  • Hi Messies!

Gilly - I thought I`d been daft getting cream/off-white rugs for LR, but as they`re washable and have washed really well (and often!) it was a really good choice after all. Well done on your steamy binge there!

Becky Boo, welcome! At least you`ve been keeping on top of your `bare minimum` stuff. I`m not a fan of big lists, but I do like the 20-minute Timer to nibble away at bigger tasks. Let us know how you`re getting on and we`ll cheer you on!
As JPS says, Messyness is an ongoing thing for some of us here, sort of 3 steps forward then 2 steps back.....

YL - I`m sure your DS`s outing was fine, hope you`re reassured now. You only fret because you care, nowt wrong with that!

JPS - Our sparrows aren`t fussy! They used to just stick to the mixed seed feeder, but as there are ever more of them they go on all the other feeders too, plus gleaning whatever gets spilled on the ground.
I`m thinking about `wild` planting too. Charlock did really well here last year, and I`m thinking of trying some Yellow Rattle which I`ve heard a lot about. And I`ve got Poppy seeds.
I`m thinking of my bee-hotel hatchlings, as they come out early and the nasturtiums & marigolds are a lot later. Not sure when to start, and where I`ll fit it in between radiotherapy trips (for which I don`t have dates yet!)

Sonastin, what a lovely way to change your hairstyle! A young colleague of mine did that last year - then went and had a sponsored head-shave as well, and liked her new look so much she`s kept it really ultra-short (but she does have the pixie features to get away with it!)

    Messy Status Report-

Kitchen - Sink, pots/pans/ worktops blitzed this morning, had to `twas a state after leaving DS to put his curry & rice out....
Stairs & Hall - much less cluttered, still a bit more to go.
LR - had to do a rug change/wash this morning, dear old Daftie-dog had done a little wee.... DGD`s school stuff is covering sofa but is ready for when her mum comes to collect her later.
Upstairs - I`ve sorted out my potato stash in spare room of Doom, nearly all still usable and now have 3 black fabric shopping bags washed & put in car for future use. Also had a rummage up there for sticky hooks and have hung a pen & calendar/planner beside computer in LR. (Not bad, I`ve been meaning to do that for the last 3 years!!)
Have a nice afternoon all. x

Oooh home made Baileys, I could taste test it for you if you like.
I already have a queue for that role. My mum says it is nicer than the branded stuff. That might be a mum being polite, but a new bottle is always welcome so cannot be that bad.

My dad provided the original recipe but it was a messy process, so many spoons of this or that. So after a bit of experimentation I worked out a solution that used an entire can of condensed milk at a time and was so much easier. The only problem was draining the can into the blender meant occasionally it fell in to the blender as well. My current trick is to put a jam funnel in the top of the blender and drop the opened can into that and allow it to drain. That way I can leave it to drain and not worry about it falling in.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome :)
I've made a good start - the living room is now presentable, which is quite amazing! And I'm very proud of myself as I have actually sorted out my mountains of paperwork. Post in this house tends to lay on the side for a while then get "tidied" to the bottom coffee table shelf and then when that gets full it will all get "tidied" to a drawer - so the fact that I've actually sorted and filed it all is quite an achievement!!

I have also made a start at going through my wardrobe and overspill floordrobe - I have now thrown away 2 huge bin bags of old clothes plus one for the charity shop and I'm only half way through!!

I've still got ALOT to do but really feel like I've broken the back of it and I think by keeping on top if it and doing a little everyday should get me there.

This post has been really helpful as whenever I would lose motivation I'd read a page or 2 and then crack on... So thank you fellow messies! Let's hope it continues.... :T

Edited to add: Homemade Baileys sounds DELICIOUS!! Looking up recipes now...
  • Oooh Sonastin thats brave, how are you getting on, are you loving the new hairdo? I am trying to grow mine out a bit after going very very short last summer - which was fine for a while but very limiting in terms of being able to do anything with it.

DS2 was fine yesterday of course. I was annoyed that on an afternoon when I should have been enjoying some peace and quiet I couldnt stop thinking about him! I did manage to get some paperwork done though so thats good.

Well done Becky-Boo. I have also reduced the paperwork mountain this weekend and its such a good feeling. I have asked if I can send my employers some of the older files that I have here for them to store so that will free up some much needed space. With my work from home job, OH and I both doing voluntary work from home and OH having his own business we have a lot of paperwork!

Aww, just been interrupted in the middle of posting this by DS2 coming to find me for a cuddle. Thankfully he is not too old for this yet.

Right, off to get things ship-shape for morning.
  • Been absent from this for a while as been so busy at work over xmas.
Had this week off, and am glad to say have been very productive!

Have sold 9 things on ebay (one of which was a joblot of 6 things)
Have a bag full of bits ready for charity shop.
Lots still to do, but feeling very motivated

  • Hello Becky! Glad you are finding inspiration from everyone on here, such a lovely bunch, they've really helped me when things are bad!

Not quite light here yet, it's weirdly warm outside, i had to take my woolly hat off whilst feeding the calves earlier. Today i'm going to do the ironing, make two shepherds pies (one to sell) and hopefully bake some biscuits/cake as the tins are empty AGAIN!

I mopped the kitchen floor yesterday and have hurt my back :( that's proof that i'm obviously not built for housework!! ;)

    Have a good day everyone!!

I feel like giving up. I fee like ive taken one step forward and three steps back. Not doing well with my diet, and really regretting the pizza I just ate!!
House is bad, ive hoovered round every room today but every room needs a deep clean.
Attic- toys EVERYWHERE again!!! It needs a good sort and not safe for kids to play in there at minute, ive literally shoved everything to one side of the room in order to hoover what I can.
I just cant bare to start in there right now so ive closed the door.
Bathroom needs a good clean, ive hoovered in there today and going to attempt to deep clean and sort out old/unused toiletries tomorrow.
Kids bedroom- looks tidy on the offset but then you open the drawers and wardrobe and everything falls out, which is a task in itself! Need to sort out what doesnt fit any more and iron the rest!!
My bedroom, im not even gunna go there.....i really should do something there though as its last thing I see at night and first thing in the morning. My get up and go was last seen in there a long time ago!!!
Kitchen is poor, pots get done a few times a day but cupboards need a good sort and its going to take ages.
Dining room is ok as there nothing in there apart from a table.
Room isnt too bad, just kids things dotted about.
School run soon so wont be doing anything else today (i kind of give up when it gets dark!!)

  • Hi Messies!

Well done to anyone who has got something done...however much or little.
Kayester, don`t give up hun, we all know the feeling. I`d say that your `dining room is ok as there`s nothing in there but a table` is quite an achievement in itself!!! If I had an empty table (or any other flat surface) here, I`d be fighting to keep it from getting covered in stuff, and as for an almost empty room - stuff would get dumped in it `just for now`...
Don`t beat yourself up that you feel you haven`t done wonders - it`ll only make you reach for more pizza!
OK, to do EVERYTHING you`d like to get done might take ages, but a 20-minute blitz in a little corner still only takes 20 minutes, and a few of those sessions add up. Once you`ve got a patch done as you want it you get a boost of motivation from it, just don`t try to demand too much of yourself at one go.

    Today -
I had a couple of errands this morning, and a visit I`d put off for ages, so not much done here. Called in Aldi on my way home and....SEVERELY fell off the "use up freezer" Wagon!
I bought a large frozen turkey (£15) It`s sitting in a picnic bag in fridge-like caravan of Doom, and I`m carefully planning to use stuff till it`s thawed & cooked. Got some cooked pork shoulder to use tonight with leeky mash & cauli, and I`m sure there`s room in freezers now to accommodate some cooked turkey when the time comes... well, we didn`t have turkey for Christmas.
I have also, at long last, slopped some colour on my hair. OK, it hasn`t made the house look better, but at least I`m a bit easier on the eye now! Might even motivate me a bit now ....

Hi everyone. Iv just spent the best part of three hours in the kitchen cleaning and sorting. Had a pile or should say a mountain of clean laundry to put away. All folded and put in bin bags on the landing ready to sort.
Iv still got a mountain of stuff to wash due to the back log from not having a machine for six weeks.

Tea prepared sausage cass with roast potatoes.

OH not too well has taken two days worth of tablets by mistake . Some of them being morphine so out for the count all day Sunday and today.

Im going to try and plod on this week with one room at a time. Give them all a deep clean.
Confession our Xmas tree is still up but because its in the front room its out of site. Must take it down.

Feel like the housework is a mountain that Im struggling to climb .

kayester, it happens like that, don't give in to the feeling of overwhelm. If you need to wedge the door shut and walk away for a bit that's fine. Some things will always be there, day to day mess, toys etc, but the other stuff, just keep doing a bit and when you've dealt with it you'll never have to deal with it again.

I haven't done much today. Had a productive day yesterday though and DH washed, dried and put away the dishes this morning, so nice to walk into the kitchen and see the lack of stuff.

    Hope everyone's ok.
