  • Grousescot, I hope I didn`t offend you with my post the other day, it`s just that odours can sometimes be medical clues. I`m sure my house (and me, in my old togs!) sometimes smells quite `doggy` to outsiders, but my old Daftie-dog is definitely the source...it doesn`t help that I feed her half a tin of pilchards every day, her breath and f@rts are quite minging even though her joints and coat have improved!

Not at all. I'd much rather know if the source is me so I can go and do something about it than carry on in blissful ignorance.

I've finally decided to do something about the little scurrying visitor who appears to have taken up residence in my loft over Christmas. Put a trap up there a few days ago and so far nothing (I was kind of glad as the thought of disposing of a small dead mammal makes me feel rather queasy). A sonic deterrent is on its way now which will hopefully persuade said visitor to seek lodgings elsewhere. I wish I knew what had attracted them - I've been living here almost a decade and never had an issue before now.
  • Morning all!!

Emm - your meals always sound so delicious!

Yorkshirelass - Hope the rug is clean now & ds1 is better?

Last night i stepped down as chair of governors at my daughters primary school!! I've been on the govs for a VERY long time and would like to be 'just a parent' for the last year and a half that my daughter has left. I have enjoyed doing it but i have plenty of other things to do!
I've just swept the kitchen floor, it really needs a good mop but i'm too scared in case i hurt my back again, i need to invest in a mop with a longer handle i think then i don't have to bend so much!
Swimming tonight so i'm going to make shepherds pie for supper, mr farmer puts it into the oven so it's ready when we get home.
When i got home yesterday i discovered 10 dead geese in the garage! Our friend shoots the geese on the marshes (i know not everybody agrees with this!) and often drops a couple off for us, not sure what to do with ten!! Usually i just take the breast meat off and freeze it, then make casseroles with it as it's just like beef when cooked. There's no way i'll be wasting them - free food!!

    Have a good day everybody!

Free food is always good J but I couldn't do it.
I'm really sqeamish with things like that and can't eat meat if I think too much about it previously being alive.
When I go to the fish counter I have to stand so they can't "see" me or I'd never eat that either :rotfl:

Doggy is doing fine now but sleeps more and wants to sit right up to me, as soon as I touch the laptop she puts her nose under my hand and lifts it so it's round her.
I'm sort of decluttering by using up all the small balls of wool I have to make blanket squares and hats for charity, I'm aiming for 100 of each and already have a bit more room in the wardrobe, plus it's something I can do with a dog on my knee.

    Morning,

The sun has finally come out so I'm happy. The window cleaner has been so for once I'm not peering through sand encrusted glass. I've been continuing with the chipping away at small tasks this week so everywhere is starting to look ok. I need to do a bit of work in the living area today, there will be some laundry to hang up and a few bits and pieces to put away but it feels like I've made progress this week .

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Hi Messies!

Grousescot, we had `evidence of mice` some years ago and a couple of sonic plug-in thingies worked. Nothing at all since then.

FW - I don`t blame you stepping down, you`ve done your stint, so just enjoy being a `normal` parent now. I did a few years as sec. on juniors PTA, and these things can be quite time-consuming.
Not sure about that many geese, it seems a lot... to shoot at once, as well as to accommodate! Still, free food not to be sneezed at. OH & I have become very partial to venison steaks lately, and although DS & DGD say we`re `eating Bambi` I don`t have a problem with the ethics - venison has probably come from animals that have had a better life than most farmed animals, and deer numbers have to be managed...

Dibuzz, sounds like Doggy`s getting a bit spoiled there, but hey, why not! Re the fish thing, I don`t like stuff `looking at me` either - especially prawns etc. Yeuch!
I want to thank you for setting me off again with knitting! Yes, it was you who planted the seed with your Minions... I`ve not touched any knitting for about 15 years, but I`ve now got started with knitting myself a waistcoat. I found some of my old wool stash the other day, and was also thinking about trying to cut down smoking. Doing something that keeps my hands occupied felt rathyer better than going down the e-cig route like my DS is doing. So, Thankyou Dibuzz!

I'm glad you're getting back into knitting Emm it's a bit like riding a bike.
I can't do too much in one go or my hands sieze up but alternating kniting wth crocheting helps and I feel like I'm doing something useful with the hats and squares as I have nobody really to knit for.

  • Dibuzz when my lot were small most of what they wore was knitted or sewn by me. I still have a few bits of my old fabric stash that I`ve not parted with! Never got on well with crochet though, maybe cos I`m left-handed? Took ages to even learn to knit r.handed, but I was only young then! If it was plain knitting I used to not swop the needles, just kept going from r. to l. then l. to r....
  • Morning everyone

Thanks FW, yes the rug is fine - there is a very faint mark but it gets all sorts trampled over it so no-one is going to notice. DS1 is up and down, I need to chase up this psychological assessment he is supposed to be having.

Like you I keep thinking about getting rid of one of my voluntary jobs - I have done it for nearly 5 years and dont really enjoy it any more. I dont really have time to do it and I keep thinking its time to hand it over to someone else.

Oh and you lot are clever. I am hopeless at knitting, sewing or anything crafty. I have a door curtain that has been sitting folded up on the stairs for about 3 months because it needs shortening. Maybe I should make that my challenge for the weekend.

Going out for tea tonight with some friends we havent seen for ages. Really looking forward to that and its a restaurant DS1 likes and feels OK in so fingers crossed nothing will throw him into a panic.

Lots of paid stuff to do today and I need some food shopping so its going to be busy. Going to get some brekkie and get a shower soon.

After grumbling a lot that OH doesnt do enough to help I have started leaving him notes on a morning giving him tasks to do if he gets time before work. He said he was really pleased because he feels like he is helping and if he has a specific job to do he will do it. The notes have to be very specific though!

Have a good Friday all x

    Enjoy your tea out *yum*

I've cleaned the pantry this morning, that's all. Yesterday I printed some wrapping paper for DH's birthday present and today I'm looking into the finer details of building a blanket fort, it's what he wants for his birthday, it'll have to be fairly robust so the buns don't destroy it. Should be fun.

Hope you all find something good to do this weekend.

I've just tried to do that and ended up tied in knots :rotfl:
My eldest son is left handed but does a lot things the right handed way.
I didn't have the time to knit or crochet much when they were small and now they are grown up they dont want things.
My Grandson's mum didn't appreciate the things I made for him, the blankets (both of which took weeks to make) were just screwed up in a plastic bag and dumped at her gran's when I helped them move house so even if I still saw them I wouldn't be making anything for the new baby. I'd rather make things for strangers who will be grateful to receive them.

Eldest son has put a bit of weight on and now only has 3 pairs of pants for work so I'm having to keep up with his washing. He's always been underweight though so it's no bad thing. It was a nightmare a few years ago trying to find school pants with a 26" waist and 34" inside leg. I think we will have to go shopping at weekend.

I haven't used my bedroom for 2 and a half weeks but doggy is fully mobile again now so I'm going to change the bed and give the room a good clean so we can go back up there in a couple of days. She hasn't asked to go out in the middle of the night for the last few nights so hopefully she's settled down again.

Alec I haven't a clue what you are on about with your blanket fort and buns :o
