waves to all
day off today and I have:- Emptied the rubbish from my car (one carrier bag full!)
- Did washing hokey cokey, put away/hung up my stuff and divvied up the rest between HWTHMBO & DS#1 & #2.
- Poo picked the back garden & picked up the windfall branches off the lawn
- Sorted through two charity shop bags full of hand-me-down clothes from mum's neighbours and have a nice big charity shop bag of clothes to hand on to a friend as quite a lot of it was too small for DS#1 (9).
- Decluttered two films off the Humax (and two bags of roast chicken crisps from box in kitchen.)
- Decluttered mince from freezer and last of xmas cheeses into lasagne for tea :j
- Finally moved HWTHMBO's rucksack from his chairdrobe to the cupboard where the rest of the camping stuff lives.
- unpicked DS#2's beaver badges from his jumper and took the jumper up to cubs.
- found extra t-shirt we 'inherited' from cub camp in JULY:eek: and took it back to cubs tonight.
- decluttered cheque from cheque book for cub's subs.
just in case you need to know:
HWTHMBO - He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed (gained a promotion, we got Civil Partnered Thank you Steinfeld and Keidan)
DS#1 - my twenty-five-year old son
DS#2 - my twenty -one son0 -
Today I have managed all the daily chores and the backlog so up to date with them. Now can start on the rest of the mess. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Hi messies
Dibuzz- I'm really sorry to hear about your dog, My cat managed to break his jaw whilst Oh was away. Then he tested positive for feline leukaemia, and the vet said the chance of him living through the operation to wire his jaw was really slim and even then he would need to be on tablets for the rest of his life. I hated that I had to make the decision to let him go but it was the best thing for him. It still upsets me now.
Buffy- Satsumas don't last that long in my house, the girls fight their dad for them! They would rather have fruit than chocolate (all the more for mommy)
I'm under orders from oh to rest, on Monday our bannister broke when I lent on it and I went crashing down the stairs. Cue a trip to the hospital and an overnight stay so they could make sure that baby was ok and my bp was up.
Thankfully everything is fine, I'm a bit sore and my blood pressure went back to normal.
Our housing got an earful off oh and they will be round next week to fix the bannister because it's not unsafe and we can still use the stairs without it.
My in laws are coming on Saturday, they are taking us out for a meal as its ds1's first birthday on Sunday!
Hugs for everyone that needs them: DD1 23/11/09
DD2 16/12/10

Ok, some of my mess is going to be tackled like this:
Sort through paperwork - going to stick items that belong together in separate folders/boxes so it makes some sort of sense, file important documents (insurance etc) and hopefully most of the rest can go straight into the recycling bin or be shredded (it's been hanging around that long it's probably to late to respond to anyway).
Ironing mountain  - hmm will have to think about that one but will keep on top of school uniform and work clothes on a daily basis. Trouble is DD and DS are quite happy to pull clothes out of the ironing pile to wear without being ironed and go out looking like right scruffy tuttles
Washing basket that now covers most of the landing and has started to travel downstairs of it's own accord - going to make the next few washes up of items that do not need ironing so they can be put straight away. I've explained to DD and DS that I am no longer going to put their washing away for them, I'll put it in their bedroom but then it's up to them (suspect most of it will live on the floor, but not my problem and will do away with the "Do you know where my (insert anything that comes to mind here) is?) :rotfl:
Hey ho, one day we'll be tidier (not going to go for "tidy" just yet)0 -
Hi Messies!
Mummybobble, that sounds like the plan of a realist!
Kat - thank goodness you & baby are ok after that fall! No wonder your OH gave the housing lot some earache, it must have scared him too. What IS the point of a banister that breaks if you lean on it then???
FA & Frugalsod, you`ve done loads - pls send a bit of that motivation over here...I`m lacking, despite my good news yesterday!
All I`ve done today is kitchen basics, and take some slices of pork loin out of freezer for a stir fry tonight.
Checked turkey - still frozen solid, so moved it from caravan of Doom to spare room of Doom, and unzipped picnic bag...
Went to DD`s, then Sainsbury`s on way back for petrol only (have a 9p off/litre voucher) Pumps closed till tomorrow for new pumps installation!!! Grr. Drove home on fumes, have just enought to get there again tomorrow.
Took Littly - dog out for a walk and a long play with her throwy thing.
Odered some Yellow Rattle seeds online.
Now going to cut up and marinate pork, prep veg, and put a few bits of dry laundry away, and that`s my lot till I start cooking.
Can`t see much getting done tomorrow as we have some errands in town (inc ptrol again!) then picking DGD up from school. I really will have to have a major binge here soon.....0 -
Late day today. Did not get up till 2pm but then did not go to bed till 7 am, So in the two hours I have been up I have eaten, washed up, and run through most of the days chores. Still not dived into the backlog. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Hi folks,
I'm subscribed to this thread but haven't posted for quite a while. I wondered if anyone could offer some advice about a rather embarrassing matter which I suspect may be common to those in my demographic, i.e. single 30-something man living on my own. Recently my dad has been round helping with some DIY and commented (tactfully!) that my flat smelled a bit musty (he actually said it reminded him of garlic!). He said that he'd often detected the same smell coming from me when we meet up for a beer or when I've been round to visit. I'm guessing this is because I air-dry my clothes inside (nowhere else to do this and I'd rather not use the tumble dryer all the time) and the smell transfers.
I don't notice anything myself so I am rather paranoid that I'm inflicting myself on work colleagues, etc. during the day (I work in an office). I make a point of showering, using anti-perspirant, putting on a clean shirt every day and outer layers (jumper, trousers) get changed and washed every few days.
I try to keep the place aired by opening the windows for a time although obviously in the past few weeks this hasn't really been practical. In the last couple of days I've taken to keeping a scented candle lit over the course of the evening but I can't tell if this makes any difference. It's a modern flat (less than 15 years old) so I don't think it can be issues with damp.
Does anyone have any tips on keeping the air fresh indoors without spraying chemicals everywhere? Also on checking if things are getting musty without someone else having to tell you!

Bicarbonate of soda makes a great deodoriser. Just shake onto the carpet and vacuum up after a break. Clear vinegar is a good cleaner and has a different smell and can be used to get rid of greasy stains and smells. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
