So you're telling me that my neighbouir could fill out a V62 in my name but at their address for my car? Utter bollox!
Infact, this week I'm going to try it just to proove my point, which no one seems to be getting...
Your extreme and quite unnecessary rudeness aside, that is exactly what your neighbour can do.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Question 3 asks why dont you have V5 in your name. The three options are:• I bought the vehicle from the previous keeper or motor trader and I have not received a V5C yet.• I cannot produce it for another reason. (Give the reason below)
• It has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed.
They'd tick the bottom box and say something like "the car is reg'd in my name but at the finance companies address".
Now i'm sure DVLA will contact the finance co to ask what the hell is going on...
Also, how would my neighbour fill in question 3 if they wanted to (unlawfully) register my car at their address but in my name if they dont have the V5 to hand...?
No, they'd tick the box which says "It has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed"The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I have since spoken to the finance company, and the car is registered in my name to their address, and anything relevant that gets sent to them (road tax renewal, fines etc etc) will go to them and then be forwarded to me.harveybobbles wrote: »OMG are you thick...?!
OK, so the OP fills out a V62...
The DVLA will then write to the current reg'd keeper (which is the OP at the Finance Co address...) telling them that someone is wanting to put the car in their name/address. The finance co will open the mail (as it is in thier address and are allowed to by law) and then write back to the DVLA DECLINING the change of ownership.
Jesus...
Chill, fella and take a look at the bit of the OP's post that I highlighted. The car is already in his name, there is no change of ownership, merely the address. What goes around - comes around0 -

One more thing to add...
Do you think you'd be miffed if the DVLA allowed anyone to register a car they spotted on the street in their own name?!
I think you would and you'd also be the first to curse the DVLA for letting such a thing happen...
...which is why, when someone submits a V62 application the DVLA will write to the current reg'd keeper to let them know someone is wanting to tranasfer ownership of a vehicle and if they disagree with this application then they are to contact the DVLA.
Last time anyone sold a car on here, you will have recieved a bog standard "letter of aknowledgement" from the DVLA to say "Thankyou for letting us know you are no longer the keeper of XXXXXX...". It continues to say something like "If this isn't the case, then please contact us ASAP..."0 -

I recently moved house and filled out my new address on the doc I had in my posession...
From the DVLA website:DVLA wrote:Replacing a lost or stolen registration certificate
You’ll need to:- complete a V62 ‘Application for a Vehicle Registration Certificate (V5C)’ available for download, or from any Post Office® branch, or from a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) local office
- enclose the £25 fee
- send your completed application to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DD
From the V62 form, itselfYou should receive the V5C within:
• two weeks if you are already recorded as the registered keeper; or
• four weeks if there has been a change of keeper.
Clearly, the OP would need to be a bit naughty and declare it lost but that's another argument.

Again, you are fixating on change of keeper.
In this case there is no change of keeper, nothing has been sold, nothing is changing name. Only the address of the existing keeper is changing. What goes around - comes around0 -

.
But it hasn't been lost or stolen. The finance company have it. And I'm sure a (dis)organisation like the DVLA will be aware of little tricks like what the OP was asking.
And to quote again...Clearly, the OP would need to be a bit naughty and declare it lost but that's another argument.
Doesn't that clarify what I've been saying from the start?0 -

Yes, I understand that as I have recently moved house and changed address on my doc.
But as the OP is wanting to change the address from a FINANCE COMPANY to a private address I can't see the DVLA actioning this change without some form of contact with the finance company, can you?0
