YORKSHIRELASS Try vinegar put on the stain and scrub then dab and so on until the stain is out, or try Alcohol 99% pure ISOPROPANOL and do the same.
Emm you have done loads well done. Iv bought more storage boxes today big and small ready to tackle the spare room I just need someof yourmotivation to rub off on me Emm.
  • Well done Emm, what a sense of achievement. I have also made progress in clearing some paperwork today but not on that sort of scale.

Thanks Snookey, have gently scrubbed the stain with some vinegar and it seems to be working. I read a tip about putting a few layers of kitchen roll on the damp patch and then putting a heavy book on top. The idea is that you swap the paper regularly and it draws any remaining dirty water out of the rug so I have also been doing this. Just hope we dont have any more incidents, he seems to be better, fingers crossed.

So, finances are sorted, OHs accounts are nearly finished. Not sure what the plan is for tomorrow - must do some course work!
  • Good Morning Messies!

YL, I`m glad the dog & the rug seem to be recovering. Pity you couldn`t just chuck the whole thing in WM though. (the rug, not the dog!!)

Snookey, I`ve had umpteen goes with storage boxes over the years, failed spectacularly as they turned into `out of sight/out of mind` stacks of clutter, and occasionally got riffled through when looking for a particular item - creating even more chaos. I didn`t LABEL the contents though. Ha! I`ve since done a bit better with those folding storage crates, you can at least peer through the little holes....no, I didn`t label those crates either....

I woke up early this morning, sat up and looked at my clear desk surface...so this has inspired me to try to do something about the rest of the bedroom. As someone said on here recently, it`s the last place you see at night and the first thing you see in the morning. I do really like that room, it`s all yellow & orange, curtains never closed as it`s at the back & the sun comes in early - like today - and I wake up to this `enhanced` yellowness. I see the yellowness, but not the clutter, and there`s still quite a lot.
I`m going to have to sort it all out but THEN keep on top of it.
So that a regular half-hour blitz will maintain things.
    This is the hard bit.
I know it IS possible because I`ve pretty much done this with the LR (not counting rug-washing & floor-mopping) and that has meant growling at others as well as myself!

So far today I`ve done kitchen - pots, tops, sink - and got a WM load now ready to hang and another to go in. It`s Turkey (AGAIN!) tonight, either pie or curry (not asking OH as he`ll say curry automatically!) so not much cooking, again no excuse. I`ll start with Henrying bedroom as I`ve washed the (yellow) bedside rugs and got them dry last night.

    Have a nice Sunday all.x

Drags self away to empty & refill WM.....

    Owwwwwwwwwwwwww.

By way of avoiding the housework, I had a quick side trip to the garden centre yesterday. Two of them. Ahem. :o

Anyway, it's past the end of bulb season, and bulbs are massively reduced...some even free! :j

So the plan was to get the snowdrops underground this morning...they're most urgent as those planted at the proper time are already in flower. And I just went on from there. The big job I'm really pleased with is that I've got my two Aldi pear trees from three years back into the ground. I had them planted in big pots (about 30 inches high by 18 in diameter), but they weren't very happy. I'm not saying they were potbound, but in the end I lowered the pots onto their sides, braced my foot against the pot and heaved the trees out using a hoe as a lever. I was glad that worked, because the next step would have been to lie on the floor with *both* feet braced against the pots, and that really wouldn't have been very dignified.:rotfl:

But anyway, if you'd asked me this morning whether I could physically cope with all I've done today, I would have said no.:) But I've managed to keep going, one spadeful of earth at a time. So a good day, with lots of stuff done and planted that will make me happy later when it blooms.

Yorkshire Lass-if all else fails, sunlight was always a very effective remover of baby poo stains. If we ever have any sunshine again, obviously.;)

Had a good day today. I've cleared a lot of the nick nacks from DH's dressing room so it's far less fussy. I've moved some furniture around in the main bedroom, so now I can use my nice Kartell lamp, rather than just look at it and all my clothes are in the same part of the room. Small things but feels like a large amount of progress.

Chilli made and ready to get started in the slow cooker. The mincer and all the rest of the preparation stuff has been washed. wiped up and put away. Now preparing to bake a loaf of bread tomorrow morning so will be measuring up for that but leaving it till morning before actually starting.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
  • Laurel, was it you who undertook some sort of major pulling-out-trees type job in your garden last year? And if so, have you got big plans again this year? My memory is rubbish so sorry if I am wrong. I am just a bit jealous because my garden is a disaster and we somehow lack the time to get it sorted.

Anyhow after a nice relaxing Sunday DS1 went into meltdown tonight over nothing. Luckily a a major trauma was averted in the end but more by luck then good parenting I think. All the advice from the psychologist goes out of the window when he gets in such a state.

I am making progress in the house bit by bit and finally catching up with the paperwork that had got so behind. Doggie is still under the weather but I put lots of newspaper down last night and the rug was safe. I wish I could put the rug in the machine but its too big sadly. I cant even roll it up until he is better without moving furniture as it nearly fills the room.

And yeah Emms, you are right. A little every day really does get things done. Not aways as easy as that but still ..

Off to tackle some more of the never ending laundry mountain (are there really only 4 of us in this house) and get things ready for morning.

It was a couple of years ago, Yorkshire Lass, but you're quite correct. :)

Alas, the garden is doing its best to fill itself with weeds, and I lost a lot of unestablished plants in the drought last year...I was quite ill over the spring and summer and I just couldn't manage to water them every day. But the trees are thriving, the bones of the garden are there, and I'll get there...one day. Looking forward to getting home in daylight...a little every day, as Emms says.

Cleared the dry clothes from the upstairs bannister by taking one item each time I passed. Hung up another wash. Slow cooker simmering a sundried tomato and chipotle paste to freeze in ice cube trays and use as needed. (Somebody gave me a big bag of sundried tomatoes that needed using up).

Dishwasher seems to be working properly...no longer leaving grit over everything. Ran a hot wash with nothing in, flushed out the trap under the sink and ran it half full. At least we have clean plates again!

Why is it when the menfolk contribute to the regular chores, they need to be congratulated as though they'd conquered everest? :rotfl:OH took it upon himself to mop the kitchen floor this afternoon and he's still gloating about it now. Despite the fact that I've managed to drop stuff all over it again making dinner :D

We've jointly had quite a productive day - spent most of the morning stacking wood into the wood store in the hope it might start to dry before we run out of our free heating supply. That meant we could tidy the corner of the garden where the wet wood was living. Which led OH to clean the windows (outside) while I got on with sorting laundry. Which showed up the dirt on the inside of the windows so OH had a go at cleaning that off too - although once the sun was gone, it was too hard to tell whether he succeeded!

I had great intentions to batch cook some pasta & sauce for my lunches this week but it's too late for that now. I guess I can have boring sandwiches tomorrow and try for something more exciting tomorrow evening :)
  • Morning all!!

Today I will hoover all downstairs and mop kitchen floor. I also need to bake and do some washing.

    Have a good day everybody!
