I am planning on the big jobs, clearing the kitchen cupboards, the freezer and more charity shop stuff so I am taking the evening off and not worrying about it!0

:hello:Just caught up with all the posts
Messies and Co are here to encourage rather than make you feel guilty! When will peeps realize that it's not a crime to not have an immaculate house
Extremely Messy you have been found guilty of the crime of not ironing your husband's left sock and of not wiping the computer keyboard for the last 2 days -how do you plead?
I sentence you to a bar of chocolate and a cup of tea:rotfl:
( mmm.....slurp very tasty.....)
praps a dose of procrastination as well for good measure!!
Its nice to read how well everyone is doing but its also nice to see that we all have setbacks and the odd off day!
I have just made chicken casserole and spag bol so this holiday will be a break for a couple of nights and I will try to clear another corner tomorrow after painting the old toe nails
Mind you I do quick wipe the washbasin and cooker most days now and am sitting on all the pillow cases and tea towels to f-l-a-t-t-en them!
Enjoy life, stop worrying and do what you can when you feel like it xMay you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without:cool:0
