The DVLA do not write to the previous address when they receive a V62. What would be the point of writing to the registered keeper to ask them if they have moved? They won't be there to open the letter. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

Nothing and therein lies a bit of a problem. This is why many fraudsters get away with selling cars that don't belong to them. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
but as the V5 registration documaent DOES NOT prove ownership anyway, whats the problem?
it shows the OP as the registered keeper of the car, which they are0 -
The trouble is, the insurance companies often insist that the car is registered at the keepers address, the finance company will get sent any notifications and will probably charge the OP if they have to inform them of any charges for parking or speeding etc.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

you don't get it do you...?!
If someone tries to register a car via a V62 the DVLA will write to the current reg'd keeper of the car with a "letter of aknowledgement" saying something like "thankyou for letting us know you are no longer the keeper of the car, if you didn't apply for a change of keeper details then contact us immediatly..."
Anyone who has sold a car will have one of these letters.0 -

Utter nonsense!
So you're telling me that my neighbouir could fill out a V62 in my name but at their address for my car? Utter bollox!
Infact, this week I'm going to try it just to proove my point, which no one seems to be getting...0 -
So if the OP gets a V62 to fill in...

Question 3 asks why dont you have V5 in your name. The three options are:• I bought the vehicle from the previous keeper or motor trader and I have not received a V5C yet.• I cannot produce it for another reason. (Give the reason below)
• It has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed.
They'd tick the bottom box and say something like "the car is reg'd in my name but at the finance companies address".
Now i'm sure DVLA will contact the finance co to ask what the hell is going on...
Also, how would my neighbour fill in question 3 if they wanted to (unlawfully) register my car at their address but in my name if they dont have the V5 to hand...?0 -

One would assume that, honestly or otherwise, they would tick the box saying that it was lost and, by the way, here's my new address.
This text from the form
"You should receive the V5C within:
• two weeks if you are already recorded as the registered keeper; or
• four weeks if there has been a change of keeper."
suggests that they only carry out checks following a change of keeper and, in this instance, the keeper has not changed. What goes around - comes around0 -

If you do this, please report back. I, for one, will happily eat a dose of humble pie if I'm wrong. What goes around - comes around0
