I must admit I am tempted to put a list on every door in the house of what needs doing in that room - then ticking them off. OH would think I was a nutter though!!0

If it works for you: do it!!!!Who cares if your OH thinks you're a nutter?
My husband KNOWS I'm a nutter, and he married me nonetheless!
I didn't even have to threaten him

OH is being quite good at the moment - he is not the most domesticated and I find that I am having to say: I have done x,y,z will you please do a,b,c.
I dont often like the quality of whta he does but if I critise he wont do it so it done half assed is better than not being done at all.
MIL gave my 50 mags today - glad to have them but dont like having the extra clutter.
I have decided I need a shredder.
Also we have a tom cat that keeps coming into our house when I have the door open to air it and let our 3 out. He has sprayed somewhere and I dont know where but the smell is awful - have been around on my hands and knees and cant find it and after 2 mins of sniffing it seems everywhere - any ideas how to find it?0 -
This thread has really motivated me to 'take the baby steps' that are needed to get my house sorted out. It looks like something out of Kim and Aggie but since starting to read this I have got the kitchen looking tidier, clean round wash basin and toilet when I clean my teeth, take at least one thing, preferably more out of the bedroom to throw away each time I go in there. I can see a difference and am feeling really proud of myself. I have long term illness/disabilities like so many on here and it all seems so overwhelming, but now it is looking a bit more positive. Oh, and I signed up to the organiser lady too. Not looked at today's though yet.Second purse £101/100

Well done Esther - it seems that little and often is working for a lot of people here.
I have my dishes in soaking and in the next commercial break I shall wash them and then the one after that I will dry and put away.
I will then fold all the clean clothes while watching tv and then put them away at bed time.0 -
Livalot - can you please send me the link for organiser lady - i keep getting the chargeable version of the pdf book - I'm meeting myself coming backwards as I've so much clutter and nowhere to store anything (beauty of new build houses eh!!)
Thanks x0 -
Need to ring the council tomorrow as I've realised that I won't have a bin collection for the next 2 Fridays unless they have laid on extra round on a Saturday. Really don't fancy bags of rubbish hanging around for 3 weeks in this heat
Am collecting bags to take to the tip next time I am that way - compared to 2 years ago there are far fewer, so I must be winning. Having my elderly parents living with us for many years took so much of my energy (in addition to a full time job and family) that I've spent 2 years just trying to cut down clutter, never mind decorating.
Did manage to get the kitchen looking reasonable, and DD is out to dinner for the next 2 nights so just OH and I to cook for.
Am trying to get to grips with lists but find them to constricting, so will continue to go with the flow most of the time and perhaps just use lists where I need to plan something specific.
Feel much better having made contact with others who are not domestic goddesses:):) and feel positive each time I put something in the bin/recycling/compost bin.

Think the link you are looking for is http://messies.com/ which is home of the organiser lady. I joined after seeing it on one of the declutter threads and have just subscribed to the daily emails.

We never have guests as even when clean the house is tatty and looks very scabby in places.
Thanks to you and everyone on this thread for being so honest, I feel such a failure living in a perpetual pigsty, really nice to know i'm not the only one :T0 -
I don't watch television so don't have commercial breaks, and I do spend too long on MSE and survey sites but I keep jumping up to go and do a little something. I like the idea of not setting goals as this way everything that I do is a bonus. Usually I am a list person but I can't face making lists as that would be too overwhelming in this case.Second purse £101/100
