Parsnip - hello, how are you and the little one, lots of baby steps hun

EJBG - hello and welcome, take a room at a time and in that room pick one thing to do or try what others do and thats the commercial break challenge [do something in the breaks] or set yourself a time limit ie 15 mins and see what you can get done in that time - don't forget that it took a while for it to get messy and it will take a while to get straight again - don't expect too much from yourself and remember to share what you have or haven't done - we're all here to support each other - Good luck

Well I haven't done the dreaded drawer yet!!

I have discussed with DD about decorating her room soon so thats all decided - just need to clear all her carp and start stripping the horrid wallpaper thats on there - yet more bloomin work to do

    Hi :hello:

    Can I join please?

I've just spent ages reading this thread, perhaps I should've done some cleaning instead? :rotfl: Was very interesting though :D I am quite lazy, don't mind admitting that, i'd much rather be sat reading a book than doing housework any day of the week. I have a bad back/leg as well though which is a pain, on the rare days i'm motivated, it does hold me back quite a bit. I can't do any heavy lifting and bending down is a killer so it does get in the way.

Thanks Jackie for the tips about getting rid of plates, cultery etc. to reduce washing up! I don't know why i've never thought of this. My husband is a pain for using loads of glasses rather than rinsing them out.

I'm going to do the same with the towels, we've got about 20 bath towels and there are just two of us! I'm going to just keep three large ones and maybe five small ones. The others are either going to be taken to a charity shop, binned or packed up if they're ones we can take on holiday with us.

My main problem is the washing, I let is build up, then I have a blitz of it all and then it sits upstairs in the spare room and is never put away! I HATE putting washing away, I don't even know why! I don't do the "ironing" - we each iron what we need as and when. I'd rather have my toenails removed than do a bucket load of ironing :rotfl: I think i'll have a clear out of clothes too, get rid of all the extra underwear, socks and my husbands football shirts!

I keep the living room quite tidy but that's easy I suppose, quick tidy, polish and hoover and it's done. Haven't washed the windows in a good looooong while though :o

The kitchen is blitzed whenever I have a cake order due (I run my own business from home) but if I don't have orders on, I tend to let the washing up build up, it gets really cluttered and again windows haven't been washed in god knows how long.

Upstairs is a real mess though, bathroom is always really untidy and not cleaned enough (urgh!) The back bedroom is a complete tip, clothes and bags of things that we're supposed to be selling at a table top sale/car boot but never get round to. Our bedroom is pretty messy too. :o

Today I have had a good tidy of the kitchen and sorted out under the stairs so yay me :j I sorted the cupboards/fridge/freezer out to put away a huge shop too. :)
 Think happy & you'll be happy

Welcome everyone new and old. Iv cleaned the kitchen, loaded the washing machine and dishwasher. Two main meals prepared one bolog and one cottage pie. Oh can just add pasta to the bolog for Thursdays tea.
Not done much else as I didnt sleep last night mind going ten to the dozen dont know why. The medication could not knock me out. I guess Iv been a bit manic ,bi polar as I am. Anyway onwards and upwards.
Hayley I hate putting washing away and sorting it Ejb hang a plastic bag in each room and as you go along put anything thats to go put in it. Works a treat. Also the three box ,one for things to keep, one to throw and one to give away.
Parsnip welcome back and dont do too much you should be resting as much as possible.

Just about getting ready for my governor's meeting at the school - not much chance of getting anything done tonight. But I'm plotting about tomorrow - am I going mad, to be thinking of what I can throw away?! :rotfl:

It's so satisfying seeing a nice row of bin bags for the dustmen, or charity shop, or tip........think I need help!

I used to have this problem even after my kids left home and there was only my own stuff. But I found a tip on Flylady (the web site, not the thread here) that made things so much easier.

Once the washing was dry, I used to fold it all up and carry it upstairs to my room, but it was a huge pile and very daunting because it took ages to put away - hanging the skirts, trousers, dresses, etc. on hangers and hanging them up and putting the rest away in drawers - so it just got left, sometimes for weeks. In fact, the top of my dressing table where the pile was became my main wardrobe. :o

The tip was fairly simple. Anything that gets put on a hanger gets put on it as it's taken from the dryer (and I started putting most things on hangers, eg. my good t-shirts (tatty painting/gardening t-shirts still go in a pile on a shelf).

Then I carry all the hangers upstairs and because they're already on hangers it's fairly easy and quick to hang them up. Then I come down and take up the pile of folded stuff. This is now a very small pile - basically just underwear and pillowcases - and because it's small it's fairly easy to just put it all away straightaway.

Result. No more clean laundry piles.
  • I think I need to join in here as well :D

Our house swings from 'explosion in a jumble sale' to 'tidy, but only because I'm obsessively picking up after people & screeching a lot' ... I need to find a balance.

At the moment we're in an 'explosion in a jumble sale' phase - our house has been on the market & we recently sold, so it *has* been tidy for quite a while, and now it's swung back the other way:(

I'm looking for ways to encourage everyone else in the house to contribute in some way. Part of the problem is that there are six of us & we've kind of out-grown the house (new house soon :D) but most of it is that I am the only one who (mostly) picks up after herself.

So - I'm bookmarking this & am going to sit and read through properly when I get the chance :)

Got back from the meeting and cleared out our DVD/CD cupboard - got a whole pile of stuff to charity shop/bin! And I thought I wouldn't get anything done tonight - every little helps as they say, and it's a bit less to do tomorrow as well.

  • Well today I recreuited DD2 to earn her pocketmoney as a result I could list ebay and the hoovering was done and washing was pegged out, we ironed the last of the stuff and put it all away, but will descend back into chaos tomorrow as its a night at the school purchasing new uniform and probably a chippy tea to boot! Oh we need a rota of cleaning and stuff. everyone needs micromanaging and doesnt know what to do or where to start!! I shall have to pop washer on at random times too, because there will be a massive pile if we dont get it sorted on a daily basis!
    Trying to shift that debt!

Hi, I'm back from holiday but haven't had time to catch up with the thread. Don't know how I will as it is now nearly two weeks since I read it.

The house is back to being a complete tip and the good that I had established of keeping on top of the washing up, clearing the kitchen tops etc has now been forgotten. The living room looks like a bombs hit it. I haven't got any time or motivation to get it sorted. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. Hope everyone else is doing okay. God bless. Esther
