Morning all!
I've done one load of washing, put the school uniforms in and now i'm baking! It's a miserable grey day here, i can't wait for spring!
Todays news about the little boy in Edinburgh is awful, what sort of a world do we live in? So sad. My youngest daughter can't understand why people do such horrible things to children.
I've got some pork shoulder defrosting to go in the slow cooker for tomorrow, not sure what to make for supper as we have my daughters friend here for a sleepover and she's a bit fussy!! eek!!
Have a good day everyone!
JxIt's a farmers life for me......:j0 -
Well the getting out of bed was not so much as a spring lamb, rather more akin to an ancient donkey... But, the face slapping has been done (not literally), and second load is in the washing machine (first load drying) and food shopping done and put away (it's the putting away bit I'm most pleased with, unless it needs to be in the fridge it can hang around in bags for days
) and it's not even 11am :j
I think another cuppa is required before I over do it0 -
Hello Messies,
Well today after a few days of guilt after doing nothing, I woke up and decided to get things done. The last things in the bathroom are now cleared and I can regard that room as back to normal. Starting in the kitchen today and will dive into the bedroom later as well. The kitchen is pretty organised but later will be preparing the slow cooker for a big chilli and so will be making a mess. Though as long as the place is clean and tidy and only the slow cooker to deal with I will be happy. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
House dreadful.
However, DS has set away the dishwasher and taken out the rubbish. I've done an hour's tidying and put the slow cooker on.
We seem to be in a situation where everything we use regularly in the kitchen and utility lives on the worktops, because the cupboards are full??? and I don't quite know how it happened, save that I'm really struggling to manage 10-11 hour work days AND the house and cooking from scratch has been a casualty.
Anyway, I made a start by emptying a shelf in a cupboard that seems to be mostly full of candles people have given me as presents. With more than a twinge of guilt, I have bagged up the candles for the charity shop. Candles mean decorating more often, and I'm too scared to think about how long it is since I had enough spare good days in a row to decorate. Anyway, I now have somewhere to put this summer's jam haul and two square feet of newly-cleared worktop. That's one step in the right direction.import this0 -
Hi Messies!
I do hope all snotty Messies are starting to feel better now - my DS has managed to get over his without passing it on to anyone else in the house, which is a first!
I`ve done nothing today apart from have a lie-in and then un-trashing kitchen, but that was a bigger thing than it sounds because last night we actually had `Christmas Dinner`!
Yes, Big Bird (6.5k) finally thawed & got roasted yesterday.
The only thing missing was pigs-in-blankets, but I did put some streaky bacon over the breast, bread sauce, giblet gravy, HM sage & onion stuffing. Must have used every pan, jug, etc., and although I did some clearing up as I went along there was lots left. Glad I used a turkey roasting bag as it`s saved a fair bit of scrubbing and kept in loads of turkey juices for more gravy tonight. I`ve taken the legs & wings off and put them in freezer this morning for future reference.
Tonight the only cooking I`m doing is bubble & squeak...so....
No shopping, no food prep today ... no excuses not to get SOMETHING done this afternoon.
Shot myself in the foot there, didn`t I?!0 -
Progress report-
I`ve done a trash-trawl and 20-minute clothes-tidying session in bedroom, cleaned upstairs loo, and cleared a whole shelf in bedroom bookshelves. (Mostly books for CS and old paperwork that doesn`t even need shredding.)
Just came down for a quick coffee break and am gobsmacked how little time it all took. Thought it was about 2.30 by now!
Drags self back upstairs to do a bit more....0 -
Good point Emm, DH's step dad had a sulphur allergy and could emit at times.0

Yep Emm you have got no excuse. Glad you enjoyed the bird though!
Doggie has got some sort of upset tummy and I came down to a lovely pressie on the utility room rug this morning. I have a horrible feeling that its going to stain which is annoying because I really like the rug. I have washed the mark in diluted washing powder and then used some stain remover but it looks like it hasnt come out. Any ideas anyone?
Laurel - be ruthless. I am slowly trying to reorganise our little office so that I can actually use it for its intended purpose instead of a dumping ground. We have the same problem, stuff piled on the floor because the big built in cupboard is full of other things!
So, I have things I really should be doing this afternoon (studying, doing OHs accounts, tackling the finances) but none of it is very appealing.
Drags self off to tackle something productive .....0 -
YL - re the rug - bio washing liquid? Or nappy stuff (do they still make stuff for terry nappies though?)
We don`t have an office-type room, but there`s a desk in the bedroom.... paperwork is not done here as it accumulates in the computer corner of LR. The desk surface has not been seen for a couple of years, it has been covered with a 3 ft mound of stuff. Mostly clothes but layers of clutter between.
Since I posted earlier, I have CLEARED it!!!
Now sitting down in a state of shock.... at one point the bed almost disappeared, but I persevered. There`s a big shopping bag of stuff for CS, a smaller bag for DGD`s mum, a WM load, and a big bag gone in bin/recycling. And a Clear Flat Surface.0
