  • I only use cheques to pay my council tax now, since my bank wouldn't give me a cheque guarantee card! They gave me a cheque book though.......

I pay the council tax on the first of the month, and my wages go in by cheque on the last day of the previous month so that works out quite well for me.

  • Only use them to pay for things on eBay or for birthday presents for the young nephews not used on in a shop for years and years. I did see someone try to pay with a cheque in the Sainsburys in Woking a few months ago and the girl on the checkout looked very confused!

I've got a couple of magazine subscriptions that come through the post and I don't like writing my credit card number on the return slip and trusting that no one nicks it. It also means the subscription can't get automatically renewed on my credit card without my say so.

I use them for emergencies at the end of the month too! Although I'm on the way to better budgeting - my New Year's resolution is to set a budget, and use the money I have for the things I've set it aside for. If I don't need to use it one month - save it for when I do (not really rocket science but it's taken a while to get through!).

I pay once a month for my organic vegetable box delivery,so I give them a cheque and also the yearly central heating service as the engineer doesn't accept cards, but that is about it,I think.

A cheque book lasts me for ages,I find it easier and quicker to use a debit card for most things.

I pay for most of my ebay purchases by cheque but use my debit card or cash when I'm out.

I'm about to send a cheque for the renewal of my allotment rent ... but allotments are a bit like that - pleasingly old-fashioned!
