My mum has just been signed up
She should write immediately to them telling them she is cancelling under the 14 day cooling off period that the Ministry of Justice requires them to provide under the Conduct of Authorised Persons rules 2007.
Make sure you put "cc Ministry of Justice" at the bottom and e-mail it to consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk.
Also get proof of posting, free from the post office, and hang on to it in case of a dispute later.0 -
So are they crooks? If it is a case of them taking 25% then Iknow she would just go with them for the lack of hassle factor and they are signed up.
I am also concerned as the company appears to return recorded letters of cancellation "not known at this address".
If they are a bona fida company I will let her go with it but if there is even a sniff of corruption then I will try to pull her out.
She has already got shirty about it all because she just doesnt want the trouble of going through the cancellation and likes the bloke!!! He is a bloody salesman, it's his job. It doesnt help that I live 200 miles from her so cant just nib round and sort her out.
It would be handy if someone actually had first hand experience of them.0 -
You only need to download the form here, fill it in, keep a copy and post it to whoever you are complaining to. Get proof of posting (free from the Post Office). If you do not get a satisfactory response within 9 weeks (the 8 weeks they have to respond plus a further week to allow for postage) send a copy of the form (keeping another for yourself) to
Financial Ombudsman Service

Um but convincing the parents not to do this? She has already been in floods of tears this morning and her husband is just refusing to budge and wants to proceed.
Do you have a wall handy on which I can smash my head to pieces please??!0 -

Parents!!.
Tell them they will do the paperwork either way,why pay a %, to then do the work yourself? the claims co just take a % of the win plus vat,and do very little,it is money for old rope, and some use the form that magpiecottage gave the link to.0 -
Done all that. Christ, why they didnt come to me first I have no idea. I have worked in finance all my life and my mum knows I frequent here too. As far as her husband is concerned they have signed up and they will not cancel. Mum however, knows I am talking sense. I think what has happened is they dont want to look foolish. She is now worried to the point of not sleeping.
The only thing I can do now is to let them get on with it and then deal with the aftermath, if there is one. Christ, they could have paid me 25% + VAT!!0 -

All you can hope for is,if they win redress that is not a lot, this will be less of a % for the claims co to take.
Maybe they will change their minds within the 14 days cooling off period? you can but hope.
Let us know the outcome please.0 -
Will do. It seems they they didnt want the hassle of doing it themselves (er that is why she has a daughter) and they hadn't even thought about it until this firm showed up. Mum did everything she was meant to, checking them out on the internet and asking where they got their details from, etc but just didn't push it far enough.
I don't think they are concerned about the % taken to be honest. I just want to make sure they don't end up owing any money or that this company just don't do what they say they will. WCUG have said that it should take about 8 weeks so will update around that time.
Thanks for the advice and I think mum has had a bit of a wake up call. It could have been much much worse.0 -
Hi all
I need some urgent advice please. My mum has just been signed up by these people to do a claim and I am concerned she is going to be ripped off. On having a quick google I am seriously concerned she is going to end up paying THEM money. She is going to read through the paperwork as I have asked her what the cooling off period is.
Has anyone actually dealt with them? the only person online who seems to have had any dealings was left with a 1450 bill plus interest!!!! Why the hell she didnt come to me I have no idea.
Thanks very much
Hi Red Lady,
Dont quote me on this, but please be aware that I think they will charge you if you cancel within the 14 days cooling off period.
As I said, dont quote me on this, but Im sure I overheard this, the other day.
Do you have their free phone number?0 -

They are not allowed to. Look here - specifically customer specific rule 15 on page 8.0
