As for shops not accepting them I never had a view one way or the other until I worked as a temp over xmas at Tesco.
Cheques seem to take so much more time and I had a disater where the machine chewed up this guys cheque and had to call for assistance.

The answer to the technical problem seemed to involve one of the managers hitting the machine repeatedly until it spat it out lol :)

I got myself into trouble by getting a fit of the giggles and telling everyone inline "how very good the technical staff are a tesco".

Still makes me chuckle thinking about it.
ooh I did this to someones machine at tesco-I was with my lil sis and it was the guy she fancied serving us! hence me getting a good telling off for embarrasing her! lol:rotfl:

My freelance clients always pay me by cheque.

  • I refuse to stop using cheques as they are a real lifesaver at certain times of the month. Since last pay day (19th) I have drawn 7 of them for shopping, to send birthday money, to pay deposits for things and for a school trip and a college trip.
My opinion is that the less people use them, the sooner they will disappear from the system - not many things these days that are not automatically generated through the bank or post office. Also, when I do pay with the card the money is out by the next day - if I pay with cheque it can take up to a week - it does with Sainsburys!!

Since I switched to paying the milkman by DD, I no longer use any cheques.
