  • Good Morning Messies!

Laurel, I remember your epic tree-removing too - was it really a couple of years?! You did well to get any digging done at the weekend, if it`s as cold there as it is here - today our muddy parts are frozen solid. I couldn`t open the dustbin this morning as it had frozen shut!
My garden is full of weeds too, I`m just trying to encourage some more than others. I`m attempting a sort of `wilderness management` rather than what you`d call gardening. We didn`t pick a lot of the apples last year and many of them are still where they fell, half-eaten by critters, only visible now thast the grass has died down...this morning there are four blackbirds and a wood pigeon out there pecking at them.

Sonastin - if your kitchen floor gets as bad as mine it IS a thing to gloat about when you`ve cleaned it! (Only it`s only ever me that does it, then I gloat...)

YL - I`m sure you underestimate your `good parenting`, the experts are not the ones who are there 24/7.

    Today-
It`s sunny but FREEZING! I woke up and noticed the recent de-cluttering at once. Still a lot more to do. I spent a couple of hours yesterday sorting stuff, cleared a whole shelf on the landing (floor-to-ceiling shelves that serve as sort of airing cupboard.) and put some stuff there from bedroom. I now have a nice ragbag of truly wrecked bedlinen for cleaning purposes etc., a fleece and a couple of T-shirts that were claimed by DGD, and another small bag of stuff for CS. That generated a WM load which got done, dried & sorted yesterday. Then I made leek & turkey pie, and have cleaned up the aftermath this morning....

CS stuff is in the car ready to go, but car still all frozen up. I`ll drop the stuff off later then have to go to farmshop on the way back for another sack of peanuts for garden birds, and Sainsbob`s for their own-brand Littly-dog food. That means I`ll have to do a bit of tetris in caravan of Doom first, to accommodate.
Having a rest from Turkey tonight - defrosting some fish!!

Have a nice Monday everyone. x

Yorkshire Lass Im in agreement with Emm proffs dont always have the answers and your a better parent than you think.
Iv been cleaning the kitchen, livingroom, hall and bathroom. All scrubbed.
sonastin you know why men gloat over housework its because its still a novelty for most of them. My other half lists his chores bit by bit as if he is doing me a favour, lol.
Hope nobody minded my post regarding the freebies site its just that it proving to be a great help to so many people. We have people who come on for advice or other help and due to it being a community site there is always someone who can help even if its just finding information for them.
  • Thanks for your replies and advice - it is much appreciated. I'll be sure to pick up some bicarb of soda next time I'm shopping. Yesterday afternoon I had all the windows open with the doors ajar to get some fresh air circulating as it wasn't too cold outside. I also found a de-humidifier I must have got (or been given) ages ago, one of those with crystals in a bag. It's now sitting in the hall space where I put the clothes dryer so we'll see how that goes as it's supposed to last for several months. I am guilty of leaving clothes hanging up for a couple of days so I guess that can't help and I just need not to be so lazy and deal with them as soon as they're dry.
Shirts get put on hangers and everything else goes on the dryer.

I don't know if it makes any difference but I don't have carpet - it's all laminate floor (which could do with a sweep and mop if I'm totally honest).

I really do hope it's not me that's the source of the smell! I don't eat a lot of garlic and most of my working day is spent inside in the office so no exposure to anything sulphorous, If everything else fails I will have to consider that possibility however.

Hope everyone else here is getting on OK with their own endeavours.

Sorry I've not been here for a few days I've been reading but not posting.
Doggy is doing ok, she had her stitches out today. The vet was lovely and ended up practically lying on the table just to get at them with me trying to hold onto dog and her tail which kept whipping the poor vet in the face.
We just need to keep an eye on her now but she alternates between sleeping for England and thinking she is a puppy so must be quite comfortable. I'm still sleeping downstairs with her because she asks to go out 2 or 3 times in the night and it's easier.
As for the house, I'm just keeping up with washing and a bit of clearing up.
There is a table with books on at the vets, they just ask for a donation for guide dogs for the blind so I took a few down today that I have read.
I hate parting with books but need to get rid of some and its a good cause.

Glad to hear your doggie is doing ok dibuzz.

I'm still working on the small stuff, sorting out cupboards, tidying my bedside cabinet etc. I've been focusing on three things in the house - ironing, cleaning the kitchen floor and reducing the amount of hay everywhere. I've put a new hanging basket onto the front of the bunny pen so they can eat from that rather than putting the hay on the floor. It hasn't eliminated the mess but hay stays mainly on their rug now and not all over the floor.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Afternoon messies,

Well yesterday the chilli made 17 meals, so have stocked up the fridge and freezer so have plenty of food for weeks now. Did the cleaning in the kitchen yesterday.

This morning have washed bedding and bathroom mats and towels. Washed the bathroom and kitchen floor. So have actually now have the bathroom and kitchen clean and tidy.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
  • Hi Messies!

Snookey, that freebies site sounds an excellent way to donate stuff direct to those who will use it, and anything that really helps folks these days has to be a good thing! Who`d mind!?

Grousescot, I hope I didn`t offend you with my post the other day, it`s just that odours can sometimes be medical clues. I`m sure my house (and me, in my old togs!) sometimes smells quite `doggy` to outsiders, but my old Daftie-dog is definitely the source...it doesn`t help that I feed her half a tin of pilchards every day, her breath and f@rts are quite minging even though her joints and coat have improved!

Dibuzz, glad to hear from you again, I was starting to wonder how you were. I`m glad the dog is ok, you`re right she must be comfortable if she`s sleeping soundly and acting puppyish when she`s awake. ((HUGS)) to you both.

Kayester & Alec E - well done, it is a nice feeling when you get things done as you planned. I seldom get it, but it`s nice when I do!

    Messy Status Report-
Kitchen - Just the basics (floor is excluded!)
LR- Henried the dust-buffaloes, quick clear-up of all flat surfaces.
Hall/stairs/landing - Henried! Hall carpet completely clear now, bit of clothes clutter on banister though.
Bedroom - Henried, and a bit more clutter sorted & removed.
Laundry - I`m pretty sure there`s nothing in the house now that needs washing, though that`ll soon change....

I`ve thawed a piece of pork loin to roast later, veg is going in steamer and I`ll make `cheat`s gravy`. I`ve realised that some days I spend so much time faffing and food-prepping that I don`t get the other stuff done that needs doing. So, on a day when I`m keeping the food simple, I`ll try to do a bit more in the rest of the house!
Have to pick up DGD from school in a bit & drop her at her mums, their car is poorly, so I`m keeping an eye on the time now. Good ecxuse to stop for another coffee break!

Emm thanks. You have been busy and by the sound of it will continue to be.
Im in one of those CBA moods today so its a good thing I got some things done yesterday.
I let the electric man in before and had to tell him to be careful in the cellar as although we got rid of a ton before Christmas the stuff they left was moved all over the place. Must sort , one day.
Its freezing here and raining so not going out .
    Take care everyone.
